My vehicle needs an alignment. I was told by the Toyota dealership that the frame on my vehicle is rusted and needs to be replaced. Toyota Tundras do have a recall for the rusted frame but my vehicle isn't part of this recall since its 3 months newer. I was told by the Toyota service rep at the dealership that my vehicle is unsafe to drive. I contacted Toyota and they claim that they cannot do anything about this.
I had the check engin lite checked at the Toyota dealer. The Tundra required a complete exhaust system including catalytic converters at a cost of $4000. 00. The dealer found that the frame was rusted through and notified Toyota. Toyota will pay to replace the frame. However the 2004 modle year is not part of a recall.
I started my vehicle and began to drive down the street. My truck light came on and I almost got into an accident because I lost power. I took it to repair shop and got the code of 2445. When I talked to Toyota I was told that it is a faulty air pump and 3 valves for the air operated injector system a $3500 dollar repair. I was told that moister gets into the pump which causes the pump to send insulation into the valves. This sends the vehicle into limp mode causing a loss of power. I’m lucky I was not on the interstate or it may have killed me. Toyota knows about this defect and refuses to acknowledge the problem. They changed the way it is configured in the newer models and issued a recall for those but refuse to fix the older models. This is a clear lack of safety on their part. If this was to occur on the interstate then people will get hurt. I ask you to seek out Toyota for the safety of drivers and make them recall these parts.
I was driving my 212 Tundra crewmax and when I reached a traffic light--red, I pressed the brakes and the truck started to pull up and the rpm's went high. Even when I pressed the brakes real hard it was still moving forward. I prompted to put the transmission in park and turned the engine off. Restarted it and shifted into drive, the truck pulled up real fast because the rpm's were high, but in about two or three seconds went to normal. Scared and very careful I drove it home, didn't do it anymore but I contacted my dealer's customers relations manager and he got tow it away from my home for its checkup. According to them, came up with nothing wrong with it and it is safe to drive. They said that they've hooked up a computer to it and the truck's computer did not register anything wrong or malfunction whatsoever. But it did happened. It wasn't my imagination and my concern is that it may happens again and I might not be able to control it or turn it off as I did this time. I might not be that lucky again and hurt myself or someone else. Might not be at a traffic light in red. And might even cause someone's death, or mine.
Receive p2440 and p2441 codes for secondary air injection pump failure.
The threaded cable which connects the interior door handle to the latch assembly failed, making it impossible to exit the vehicle using the interior handle. A review of online forums for this model year Toyota Tundra reveals this is a common problem. Door handle failure as a result of regular use or trauma resulting from collision could render the vehicle inescapable in the event of an emergency. The cable connecting the interior lock to the latch assembly is solid, unlike the door handle cable which is threaded. I believe the design flaw is uses of threaded cable for the door handle.
Temperature in utica, NY on Jan 15 at 10 am was -10 degrees. A 5 hour ride back home in snow, dirt, and rain I tried to operate the windshield wiper fluid on the highway 90 west. It would not work because it was frozen. After trying a couple times more, the visibility got worse with temperatures at 5 degrees. Had to pull over to clean the windshield many times until arriving to 23 degree weather. It worked when I arrived home. I also notices the exhaust pipe that seems to touch the exhaust pipe has burnt a hole in the mud flap. This had happened sometime between my trip to utica on Jan 14-15. There has been no add-on mod to the exhaust pipe and the mud-flap but are now sticking together. Is this a fire hazard?.
The rear frame and cross members are so rusty that it is causing the bed to rust from the frame up. Everywhere the bed attaches to the frame it has rusted through. Eventually the rust will be so bad that the rust around the bolt holes will no longer keep the bed attached to the frame . This is defenitely a safety issue and Toyota tells me that no recall has been issued for the beds of the rusty trucks.
Driving at highway speed, the spare tire/wheel assembly (mounted beneath the vehicle) fell without warning to the roadway below. The tire/wheel ended up in the middle of the driving lane, causing numerous vehicles following behind me to swerve to avoid it. I pulled over to confirm the wheel was from my vehicle, and this was verified. I then turned around to pick up the wheel and remove it from the highway. I found the bracket still in place in the center of the wheel, however it was severely corroded and had no structural strength left. There was no sign of the chain or cable that held the wheel and bracket to the underside of the truck. This vehicle had recently been to a Toyota dealer earlier in the year for an inspection of the frame (corrosion recall), as well as for replacement of gas tank straps (which were replaced due to corrosion issues). It had been determined that no action was needed with regards to frame corrosion. The gas tank straps were replaced. There was no comment from the Toyota dealer on any potential issues with the spare tire mounting system.
Frame recall 90m and a0f I am getting different stories from Toyota dealers and from Toyota corporate about the number of years Toyota is willing to inspect the frame and cross member and cover the cost of repair.
Gas tank straps rusted so bad that gas tank fell down.
I took my Tundra in for the gas pedal recall repair, never had any issues prior. Ever since the "fix" was performed, I have an uncontrolled lurching when pulling away from a stop.
The engine check light came on and the engine went into limp mode, which reduces engine power making it dangerous to drive. The check engine light came on from the emissions valve set failing. When repaired by dealer they also discovered a cracked manifold. This emissions valve set failure seems to be very common on 2008 Tundras and is very expensive to repair. To my surprise the manifold was cracked and that is a very expensive repair and may have contributed to the emissions valve set failure. Toyota should recall their emissions valve set and redesign it so it does not fail, and is less expensive to replace, and finally they should not program the engine to go into limp mode if this failure occurs, as it can cause you to lose power while driving in various conditions that require power to get off the road safely.
A tree branch struck the rear window of the truck, shattering the tempered glass. Shards of glass as long as 6" were thrown throughout the cab of the vehicle.

Air induction pump 2005 Toyota Tundra pump failure. Defective design.
The problem is excessive frame rust. I contacted the dealer where I bought it,I was told no recall . I contacted Toyota directly and a local dealer ira Toyota looked at it and said it was safe. Their case # 1002142135. The rust is now to the point where I have holes in the bed supports. The scale falls off in pieces as big as 4 inches by 4 inches.
At start up of the vehicle, check engine light came on as well as the traction control light. Engine was very unresponsive. Acceleration was very slow and the vehicle was only able to reach 45 mph on the freeway during rush hour traffic. Took it the the dealer who said issue was p2440, stuck valve, air induction system failure.
I purchased on 2010 Tundra double cab 4x4 with a 5. 7 v-8 engine on August 1, 2010. On several occasions my 2010 Tundra has shut down while being driven. The first serious safety problem occurred on 08/26/2010 (1,097 miles) while being driven about 10-15 mph. The check engine light came on and the 4x4 lo and rsca lights were flashing while power was lost/reduced to engine/tranmission. On 8/27/2010, the selling dealer checked the connections after receiving codes c1201 and p060a and claimed the vehicle was fixed. The second time was on 09/26/2010 (2,312 miles) I was driving 55-60 mph when the lights came on as before and I lost/reduced power to the engine/transmission almost causing an accident. This time the a local dealer verified that code p060a returned and claimed the cause was a bad ecm processor. They replaced the ecm processor claiming the vehicle was fixed. The third time was on October 31, 2010, (2,480 miles) the vehicle was parked and being warmed up when the check engine light came on. I drove the vehicle then to see if it had the same problem with power loss to the engine. Again there was reduced power to the engine/transmission. Notified Toyota who had the vehicle towed in and they recovered code p1614. This time the dealer claimed the problem was the r&r air assembly stating this was the cause of the problem, replaced it and claimed they had fixed the problem. Toyota corporation and my local dealership both have been informed of this serious safety problem with the engine shutting down while driving. On 11/9/2010, the arbitration the board related that "there have not been an unreasonable number of repairs for the same nonconformity. " therefore, they denied my claim for a new vehicle. An engine shutting down/reduced power to the engine causing loss of control over the vehicle to me is a very serious safety problem.
I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra and it has a problem that when the car gets hot the engine will stall out and die without warning. It creates no omd ii errors and the check engine light never appears. The ecm fuse blows on occasion but replacing it does not lead to a running vehicle. It fails to start until the engine compartment cools down. There is fire from the spark plugs and there is fuel pressure in the fuel rail. We have replaced all the relays and fuses in the ecm and efi circuits and all fingers are now pointing to the ecm controller itself. We just changed out the fuel pump and are looking at replacement of all the ignition coils (8) and all the fuel injectors (8). But since all of these components seam to be working that would make little since. The recent recall for the ecm on the matrix & corolla indicate that there may have been problems with the manufacture of ecm units for a much longer period of time since my Tundra is exhibiting the same problem. This problem has been getting worse for over 5 years now and the Toyota dealers and other Toyota specialty shops cannot find the problem since there are no engine codes and the fact that it will start and run fine after it cools down. I have been waiting for it to die and not start at all to hope to find the problem.
On Saturday, March 13, 2010 around 4:30 to 5:00pm, my wife [xxx] exited NW 5th court from i95 to NW [xxx] miami, florida. As she was approaching the stop sign on [xxx] , she commenced to press the brakes. To her demise, after pushing the brake pedal to stop, the vehicle, a 2007 Toyota Tundra crew cab did not stop, instead, automatically increased speed to over 20 mph. She was forced to make a left turn on 71st street to avoid an accident or from crashing until a 1990 to 1994 green Ford explorer going at speeds well over 50 mph on NW 5th court coming from the east to west, rammed/crashed into the front passenger side of the Toyota Tundra as my wife was making the left trying to evade traffic and make the Tundra stop. His Ford explorer completely totaled the Tundra. I then arrived at the scene to find my wife with serious injuries and took her to the er. I was so glad to see she was alive and was able to carefully transport her to the hospital. If someone would have crashed into the driver side or a front end collision occurred, my wife would definitely have not survived. I feel, god was on her side that day and gave her a second chance at life. The man in the green Ford explorer could have slowed down and stopped, but did not. Maybe, if he didnt crash into the Tundra the way he did, my wife would not have survived. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I have read the recalls for Toyota Tundras 2003 models which doesn't reflect in my area where I reside, guam. Does these recalls also pertain to guam, since the island is surrounded by salt air and salt water? if it does, how do I go about in fixing or remeding the situation? thank you.
Toyota recall. I bought my 2010 Toyota Tundra in oct. Of 2009 and still have not received any information from Toyota about the recall. I have learned through the web my Toyota is in fact recalled for two different problem but have yet to hear anything official.
2006 Toyota Tundra. , low speed ,no cruise control on ,weather drizzle. Going up a hill acclerated suddenly . Spun out crossed a median into oncoming traffic hit a guardrail and another car.
The steel fitting in the radiators to transmission cooler rusted off, dumping antifreeze and transmission fluid on the road, in doing so antifreeze got into the transmission and transmission fluid got into the engine. Cost of repairs $1150. Next the rear axle housing rusted a hole in. Cost of repairs $1900. Next front exhaust pipes with converters are rusted out a leaking exhaust. Toyota has a recall for rust on this truck but doesn't cover these problems that are dangerous.
Heat/a. C/ventilation system allows rodents to enter from engine compartment into the ductwork inside the vehicle meaning all air consumed by occupants is laced with rodent feces/excrement which is unhealthful for occupants to breathe and in some conditions will lead to death via antivirus.
2009 Toyota Tundra, 5 mos after purchase(5-16-09),my drive shaft replaced, while driving will not change gears will accelerate by itself as if the cruise control is on which is caused the odometer to read incorrectly,(reading 44,000 miles) & use excessive amount of fuel . Several fluid leaks, muffler replaced, transmission will not shift properly when accelerating & when I come to a complete stop it take time before is shift into stop, & electrical problems. Engine light comes on, ticking noise & vibration in the motor. These have codes coming up. My truck need to be replaced because this is causing more problems for the future. One problem leads to another. I was told by ron carter Toyota that I am being unreasonable for wanting my truck fixed right & not to bring it back to there dealer or they will call the police on me for wanting my vehicle replaced because I know I have been deceived & solded a lemon. I was told by the former service manager (now fired) bill crichton that I could look on the Toyota web site & look for the TSB (Toyota service bulletin) to find the info about Tundra's , I have not found that info yet. Please help I am paying for something that is not operating properly or safely. This is my only means of transportation & all I want is a new vehicle with no problems. Thank you.
Extensive rust is located on the frame of the truck. This 2004 Toyota Tundra was built on the Toyota tacoma frames before Toyota made the larger Tundra and frames. It's therefore likely that the same extensive rust recall for the previous years tacoma's should extend to the Tundra's that were once built on these frames. Since the delivery date on this truck is December 31, 2003, it is believed that this vehicle should also be recalled under the same premise. The pictures from the recalled tacoma frames look very, very similar and there should be a check on whether or not this 2004 Toyota Tundra frame has the same exact problem.
I purchased my 2008 Tundra in March of 2008. After have the truck for 30 days, I noticed scratches in the paint. I took my truck down to the dealer, and they wanted me to pay $700 to put simoniz on my paint. I was not going to pay if there was a paint problem with my 2008 Tundra. Every time I washed my truck more and more scratches started showing up. I started waxing the paint to remove them, but they keep appearing. I contacted Toyota, and they said to take it to the service manager. I took it to the service manager and he said he could not do anything until the Toyota rep looked at it. I waited until the rep was in town, and I took it to him. The Toyota rep said he could see that my paint was scratching but he did not see that it was a warranty item. He said since the paint is not bubbling, peeling or falling off that it is not a warranty item. Plus he said since my paint is scratching from an external source that Toyota would not warranty it. They would not get a professional to look at it, and would not allow an independent paint professional to look at it. They said I could take it to whomever I wanted but they would not accept whatever they found. Toyota has a paint problem, but they will not do anything about it. I am not alone. . . We have started a petition on line, but it really will not have any affect unless someone bigger gets involved. . Read more...
I understand there have been the 2007 Toyota Tundra has had a number of recalls for rear propeller shaft, front ball joints, brakes, seat belts, and tailgates. I can't find the 2007 Toyota model Tundra listed in your database. This has been reported on the news, newspaper, and various internet sites thank you steve ohman.
2000 Toyota Tundra has poor body paint. The paint on the hood and on the side of truck is losing color and paint is chipping off.
I just sent the following email to Toyota. I hope that NHTSA can follow up as this is very concerning: I was horrified by the spanish speaking Toyota Tundra commercial I just saw. It is inconceivable that Toyota would have a commercial showing little children crawling under a car to try to get a ball out from under it. Children shlould never go under a car, whether it is moving or not. They can't tell the difference! this is absolutely shameful. Toyota should immediately pull this commercial. Please do not be responsible for the death or serious injury of a child or children who crawl under a car after seeing this commercial.
I am a child passenger safety technician. I assisted a client today with the installation of a graco "cargo" child restraint model # 8487bel edom 08/31/04. In trying to install the seat in the passenger side rear outboard location of a Toyota Tundra access cab truck, I found it essentially impossible to secure the tether (top strap). The vehicle manual is poorly illustrated and the path for threading the strap behind the seat is impossible with the typical 2 inch hook type tether. Please review the manual & check the vehicle. I eventually installed the seat in the center with great difficulty using the instructions for the center tether installation. These instructions are really unacceptable.
The antenna on the vehicle distracted the driver and on several occasions the consumer nearly had a collision. The vehicle has been in the dealers shop four times for this problem.
We own a 2000 Toyota Tundra pickup. While researching the tether strap system behind the driver's side it was brought to our attention the guide bar has an opening facing towards the door that does not allow for the tether strap to be held securely. We had the dealer look at this and was told all Tundras are made this way and that it is not a defect and that it could not be changed. This concerns me that I cannot utilize all safety features of my car seat in the pickup. I need to have two car seats in the truck so simply putting the car seat on the passenger side is not an option. I would like to see a way for that guide bar to be put in correctly so that it would guide the stap to the tether anchor that is available along the side of the floor. Otherwise there should not be an anchor on the drivers side since it cannot be installed correctly because of the guide bar issue as it now stands.
The 2003 Toyota Tundra access cab truck is not compatible with the latch carseat system. The top hook on the truck is larger in size than the hooks on the carseats. It is impossible to install a carseat in either the right or left position in the rear seat of the Tundra. I complained to Toyota and the did redesign the 2004 Tundra to be compatible but did not offer a solution for the problem with the 2003 Tundra. My local Toyota dealership made a modified tether for my child's carseat with a larger hook attached that would fit the Tundra hook. Toyota as a manufacture did not provide a solution however.
