The vehicle do unnecessary abrupt breaking in the highway when the road are reduced due to reparation. In addition in two times, when I tried to park to my garage in the back of other vehicle the breaking system related to collision is activate. This area of my garage is an inclined drive way zone and I put the vehicle back to other. In occasions when I go out to my residence, I need to go thru a control system that content a electrical barrier (electric arm), and around 4 or 5 times, when I close to this area the car did a hard stop, and the collision red light turned on with a beep sound, the same indication when the car activate the breaking system in the highway and when I try to park in some times to my garage. The most critical issue is when hard stooping in the highway due to in these times the other vehicles claimed me why reason I stopping without any reason, and them are very close to collision the back of my car. When this happen the sound of the tires of my car can be ear clearly the hard stopping. I very disappointment and very scare this defect was and will be in danger my life, due to the dealer retailer that I buy my car don't found any issue after my notification and I had no choice open a case directly with the Toyota, and now the dealer retailer will do an a correct inspection but I need to pay for this, is incredible due to my 2020 car only have 18,000 used miles.

My acelerator pedal is so small and I had almost an accident because during a trip my foot got stuck underneat the pedal, I was able to remove at time but it was hard to change to the brakes cause it took like a second to remove my foot, also sometimes I need to speed faster to change a lane to avoid a sudden stop and my foot just jump from the pedal to underneat it, that pedal is a danger and is a probably cause of an accident. Is the size of maybe a little laptop mouse instead to be a full pedal going from the floor to the top.

Unknown. Lights on dashboard came on. Check engine light came on. Car started jerking front and back while driving, accelerating, and braking.
I was at a stop light waiting for a left turn. There was a truck in front of me. The light turned green. The truck drove forward and was beginning to turn. There was a car space between me and the truck. I accelerated to turn and within a few seconds I felt the anti lock brakes activate, car stopped the engine shut off. I had to put the car in park and restart the engine. Its a good thing there wasnt a car behind me.
At 19000 miles I started experiencing problems with my breaking sometimes the anti-lock brakes would work and sometimes the anti-lock brake did not in the brakes will lock up and so would the tires . While traveling at about 25 miles an hour I attempted break and make I turn into a neighborhood when I applied my brakes my brakes locked up and my steering wheel locked up and I ran up on a curb and into a stop sign I didn't hit the stop sign very hard because I was applying my brakes the entire time but needless to say it did happen. There have been other little things that happened in the car that I really didn't pay any attention to but now I will like my screen went out for just a little bit while I was driving and then came back on and my engine made a funny sound that morning when I stopped at a stoplight and kind of had a hard time accelerating, then like maybe an hour later the whole breaking incident happened I don't know if this is something that's happening and all the Toyota Yaris has but I have an IA and it seems to have problems. The dealership was unable to duplicate the problem and informed me that my brakes work just fine and they put it on the computer everything was fine. I'm not convinced.

I recently bought the car from the dealer and I took it back to then 4 times for the same issue and they say it is normal. So my issue is when I'm at a light and I'm in drive or reverse you can see the rpm jump around to about 400 to 700 and the car starts to vibrate shaking the car. The car only has 23,xxx miles on it.

The car does not like the accelerate, when pushing the gas you have to put it all the way to the floor and it takes about 15 seconds to actually accelerate. At 40,000 miles the rear shocks went out, and the left rear tire wore down and is bulging.

I have had this happen twice now where I try to pass someone on interstate 79 northbound from pittsburgh to cranberry township PA and press the gas pedal and once I get to speed the pedal goes to the floor and the car goes to 80 + per hour before I can get it to slow down or stop. Luckily both times there were no cars in front or behind me that I could get control of the car. The first time I ended up putting the car in neutral to get car to stop. Today similar situation except I was able to pump the brakes very hard until I was able to get it to respond and slow down back to the correct speed. I was asked by Toyota if the mats on the floor were obstructing the pedal, and this wasn't the case in either instance. When I called Toyota corporate office they were referring back to my dealer to run diagnostic test which will cost me to have done. I had this in for service the first time this happened ad was told they found nothing and that the next time it happened to call so they could hook up to a computer and see what the problem was. Today when I called the dealer they wouldn't even schedule my car for service, gave me corporate to call and if corporate wanted to have the dealer service they car they would call them. I am now waiting on the dealer to call me so I can pay to have the car looked at to tell me what they may find. I planned on giving this car to my 16 year old daughter for college but I am now concerned what she will encounter and worried about her safety driving it.

I was less than five minutes from home, on my way to take my children to school. I made a right hand turn off the street from my neighborhood, unto the service road that leads to the ramp for the highway entrance. As I headed towards the ramp that enters unto the highway, the 2008 Toyota Yaris felt like it suddenly started to accelerate. Despite my foot was on the brakes, the car would not slow down. I swerved back unto the service road to avoid continuing unto the ramp, in fear that I would crash into the cars on the highway. To avoid hitting any vehicles on the service road, I managed to swerve the vehicle off the side of the road ¿ with the car finally stopping when it crashed into a pole. My children and I suffered seat belt bruising and cuts. I was hospitalized for a few days for hand, foot, and back injuries, and still under doctor's care for the injuries. In addition, the vehicle was a total lost. I have my service receipts reflecting that I kept up with the maintenance of the car. In addition, I had the brakes serviced in October of the previous year.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated that while reversing, the vehicle accelerated independently and crashed into a tree. A police report was filed. There was one injury reported that did not require medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving 30 mph. The check engine light illuminated as the failure occurred. The vehicle resumed normal function when the engine was restarted. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the throttle sensor and the engine wiring harness. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,000 and the current mileage was 76,215.
On 16 August, 2013, while turning into a garage parking spot I took my foot off the accelerator to press on the brake to come to full stop before the concrete column at the end of the parking space when, of its own accord, the car suddenly lurched forward at much accelerated speed. The car crashed into the concrete column destroying the front left head lights, entire front grill work, and the frame of the driver's side door was bent so the door would not be opened. No airbags deployed. On 20 August, 2013 my insurance company deemed the car a total loss.

Driving vehicle on city streets, and attempted to brake. Brake and abs came on, and abs system engaged. Road conditions were dry, weather was warm and sunny. Abs engagement made it difficult to come to complete stop, even though road conditions were dry. Since initial incident, abs system comes on periodically while driving and while braking. Toyota has denied any responsibility for repairs, even though this is a known issue that numerous Yaris owners have experienced. Later models for the Yaris have had the abs design fixed to prevent this issue from happening.
2012 Toyota Yaris. Consumer writes to recommend recalling vehicle model because of its many manufacturing defects.
My brake light and abs light come on and go off every few days, my anti lock brakes disable and some times it's hard to slow down. It's the sensor, it started in the winter.
The contact owns a 2011 Toyota Yaris. The contact was attempting to park when the vehicle accelerated abnormally. The contact attempted to stop the vehicle by abruptly applying the brakes but the vehicle would not stop until crashing into a pole. The vehicle was not destroyed. The vehicle was later taken to a private repair shop and the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 100,000. Front portion of the vehicle was damaged. Updated 11/01/2011.
We drive a 2008 Yaris. Because we got it used and the previous driver drove so much, its 3 year/36,000 mile warranty no longer applied, but we got an extended power train warranty. This year, the engine wiring harness broke, and we found out that Toyota knew about the faulty harnesses. (the TSB on it mentions replacing it with an "improved" harness. ) while Toyota describes this as not being a safety issue, we feel otherwise, as the symptom is an immediate loss of power and inability to accelerate, which could be dangerous on the highway. Needless to say, since this part is not being recalled, since in a dbw car, this is not part of the powertrain, and hence, we are not under warranty, Toyota required us to pay $1000 to fix this.
My vehicle has intermittently exhibited a failure to accelerate once a day or once every other day for a couple of months. The check engine light would come on and the vehicle would not accelerate until the ignition is turned off and restarted. My mechanic told me the problem might be related to the throttle body which he replaced with no improvement in performance. He also told me that Toyota has issued a TSB related to the fault recorded in the engine computer. P0121 is one of the codes mentioned in the TSB which was also the code recoded in my engine computer, however the TSB does not mention the failure to accelerate. I took my vehicle to the local Toyota dealer for further diagnosis. They told me the engine wiring harness needed to be replaced as per the TSB and that the cost would not be covered by Toyota because the vehicle has over 58000 miles on it and it was no longer under warranty. I was shocked that Toyota would not cover this repair considering the potentially dangerous circumstance one could find themselves in when a vehicle cannot accelerate. To my dismay this repair cost me 1000 dollars and its hard to believe that a 2008 model vehicle would need to have the engine wiring harness replaced.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle surged forward and caused a crash. The driver sustained injuries and the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop, but the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I was driving my Yaris and attempted to pass another vehicle on a 4-lane road. I pressed on the accelerator pedal as I entered the left lane and nothing happened. The pedal went halfway down, but the engine did not respond. As I quickly tried to decide what to do as a car in the left lane behind me came up fast, the engine responded unexpectedly and I surged forward. The next time I depressed the pedal, it responded normally at the top of its travel. However, it happened again about 3 weeks later when I was stopped at a red light. The light changed and I pressed on the accelerator. Again, no response. This happened on and off until last week when it started to become more common than the normal response. Since I didn't want to pay Toyota for an expensive fix only a few thousand miles after my warranty ran out, I resolved to get used to it. I adjusted my actions so I didn't expect an immediate response from the car until the pedal got part way down to the floor and, though I'm sure it affected my gas mileage, I could deal with it. Then yesterday, as I pulled into my garage, the pedal response suddenly went back to normal and I almost went through the back of the garage. I bought this car (and one for my wife as well) because of Toyota's reputation for reliability and its fuel economy. Now I don't know what to expect. I have read that Lexus owners have reported the same problem. This is annoying, reduces gas mileage, and could be very dangerous.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Yaris. The contact was driving 5 mph and attempting to park when the vehicle abnormally accelerated and crashed into a wall. The air bags did not deploy and the contact sustained injuries to the knees and hands. A police report was available. The contact called the manufacturer and was advised that there were no recalls for the vehicle. No further assistance was offered. The contact stated that he believed the vehicle to be highly unsafe to drive and would no longer drive the vehicle until repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 2,200. Updated 04/11/11.
I was driving at the regular speed limit and when the car in front of me was stopping to make a left hand turn. I stepped on my brake and the car would not stop. I was practically standing on the brake pedal and the car would not stop and I hit the car in front of me. The airbags deployed. I remember that a policeman told me to put on the emergency brake because the car was still sliding. I know I tried to stop and the car wouldn't stop. Based on their reports of Toyota's sticking accelerator, I thought this should be reported and investigated. I just came home last week. I broke 4 ribs in the accident and the car is totaled. I was in rehabilitation for 2 1/2 weeks. I would like to see this accident investigated. I have a clean driving record and I believe there may have been some type of mechanical issue that would not let me stop the car. The insurance salvage garage is holding the car for 60 days at our request so the car could be inspected.
Been driving a 2007 Yaris since July 2006 - no problems, now have 51,200 miles on it. On a completely dry and flat road on 4/9/10, I was approaching a yellow light at appx. 40 mph and began braking. Right before the light, as I hit a little bump (uneven pavement section where it changed from bridge surface to blacktop) the engine surged -- I felt it, saw the rpm needle go up and heard the engine rev. I had my foot on the brake the whole time. Had to push the brake very hard to get car to stop. No repairs / inspections yet - not looking forward to a dealership telling me they cannot duplicate the incident. Sounds like the 2010 prius brake recall issue to me . . .
At 60mph on the highway the accelerator stopped responding and the check engine light came on. Pressing the accelerator to the floor gave no response and the car rapidly slowed. Accelerator began to respond a minute or two afterwards but was not consistent. This is the second instance of this happening within 6 months of purchasing this 2009 Toyota Yaris. The first time it happened they received error code p2121 when diagnosing the problem. They replaced the accelerator pedal assembly including the position sensors which were said to be the cause of the issue. It is in the shop this morning and I have not yet received word on the cause of the issue this time.
I was driving a 2010 Toyota Yaris rental car from hertz. The vehicle had difficulty starting, so I jump started it from another vehicle. It ran a bit rough for a few minutes, so I let it warm up. I put it into drive and proceeded to drive home. The car refused to accelerate beyond 1,000 rpm in drive. The maximum speed I was able to achieve was 10 mph (down hill). I shut off the car and started it again (after letting it idle for 10 minutes). The "check engine" light was on, but in park - the car could be revved to 2,000 rpm (max). That is with my foot on the floor. There were no floor mats in the vehicle. I pulled the car over - parked it and called hertz to come pick it up. I am not sure if the Yaris is being recalled, but NHTSA should take a look at this model as well.
My 2009 Toyota Yaris needs to be placed upon the recent recalls with Toyota. My accelerator pedal is beginning to get harder to push down, my brakes are mushy and are sometimes hard to stop the vehicle, when I have my defrosters on, the car wants to keep going and braking is harder. My radio randomly switches to am radio when its off, or on a different station. This all sounds electrical, and I have taken it to the dealer twice and been told no problems. I have an appointment next week to have it looked at again. I just wanted to inform someone that the 2009 Toyota Yaris' have problems and need to be looked at.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Yaris. The contact was driving approximately 70 mph on normal road conditions when pressure was applied to the brake pedal and there was an unintended surge. The engine began to rev excessively high. Suddenly, the vehicle slowed down. The identical failure continued to occur. The driver pulled over to the side of the road, turned off the vehicle and was able to resume normal operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer; however, the technician was unable to duplicate the failure and recommended that the tires be replaced. The vehicle has not been repaired. Updated 03/30/10. Updated 06/10/10.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Yaris. She stated that with the vehicle in park without having her foot on the accelerator pedal, the vehicle started to rev really fast and felt like the vehicle wanted to take off. She turned the vehicle off and called the dealer. The dealer stated that she needed to bring the vehicle in to have it diagnosed. There had been no repairs done to the vehicle. The failure mileage was 5000 and current mileage was 9062.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated while driving at speeds of 28 mph, the contact moved to avoid another vehicle. The contacts vehicle then abnormally accelerated to speeds of 60 mph and he was unable to stop the vehicle by depressing the brakes. The vehicle proceeded to crash into a boulder and the air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact was not injured and the vehicle was towed to a local repair shop. The manufacturer advised an investigator would further inspect the vehicle for a determination of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileages were 55,000.
