I was driving home from work and I noticed the light came on for my airbag. I checked the manual and it said to bring it in to the service center immediately. I called and made an appointment and I was told the spiral cable was bad. I noticed other people have the same problem so I think this is a part that should be recalled.

Failure Date: 07/17/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, smoke emitted from the driver¿s side window. The vehicle was merged onto another street and the fire department was notified. The fire department extinguished the fire and reported that it was an electrical fire. The door panel was removed because all of the wires were melted. This caused the window to remain open. A report was available if needed. There were no injuries. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was notified and stated that they would get in touch with the contact. The vehicle was still drivable. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 70,000.

39 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

The reason I decided to send this report is because I have seen this problem with the same type of vehicle before, I own a driving school with 4 Toyota Yaris from 2007-2009 and had a problem with a burn smell and smoke coming out from the power switch, we turn the car off and when we took the door panel apart we notice the power switch had burn. We purchase another power switch thinking that we did not wanted the car catch a fire. Now about 2 weeks ago we experience the same issue with another Yaris. And this time the fire was a bit bigger than before. Since we had to take the disconnect the power switch and blow the fire out ourselves. This problem could have been worst since the power switch is sitting on a type of foam that if it catches fire it will easy spread and hurt someone. If I could please get some information if Toyota will be recalling this issue. I do not want to spend another $200 for a new power switch. Thank you.

The contact mentioned that the vehicle vibrated regardless of the gear shifter stick position but vibrated less while in neutral. The failure occurred constantly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed but the cause of the failure was not found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000. Jo.

43 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 07/20/2011

Recurrent accelerator pedal failure (drive by wire) with check engine light warning. Occasionally, when accelerating, the check engine light comes on and the pedal depressing action initially has no effect for several depressions and then it works minimally. This may last for a while or for just a short period. It has happened several times. I did a search online and other people are having the same problem.

44 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 04/07/2011

Air bag warning light came on at about 75,000 miles. Only the dealership could diagnose problem. Ended up being the "spiral cable". $530 for parts and labor to replace. I was given no explanation of why it had gone bad or if it was a defective item to begin with. When I type in a search on the internet for spiral cable, the majority of the posting involve Toyotas.

45 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 03/20/2011

The abs brake sensor connector on the rear wheels hubs is not sealed and allows water and road salts to corrode the electrical connection, whitch causes the abs system to be deactivated. The vehicle still has brakes but no abs brakes. When I took the car into Toyota for diagnostics they siad that it has been a problem and that there was no perminate fix as of yet. They also said that it would be $600. 00 per wheel to fix the problem and that it could happen again the next winter. It seems to me that if Toyota knows about the problem they should be required to fix it.

46 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

I was driving my Yaris and attempted to pass another vehicle on a 4-lane road. I pressed on the accelerator pedal as I entered the left lane and nothing happened. The pedal went halfway down, but the engine did not respond. As I quickly tried to decide what to do as a car in the left lane behind me came up fast, the engine responded unexpectedly and I surged forward. The next time I depressed the pedal, it responded normally at the top of its travel. However, it happened again about 3 weeks later when I was stopped at a red light. The light changed and I pressed on the accelerator. Again, no response. This happened on and off until last week when it started to become more common than the normal response. Since I didn't want to pay Toyota for an expensive fix only a few thousand miles after my warranty ran out, I resolved to get used to it. I adjusted my actions so I didn't expect an immediate response from the car until the pedal got part way down to the floor and, though I'm sure it affected my gas mileage, I could deal with it. Then yesterday, as I pulled into my garage, the pedal response suddenly went back to normal and I almost went through the back of the garage. I bought this car (and one for my wife as well) because of Toyota's reputation for reliability and its fuel economy. Now I don't know what to expect. I have read that Lexus owners have reported the same problem. This is annoying, reduces gas mileage, and could be very dangerous.

47 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 04/26/2010

My 2009 Toyota Yaris experiences a loss of power, and has weird pedal habits whenever I use my radio/cd player/aux port. Other Yaris owners are claiming that this is also happening to them. When I am using the radio/cd player or aux, the car is totally different. It is almost a safety hazard because the car acts differently.

48 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 02/18/2010

My 2009 Toyota Yaris needs to be placed upon the recent recalls with Toyota. My accelerator pedal is beginning to get harder to push down, my brakes are mushy and are sometimes hard to stop the vehicle, when I have my defrosters on, the car wants to keep going and braking is harder. My radio randomly switches to am radio when its off, or on a different station. This all sounds electrical, and I have taken it to the dealer twice and been told no problems. I have an appointment next week to have it looked at again. I just wanted to inform someone that the 2009 Toyota Yaris' have problems and need to be looked at.

49 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 01/13/2010

The car has shut off several time while sitting at a traffic light. The car has shut down several times while driving. Thankfully no one was injured or hurt. Another issues: my current 2008 Yaris has only 23,382 miles on it, so the car does not have high mileage. I have installed a total of 2 different aftermarket alarms on the car both by professional businesses one being best buy. The car is currently in the shop because of various electrical components on the car not working. I have read on several websites that this is an issue with the 2008 Yaris. I've had to remove the first alarm after 3 months of purchase because I was told the alarm was the issue. The second alarm replacement causes the same problem. Is there an issue with installing aftermarket alarms on the 2008 Yaris and what can be done about it?.

51 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 03/17/2008

To whom it may concern: my name is katherine aguayo maldonado, resident of gurabo, puerto rico. The reason of this letter is because I have a big problem and I need to know how you can help me. I am proprietor of a car Toyota Yaris of year 2007, clear green color. At dawn of the past Monday March 17, 2008 the car caught fire in my residence apparently by a short circuit. The vehicle already turned a year since I bought it and has less than 10,000 miles. I proceed to make a claim to the insurance agency. The insurance company sent a electromechanical expert to verify my car on April 8, 2008. The electromechanical expert verified the car, but he cannot determinate from where the failure came, because the vehicle caught fire by the part airbag of the passenger and by the lateral center of the side of the driver. That was, two isolate fires. The electromechanical determined that it was a factory defect because the vehicle never has ben taken to the dealer where I bought it nor has been altered since the vahicle is new of factory. Therefore, the electromechanical expert determined that it a fault of the manufacturer. By such reason, I let know my case to know in what form someone can help me. I am a disabled person that I need an automobile to attend continuous madical appointments and the insurance company informed me that they cannot make me any reimbursement by the monney already paid by an entire year and in addition, they informed me that I must continue paying the vehicle until as much the insurance settles the account to the bank. I understand that this is not fair and that I need any help from you to solve this matter as soon as possible since I have lost many medical appointments beacuse I have no transportation. Waiting for any news from you, I remain, sincerely, katherine aguayo maldonado.
