general problems of the 2010 Toyota Tundra

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Tundra. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21e103000 (steering). The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel made popping and grinding sounds while making turns. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that he needed to pay out-of-pocket for the diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the recall repair would only be performed if the vehicle had had the power steering gear assembly replaced since August 2021, which the vehicle had not. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000.
