We were driving down the highway and there was a startling loud explosion and I pulled the vehicle to the side of the road for inspection. I discovered that the rear panoramic sunroof had completely shattered, with no obvious cause. There were no other vehicles around. It was sunny and 90 degree f ambient air temperature outside. The air conditioner was running at the time. Fortunately the headliner screen was closed, otherwise the rear passengers may have been showered with broken glass.

Driving on the freeway when I heard what sounded like a gunshot. I kept looking around to see what had hit me. It sounded like it came from the right side of my truck. I couldn't see anything amiss. I started hearing crackling when my hearing cleared up a little. I drew back the moonroof cover to find that the glass had shattered. I don't recall seeing any debris strike the truck. I've saved video on my dash cam and can't see anything from the roadway coming at the truck during that time.
While driving on the highway at approximately 65mph my sunroof spontaneously exploded. It was as loud as a gunshot and glass rained down into the cab as well as “exploded” upward and outward raining down behind my truck while driving. This startled me and all passengers. There were no vehicles ahead of us or in the oncoming lanes on the other side of the separated highway. No foreign debris was found in the truck and there was no other damage anywhere other than the obvious glass lying everywhere. I previously complained to the dealership during routine service that the sunroof made a rattling sound during light bumps. The routine service was completed and I was given the response of “our techs couldn’t reproduce the sound(s) so we can’t help with that today”. They assured me that I could leave the truck and they would look into it “when they could” but that I’d have to leave the truck in the lot and not be given a loaner vehicle.

I have a 2022 Tundra with 18,700 miles on it that is part of the recall for a new engine! this is my fourth Tundra, and the materials used in the 3rd gen are sub-par to say the least! I have already had to replace the actuator and motor in my passenger window because it was stuck halfway open/closed and it took the dealership almost 2 weeks just to get the parts and put them in. My tailgate isn't aligned properly and the mold growth on all the rubber window trim is a nightmare as well as the roof wells that are also covered in mold up and down both sides. My rear passenger door doesn't close correctly and nobody at Toyota knows how to fix any of these issues! I am very concerned about a dealership putting a new engine in my truck when they can't even change the oil or rotate my tires correctly. I also have other serious issues like, I feel a giant thud like somebody rear ended me when I step on the gas from a red light or stop sign and sometimes when I step on the gas on the highway and it scares the heck out of me. It almost feels like the back of my truck fell off. When it's raining out and my hood is covered in water and then the rain stops and I turn my windshieldwipers off, the water that rolls down the hood is spit straight into my windshield from the radiator fan! I also took it to the dealership to fix the fuel line recall, and they said they don't have the parts available, it's been over 2 weeks now and the recall was issued last year.
While driving on interstate 30 in a new vehicle (3 months old), the sunroof exploded without contact from a foreign object. Went to nearest dealership, and their inspection found "no foreign material or signed of impact found. " my wife and I were in the vehicle and no object struck us. If the sunshade was not closed the glass would have certainly sprayed in our faces and caused a significant accident that would have killed us and other motorists around us.
In my car Toyota install tow mirrors. Those mirrors make me big blind spot they are too high and too big. 2 times I almost get accident because I can't see anything. The biggest problem is parking lot and intersection. On that time it's very difficult to drive.
This vehicle is dangerous. There are many more, complaint level issues, but there are at least three real safety issues. First, the automatic braking system has engaged multiple times for no reason. Traveling down a straight, flat road in good weather, the brakes suddenly went fully engaged. On one occasion my dog was thrown forcefully into the dash and was injured and then afraid to ride in the truck. It makes me afraid of the truck as well and could have easily caused an accident. Second, there is the known fuel line issue. This could, according to the manufacturer, be a fire risk. However, there's no remedy. So I'm driving around this truck that could catch fire, that likes to slam on the brakes for no reason. Third, there's something wrong with the windshields in these trucks. Mine recently was broken while the vehicle was parked. It just cracked. Just driving it home made the crack quadruple in size. It's unsafe to drive as is. I contacted Toyota and they aren't interested in considering that there's something wrong with the windshields, yet they can't replace it, because they're back ordered due to so many being broken. So I have a truck that slams on the brakes unpredictably, that might catch fire, that the windshield broke for no reason but can't be replaced. I've spoken several times with Toyota corporate about this and they have no answers and keep referring to the dealer who tells me there are no answers and to call Toyota. It's a classic runaround while my $70,000 truck is unsafe to drive. It's absolutely unsafe and the NHTSA needs to act to protect consumers from these vehicles.
This vehicle has tow mirrors that are located way too high for the driver to see over them - I'm 5'10" and my son is 6'0" and neither of us can see over these mirrors. Over the past year I have had multiple close calls because of the very large blind spot created by the tow mirrors on this vehicle. There is also excessive plastic around the mirror that excerbates the problem. It is only a period of time before a serious accident or a pedestrian collision will happen because of this manuracturing/design defect. Very concerned and disappointed. One specific incident was when I was turning onto a road at a slight and looked both ways and pulled out in front a car that was behind the blind spot and going 60 mph. Very close to a major accident.
Backup camera cuts in and out. When put in reverse only shows a blue screen. Checked connections and seems to happen mostly when it rains.

I was driving down the freeway at about 70mph when the sunroof exploded above me. The temperature outside was about 70f in phoenix. Nothing hit the truck. Chunks of glass rained down in moon roof lining and on the bed of the truck.
When driving into direction of the sun, the design of the hood has a reflection that hits the driver right in the eye with a magnified and stunningly bright glare. It is so blinding even with sunglassses on that I have to drive with one hand up in view of driving blocking it in order to be able to continue driving. It is every time you drive into the direction of the sun. Incredibly dangerous.
When I was driving and snow accumulating on the windshield put stress on the windshield wiper arm. The arm stopped working and I later found that the arm stripped out. I contacted three different dealerships and Toyota America and was told the wiper arm is no longer made ( part #85221-0c021 ). I told Toyota if it rains or snows I can not drive the vehicle due to laws and safety issues. I thought under the magnuson-moss act, a manufacture had to keep parts for items under warranty.

I actually have too very serious issues with my new Tundra. 1) my seat is coming loose from floor of my truck every time I take a corner it feels like it's going to tip over and makes a loud clunk and it feels like the back of the seat is separating from the part where my rear end sits (aka my butt) 2) when it rains the water flows off of the hood and then I am assuming the fan that goes to radiator spits a blast of water right in my driver's side of windshield, this because the poor design of the grill on certain 22 Tundra limited models. Very dangerous if you ask me or anybody else that has this problem which is quite a few people from what I have seen on 2022 Tundra forums. Those are just 2 major issues of the many I have.

Vehicle is now 6 months old from original & new purchase. Within 30-days of ownership, (1) approx 1. 5mm in size chip was fully repaired half way up from the front of the windshield. Eight hours ago (1) extremely small pebble, approx 2mm in size, contacted the front windshield 2 inches from lower portion centered in front of the driver and not in the area of the previous repair. Now, the same chip is a full length horizontal crack. Windshield material(s) seem to be extremely prone to failure and possibly not up to NHTSA or federal specifications. . .
Driver side wiper does not work while passenger side works. Has not been into dealer yet, due for state inspection now, June 2022. No warning, would not work when attempting to leave home.
I was driving on the highway and as I was entering an exit, I heard a loud bang like a shot gun blast. I was on my way back to work from lunch, so I pulled into my office's parking lot. I look at my vehicle's dash display screen to see if a tire had blown. I exited my vehicle and walked around, but didn't notice any damage. Later that afternoon on my way home I heard wind whistling in the vehicle, I checked my windows, but they were all closed. I then opened the sun screen and that is when I noticed a huge hole in the center of my sunroof. The center of the sunroof had blown out.

Turned headlight switch to "on" position but lights did not turn on. Turned switch "off" and back "on" and lights still did not work. Wiggled the switch around some and the lights came on. Truck was sitting in my driveway when this happened. I was driving one night and turned my left turn signal on and the headlights went off. I was able to wiggle the switch around and get them to come back on to make the turn. When I parked I turned the right turn signal on and the headlights went out again. It seems there is a short somewhere in the switch.
Wiper mechanical components under the hood broke loose from wiper transmission on drivers side during heavy rain/sleet/snow without warning. Passenger side still worked. Research indicates years 2015-2018 non lubricated, non repairable plastic components used in mechanical arms wear quickly. Rust because components not protected from weather as preciously built. Would have caused an accident on two lane road if not for passenger to guide to safe stop. This occurred on two lane highway driving highway speed with oncoming traffic. The complete wiper components need to be safety recalled and replaced with redesigned components on all Toyota models affected. Wiper linkage - Toyota (85150-0c070). Note: d not have exact date this occurred because left sitting until weather cleared.
Air bags (manufacture unknown) on sept 29, 2018 while driving on a two lane highway at 50 mph, my steering wheel and knee bags inflated for no reason. I applied the brakes and lost sight of the road for several seconds because of the fog on the windshield. When the fog cleared, I could see that I was going to end up in a field and that I had crossed the center line. I tried to back out of the field but could not because of the muddy conditions. I called my wife, told her the air bags had inflated for no reason. I asked her to call aaa for a tow truck. While speaking to her, a man walked up to ask if I was okay. I said yes. He then asked if I realized I had hit an oncoming vehicle. I was not. I had not seen any other vehicle because of the "fog" from the air bag. I asked him what vehicle and he pointed to a man in a red shirt standing in front of a white pickup with duel rear wheels. I told my wife I needed to go see if anyone was injured, got out of my truck and walked back to the other truck. No one was injured in the accident. I was told by my insurance adjuster that there was approximately $7,000 damage to the other truck. My vehicle was totaled.

The technician informed the contact the recall was not able to be service due to the power window control module needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,214.
The wiper speed, while on high is not fast enough for a moderate rainfall. I was caught in a slightly above average downpour on the highway and I had to reduce my speed by almost 40mph to get a little visibility back. All other vehicles near me flew right past with their wipers on high without any issue. They need to speed up the wiper motor.

I recently purchased a 2014 Toyota Tundra, and the rear view mirror is not large enough to provide a view of the entire rear window, causing reduced visibility and therefore increasing the likelihood of accidents. I believe this is a serious safety hazard. I contacted Toyota and their action is put my remarks on file. I believe this is a design flaw and the vehicles should be recalled and fitted with a mirror that is large enough to provide a view of the entire rear window. The mirror appears to be the same size as a standard car mirror. Are there no standards that regulate the size of mirrors in relation to the width of the rear window?.

I recently purchased a 2000 Toyota Tundra. The drivers side visor dropped down upon driving over slight bumps on the highway affecting my vision of the highway. This has happened multiple times since I purchased the vehicle. Diminished and unexpected vision while driving is very hazardous. I've looked for an adjustment on the visor but I found none. I looked online for assistance for this issue and it appears many others have same issue.
Temperature in utica, NY on Jan 15 at 10 am was -10 degrees. A 5 hour ride back home in snow, dirt, and rain I tried to operate the windshield wiper fluid on the highway 90 west. It would not work because it was frozen. After trying a couple times more, the visibility got worse with temperatures at 5 degrees. Had to pull over to clean the windshield many times until arriving to 23 degree weather. It worked when I arrived home. I also notices the exhaust pipe that seems to touch the exhaust pipe has burnt a hole in the mud flap. This had happened sometime between my trip to utica on Jan 14-15. There has been no add-on mod to the exhaust pipe and the mud-flap but are now sticking together. Is this a fire hazard?.

I have a fiberglass cap on the bed of my pickup truck. When it rains or snows, or during any inclement weather, I can not see out the back window of the cap. There is no wiper for the back window. . All SUV type vehicles have a wiper, but not truck caps. Why? I understand that your fmvss no. 111, rear view mirrors, states that I should be able to see out the rear window, to the horizon, clearly. Without a wiper that is impossible. When the caps are installed on the trucks it blocks the upper brake light, and you made the cap manufacturers put an upper rear brake light on the back of the caps. Since the cap manufacturers are in violation of the rule, you should force them to install wipers on all their caps. It is a safety issue. I read on a michelin wiper blade advertisement that 40% of all accidents are caused by reduced vision. . Read more...
