This 2020 Yaris is registered to me but driven by my daughter to her workplace less that 3 miles away. The first incident involved the engine laboring to start and when she came home, the battery was dead. I was able to re-charge the battery at home but 2 days later, the car would not start at home. I have an auto engine scanner that registered a p2610 code stating "an engine control module, ecm/pcm engine off timer performance". The battery had been completely drained of its liquid. This is a safety hazard that could have stranded my daughter as she sometimes drives to houston which is about 30 miles away. I researched this code and found that the NHTSA has previously issued notices on these problems. We need help getting it resolved. Car is available for inspection.

I went to the dealership to get my safety recall fixed and I was informed that my safety recall cannot be fixed. This is a problem because I am risking my life every time I drive this car I want to know if getting a lawyer to resolve this issue is the best solution to getting this problem solved.
Unknown. Lights on dashboard came on. Check engine light came on. Car started jerking front and back while driving, accelerating, and braking.
Malfunctioning components 1. Door locks do not lock all the time when the lock button is pressed. 2. Randomly I will find my doors unlocked, when I closed them when I got out. 3. Doors unlock by themselves and that poses a problem for me and my family. To be able to figure out the issue I have to take it to the dealer where they charge an arm and a leg to diagnose the issue, due to covid-19 and the hardship it has caused my family I don’t have the funds to do that. Somebody has to push the dealers to help the consumers out for a change. Thank you.

From July 2020 - Jan 2021, I experienced my vehicle cranking but not starting on multiple occasions. I took it in several times to be fixed, but the problem was intermittent and could not be duplicated. However, the last time I picked it up from Toyota (problem could not be duplicated), it happened and I called the service advisor over, and he even tried turning it, but it wouldn't start. The solution was the key fob. I inquired how they knew it was the key fob, but they did not give me an answer. February 2021 it started to happen again. . But has not occurred as of March 2021. I think when it shuts off driving on the freeway, then maybe Toyota would investigate this more. The second problem that has happened infrequently in 2020 was my backup camera being blacked out or glitchy. As of February 2021, this would occur frequently, however intermittent as well. I showed the service advisor the video of the problem, but they couldn't fix it if they can't replicate it. I contacted Toyota customer service again to address these two problems. I think 2019 Toyota Yaris is a lemon vehicle with not many sold, therefore unlikely for Toyota to take action if there is no class action lawsuit mandating them. Perhaps it made financial sense similar to the Ford pinto. I would advise more people with 2019 Toyota Yaris to post here, so NHTSA could investigate, call Toyota customer service so they can account for the problems, or reach out to a lawyer, because you should not be fixing a new car to this extent. . .
Was driving on the freeway at 70 mph and had to brake for slower traffic ahead. When I depressed the brake pedal, the abs system engaged, braking the left side of the car, then the right almost sending me off the road. After this had happened, the speedometer had started jumping to different speeds very rapidly and I was unable to tell my correct speed. The antilock brakes have continued to engage randomly when they are not needed, cause loss of braking control and the overall ability to come to a stop. The speedometer also jumps around every now and then. The abs light was only triggered once, and then turned off.

This morning (11/19/2020) at approximately 4:50am I turned on my car and sat in the driveway to let it warm up. Usually while it warms up I get my bluetooth connected and get my music going, but this time it wouldn't connect. I figured my husband had been playing around with the settings again so I had him come outside to look at it. It still wouldn't even bring up our phones so I shut the car off, waited maybe 30 seconds and turned it back on. This time it brought up our phones but still wouldn't connect and a message popped up on the screen saying "unable to connect- unknown error". At this point I said forget it, I've got to get to work. I put the car in reverse and immediately noticed that the back-up camera wasn't working. Figured I've already got an appointment with Toyota in the morning so I'll bring that to their attention as well. Before I made it out of town I started smelling a faint burning wire smell again. Every time I mentioned it to my husband he'd say he couldn't smell it so I thought maybe I was imagining it. Finally made it to the highway well on my way to work and decided to try the cruise control. Got to the speed limit, turned it on, drove for a few, got paranoid about deer and decided to turn it off. It did not turn off. I pressed the off button and it accelerated. Tried the off button again and again it accelerated. Tried the down button, accelerated again. Thought maybe there's a crossed wire so I tried the up button, you guessed it. Started going faster. It allowed me to break and stop so I pulled over and turned off the car for a few minutes. When I turned it back on everything was functional and was still functioning as expected after work. To be clear, I did not try the cruise control again.
I got new tires and took the car for an alignment. I am constantly having to slightly correct my steering wheel. One to three degrees to the left and right at any speed the entire time I am driving. It was setup for the diagnostic test and the technician came back in less than five minutes. To tell me that there is nothing wrong with my alignment and everything was at factory spec. So I told him to drive it and tell me that there is nothing wrong with my car. He came back looking shocked and said that was weird. Like driving on wet glass. So he started to ask me questions. My answers to the question were. I am the original owner, never been in an accident with the car or hit debris of any kind. Tires are brand new, no check engine or warning lights. Diagnostic scanner to the obd port came back with no problems. Car had 25,000 miles on it at the time. I've been told it could be any of eight or nine problems or a combination of a few. Electric power steering, traction control, abs, tire pressure monitor, steering angle sensor, tie rod, ball joints, suspension. My question is, how does this happen with regular service and no warning detection system on board or service equipment finding anything ???.
The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the front passenger's seat belt failed to securely fasten into the buckle. The contact stated that the front passenger's side mirror cover detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer to be inspected. The contact was informed that there was an electrical short within the dashboard. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,000. The VIN was not included.
On Sunday, August 4th drove approximately 3 miles down route 650 on new hampshire avenue, silver spring, MD. Stopped at the atm enroute to church. Got back into the vehicle and travelled approximately 1 mile proceeding to the east west highway exit on left. Suddenly the car started making a pulling or straining noise. I was shocked since the car was brand new and I had recently just purchased the car. Suddenly the car locked and I had no control of it. I indicated to the car in back to go around me. I immediately pulled up the emergency brake since I had no control of the car and coasted across the street and parked. Then I called road service and informed them what had occurred. They informed me that the car was inoperable and would need to be towed to the dealership for service on Monday. A tow truck arrived about 1 hour later. The gentleman got in the car and now was able to get the car back in the park position (which I was not able to do earlier). He was now able to turn the car off and restart it. I then got in my car drove around while the tow truck waited. Then I went home terribly shaken up at what could have happpened.
P/s dashboard red light came on with sudden loss of steering assist while turning and driving. Luckily the car is light, but I could have easily hit an object, had it happened in a different location or at a different speed. Problem disappeared by itself. Two weeks thereafter, an extremely strong burned electrical circuitry smell suddenly filled the vicinity of the car, could be felt from about 10 feet away, while idling, while stopped for approximately 30 seconds with front wheels turned to the right about half-way, as I was checking my mail box upon entering driveway. A low pitch whining/droning noise was emanating from under the hood while the car was idling. The noise and odor persisted after the steering was set at 0 degree angle and after the car was parked. No p/s dashboard warning light came on. No loss of steering assist. No visible sign of smoke, fire, or melted plastic in engine compartment fuse box. Wire harnesses looked intact. Suspect eps - electric power steering motor. Outside temperature about 85of. Car driven for just 3 miles on that day, side street driving only, never over 35 mph. Ac fan on full blast, headlights off. Car had difficulty accelerating upon depressing the gas pedal on same day, prior to aforementioned incident.

Tl the contact owns a 2009 Toyota Yaris. While driving approximately 25 mph, the driver noticed smoke around the front driver side door window. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and turned off the engine. A certified independent mechanic came out to inspect the vehicle and noticed that the circuit board was smoking. The mechanic disconnected the circuit board to prevent the vehicle from catching on fire. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v689000 (visibility). The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 70,185.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was defective and failed to display the correct amount of fuel in the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated before or after the failure. The vehicle was taken to dch Toyota of oxnard (1631 auto center dr. , oxnard, CA 93036) for diagnostic testing, but the failure was unable to be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. The VIN was not provided.
Takata recall my Toyota Yaris has had recalls 1) the front passenger airbag inflator 2) power window master switch 3) driver side seat track assembly & passenger seat track assembly 4) safety recall e0m - remedy notice various models - spiral cable basically, the driver's airbag is damaged and can possibly fail to deploy. The passenger airbag is a bomb, the windows can cause smoke and fire in my car and both driver and passenger seats can snap off the railing causing people in the vehicle to slide forward or backwards (with no airbag protection) in the case of an accident. This vehicle is a death trap - and when I called to schedule the recalls at my local Toyota dealership I was told it will take over 30 days for the parts to arrive. When I asked what I am supposed to do about driving my family around in my vehicle the representative said that Toyota only "recommends" you don't drive passengers. Is this seriously how Toyota will deal with their customers? my car should be completely recalled with these sort of issues. These are not minor issues.
The air bag light stay on / ac knob not working.
The Toyota Yaris 2009 I purchased had a recall already never claimed since owning with loan failures of the mechical tires along with computer problems and more.
The airbag light is on all the time and seat belt light flashes not stopping.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Toyota Yaris. The coontact stated that while driving about 70 mph, he pulled to side and saw an orange glow under the hood of the vehicle. The contact opened the hood and saw the electrical wires on the fire wall burning, producing small flames. There was no warning indicator. The contact was unable to put out the flames. He quickly evacuated his belongings from the vehicle, and momentarily, the vehicle exploded into a ball of flames. There was no injuries. The local police and fire dept were at the scene. A police report was filed. The vehicle was completely destroyed. The manufacturere was notified of the failure and stated that an investigation would be conducted. The failuer mileage was unknown. The VIN was not provided.
Airbag recall is over a year old with no remedy. Also my electric window is subject to recall with no remedy. I want these fixed - it is not safe.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Toyota Yaris h/b. The contact stated that while at a stop sign, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The vehicle was towed to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 134,000. Djr.
When I tried to roll the window down, by clicking on the button, there was a small fire that caused smoke inside the car. I would also like to verify my breaks and airbags. I would like to make an appointment to bring my car in either Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday.
I got in my car, started the engine, immediately I started smelling strong burning smell. Than started seeing smoke from the driver door. Within few seconds I started seeing flames. Since I was already on the road, I couldn't just stop the car. The flamed got bigger and bigger, in the car cabin, it was fill with burning smoke. I tried to roll down the window, it didn't want to work. I has a cup of coffee in the car, I poured it on the flame and it subsided a little. Than the flamed started to get bigger again and started melting the interior panel of the door including everything around the inner door handle. I parked as soon as I was able to and took a cloth and tried to wrap around the handle to open the door, but couldn't. It was too hot and flames were burning. So I crawled over the the passenger seat and got out of the car. Than went to the outside of driver door and opened the door from outside and took off my shirt and tried to killed the fire. I was parked at a parking lot behind a building at a mall. I reached out for help from the maintenance personnel at the parking lot. They didn't have any tools to help me disengaged the cables from the battery. Finally a lady had a bottle of water that kind of eased the flame a little and a man that was walking by got a tool and helped me dis-engaged the cable from battery. The interior panel of the door is melted including the window controls. The window is dark from the flame. The whole car smells like burn smoke. The fire truck, the police came. The head of the security of the building came. I have a police report and what happened was documented. I need to know what to do now. I have pictures to prove the damages. Please let me know what I should do next.
The keys can be removed from the ignition with the engine running. Possibility of the keys falling out in an accident and unable to turn off engine.
The engine turn off suddenly and the power steering system fail, then engine turn on and power steering works fines . Its pass several times.
The contact owns a 2011 Toyota Yaris. While the front passenger seat was occupied, the front passenger air bag was deactivated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag sensor failed due to the weight in the passenger seat being too heavy. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

I rented a 2014 Toyota Yaris from fox rent a car at the orlando, FL airport on 2/26/14. The car had seven miles on it. After driving two blocks the car just stared to coast. I pumped the accelerator pedal but there was no response. The engine didn't speed up, the car just kept coasting. When the speed dropped to approx. Five miles an hour the transmission caused the car to jerk forward as if it was engaging and the car drove as it should. After driving another two or three blocks the same thing happened. Because of the safety hazard of entering an intersection or entering a freeway with no power I call fox rant a car and told them of the problem. A woman in the roadside service office told me the car probably had a transmission which could be shifted from automatic mode into a manual mode and I probably done that by mistake. I told her this was a bare-bones car with no options and the car did not have that type of transmission. The next day when we tried to drive it, it constantly went into this mode where the car went into the coast mode and the transmission would not reengage until the car slowed down to about five miles an hour. I took the car to the Toyota dealer in melbourne and they conducted computer tests and even took it on a test drive with the computer on board. They could find nothing wrong. I called fox rent a car and after much hassle they delivered another 2014 Yaris with 1049 miles on it to me. This car does the same thing. The VIN number given above is for the second car. Apparently there is some electrical problem that causes this model to disengage the power train and go into the coast mode. This is very dangerous because you never know when the car will do this. Please look into the dangerous situation. Thank you.

Water drain for a/c system condenser clogged. Has happened every summer since purchase in 2007. Water fills the drain, and gets trapped within the unit leading to an overflow onto the blower and blower motor shorting the relays. Fuses are blown, and the blower motor needs replacing. It has happened several times. A mold buildup also occurs in carpeting leading to a health hazard.
Since I buy the car sometimes when I turn ignition on it makes the noise that is starting all lights on the dashboard turn on for a almost a 20 to 30 sec. Then sometimes when I'm driving the speed gear drops with out me braking also when I turn right signal on sometimes the reverse light on dashboard also turn on. One time all lights on dashboard were blinking went I turn signal on. I took it to the dealer the person there told me they don't have any recalls and no complain then can't do anything if they don't see the problem. I have a video this. Now when I hit the brake the right signal canes on. Second time I took the car to the dealer the ignition call had a failure they replace coil 3 and dashboard lights diagnostic came normal and vehicle lights still do the samething. And ignition still does the samething and if I go back to the dealer to do another diagnostic they will charge me 124 dollars if nothing is found wrong. The problem is there but they can't find it I show the video to the guy in the dealer and still nothing.
Our daughter was driving on highway 44 in missouri at or near grey summit missouri with the cruise control set on, when our 2008 Toyota Yaris started to accelerate on it's own. Our daughter had to swerve to miss hitting other vehicle on the highway. She attempted to stop and the cruise control did not disengage. To avoid hitting another vehicle she steered the vehicle off the highway and crashed head on into trees. Toyota hired bosch to have the "black box" analyzed. The company and bosch claim no malfunction of the vehicle. Our daughter continues to dispute their claims and we have lost the vehicle in an insurance claim to aaa of missouri. In additional we have lost value in the vehicle, we are paying insurance accident penalties and lost $1000 in deductibles. We continue to dispute Toyota and bosch's claim that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Since our accident there has been additional evidence of "tin whiskers" as potential cause of electronic failure. We believe we have been the unfortunate victims of Toyota negligence and need to request assistance in fighting this issue with Toyota.
