36 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2011 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/03/2012

I got stopped and issued a $187. 00 violation by the police in CA as my truck parking, (amber lights) were on during driving in the daytime. This truck is wired so the amber (parking light lens) are on when the engine is running so to the police it is the same as driving with parking lights on which is illegal under CA vc 24800 and most other states. This makes my vehicle illegal to operate as well as a safety issue because people do not know if the vehicle is moving or not (the very reason for parking lights). No country in the world allows amber parking lens to be used as daylight running lights. This is a safety issue and it also makes me libel to get stopped and ticketed every time I drive this vehicle in the daytime.

37 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2001 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 02/26/2010

I own a 2001 Tundra. I just learned of 4 recalls: nhsta #09e025000, 09v444000, 06e026000, and 06e065000. We received no notification from the companies required to do so. The truck is registered. We purchased the truck new and have been the only owners. We have not changed address since the purchase. I believe the failure to be notified was deliberate to avoid the cost of compliance with the recall. I have been unable to get any of the 4 companies involved to respond to phone messages.

38 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2006 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 02/17/2010

One of my cargo lights in the rear center of the cab burnt out and I went to replace it. When I took the cover off I noticed what looked like plastic on the light bulb that was burnt out. So I took a closer look inside and I noticed above the light bulb that the plastic had melted and it was the same way over the other light bulb. Now there is a hole in the plastic above each light bulb. So after I put the cover back on I made the lights come on by opening the truck door and I felt the cover and it was very hot to the touch. I am thinking this could possible start a fire if the doors remain open to long.

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Tundra. While driving 55 mph, the rear license plate lamp caught fire without the contact's knowledge. Other drivers waved down the contact and ran him off the road due to the fire in the rear of the vehicle. The fire department stated that in less than two minutes, the fire would have reached the gas tank and resulted in the combustion of the vehicle. A police report was filed. Toyota stated that they were not responsible for the repairs and the contact would be liable. The failure mileage was 102,000 and current mileage was 103,000.

40 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2001 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/13/2003

Taillight bulbs fall out of the socket. We returned the vehicle to the dealer a coulple of times and they put the bulbs back in but didn't fix the problme that the sockets don't have enough spring tension to secure them in place. I've since blocked them in place with toothpicks to increase the tension of the sockets. Cheap fix but they should replace the sockets.
