This morning (11/19/2020) at approximately 4:50am I turned on my car and sat in the driveway to let it warm up. Usually while it warms up I get my bluetooth connected and get my music going, but this time it wouldn't connect. I figured my husband had been playing around with the settings again so I had him come outside to look at it. It still wouldn't even bring up our phones so I shut the car off, waited maybe 30 seconds and turned it back on. This time it brought up our phones but still wouldn't connect and a message popped up on the screen saying "unable to connect- unknown error". At this point I said forget it, I've got to get to work. I put the car in reverse and immediately noticed that the back-up camera wasn't working. Figured I've already got an appointment with Toyota in the morning so I'll bring that to their attention as well. Before I made it out of town I started smelling a faint burning wire smell again. Every time I mentioned it to my husband he'd say he couldn't smell it so I thought maybe I was imagining it. Finally made it to the highway well on my way to work and decided to try the cruise control. Got to the speed limit, turned it on, drove for a few, got paranoid about deer and decided to turn it off. It did not turn off. I pressed the off button and it accelerated. Tried the off button again and again it accelerated. Tried the down button, accelerated again. Thought maybe there's a crossed wire so I tried the up button, you guessed it. Started going faster. It allowed me to break and stop so I pulled over and turned off the car for a few minutes. When I turned it back on everything was functional and was still functioning as expected after work. To be clear, I did not try the cruise control again.

Speed control (cruise control) set to 60 mph. After a while I noticed the car car seemed to be going faster than I felt comfortable with and was passing another car. I looked down and saw the speedometer indicating above 87 mph. Disconnected cruise control and regained normal operation. This was such a slow and gradual increase that it was not noticeable for a while. This has happened on this car on several occasions.

When using the cruise control and going up a hill, abs light and brake light comes on. Now it does it even without cruise control on. Those lights come on when you start the car. The brakes and fluids have all been check and there is no defaults with any of that.

Our daughter was driving on highway 44 in missouri at or near grey summit missouri with the cruise control set on, when our 2008 Toyota Yaris started to accelerate on it's own. Our daughter had to swerve to miss hitting other vehicle on the highway. She attempted to stop and the cruise control did not disengage. To avoid hitting another vehicle she steered the vehicle off the highway and crashed head on into trees. Toyota hired bosch to have the "black box" analyzed. The company and bosch claim no malfunction of the vehicle. Our daughter continues to dispute their claims and we have lost the vehicle in an insurance claim to aaa of missouri. In additional we have lost value in the vehicle, we are paying insurance accident penalties and lost $1000 in deductibles. We continue to dispute Toyota and bosch's claim that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Since our accident there has been additional evidence of "tin whiskers" as potential cause of electronic failure. We believe we have been the unfortunate victims of Toyota negligence and need to request assistance in fighting this issue with Toyota.

This vehicle does not deactivate cruise control unless you stomp on the foot brake. Light application never does it.

2009 Yaris has demonstrated unintended acceleration on two occasions with different drivers. It did respond after hard braking. This was after disengagement of cruise control.
I bought 2007 Toyota Yaris 4 door sedan with automatic. When I used cruise control, it had at least two times sudden acceleration. The engine suddenly made huge noise for the acceleration, and I was scared and immediately canceled it. Although it can be canceled, it is still a safety issue.
