Noticed an fuel smell coming from the engine bay. After a few times of looking for the source I came across the fuel rail covered in gunk. Wiped off rail and cycled the engine. Noticed the fuel rail is leaking from what looks like the fuel rail mounting bolt.

I have a diesel leak which Volkswagen did not repair (after I towed it there and told them about it in writing) and is not causing a light in the dash however, when plugging in an odbeleven, several codes are generated and one is related to a low fuel pressure sensor. I also watched the fuel line dripping. Vw claims that it is unreasonable to ask them to pay what I already paid to have the car fixed (diagnostics, rental, tow). It was reasonable for me to buy it and pay for all that though apparently. With a diesel leak, it's unsafe to drive so I currently have a piece of metal outside that I'm only halfway through paying on. This indeed is a tdi 2. 0l they sold me 3 years ago.
My car seems to loose power after its at less than 1/4 of a tank. I cleaned out tank and changed fuel pump but it's still happening and its highly dangerous.

2018 Beetle with 2. 0 tsi. Vehicle is extremely well maintained and all work has been done by vw dealers. This is not our primary vehicle and, as a result, it only has about 8600 miles. Stopped at a store for a few minutes. Vehicle would not restart. Many fault lights appeared on the dash (e. G. , battery, check engine, epc). Pushed vehicle into another area of the parking lot where there was more room in case it needed to be towed. Waited a few minutes and tried to restart. Vehicle sputtered and seemed to be running on only 1 or 2 cylinders for a few seconds. Gave it a little gas, all lights went off, full engine power resumed. Sat there a few minutes evaluating engine performance, everything seemed fine. Decided to head to the dealership instead of going home. After about 2 miles engine stopped running. Many fault lights appeared including battery, epc, check engine, and so many others I can’t even recall. Had almost no steering. Struggled to coast vehicle to shoulder. Weather was very hot and traffic was heavy, not a pleasant situation or place to get stranded. Waited a minute or two. Tried to restart. Vehicle coughed, sputtered, and shook like it was only running on 1 cylinder. Shut vehicle off and sat. Tried to restart 2 or 3 more times without success. On next attempt vehicle sputtered to life, lights went off, and full power resumed. Tested engine performance and it seemed fine. Epc light came on. Still heading to the dealership. Got another 1. 5 miles or so. Epc and check engine light came on. Another engine failure. Super heavy traffic on a 6-lane highway. Luckily I had enough speed to coast off the road and into a dirt parking lot. Many fault lights on the dash. Waited a few minutes. Tried to restart vehicle, no luck. Vehicle was towed to closest vw dealership. Absolutely terrifying and horrific 3 hours.

The passenger side headlight very frequently isn't working due to the connection between the headlight assembly and the car's wiring. We've tried many different times to improve this connection without much success. Anecdotally I had another Beetle with this issue, and see others on the road with it. I think it is a safety issue as visibility is affected as well as my ability to see at night.
When going over speed bumps or bumps in roads, the suspension is squeaky. In motion on city streets the gas cap became defective and the check engine light is on. Service department at vw states the gas cap needs replaced. There is now a noise on the back right panel behind the gas cap after turning off car.
Sun roof and noise when I back up.

Engine light is on and every time I put gas in the car it does not turn on on first try I have to keep turning ignition key 3-4 time before it start. The car is turned off.
Driving my 2004 Volkswagen Beetle is dangerous. The tiptronic transmission in the 2004 vw Beetle is known by Volkswagen to be defective. At any point the valve body can fail, which causes delayed shifting, and hard jerking between gears. My 2004 Beetle fails to shift when accelerating between 2nd and 3rd gear. This causes the vehicle to coast for several seconds, sometimes requiring pulling off the road because of traffic. When downshifting it jerks extremely hard. You get in, start the engine, and receive no warnings that anything is wrong with the vehicle. No check-engine light provides any indication that the vehicle is dangerous. You drive down some city streets and hop onto the freeway to go to your favorite grocery store. After getting off the freeway the car is fully warmed up, and as it downshifts from 4th to 3rd gear it lurches. It feels like the engine is trying to jump out of the car! no engine light comes on. Then you stop at the end of the off-ramp, and wait for a traffic light to turn. After turning the car shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. Then it fails to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. The gear doesn't engage, and the car coasts down the road without any power. Drivers passing by are staring. The SUV behind you is right on your butt; they begin honking. There's nothing you can do. Finally, after 20 seconds of coasting the car enters 3rd gear with a giant lurch. It feels like it's going to explode! you pull into the grocery store parking lot, heart racing, knowing that the car you're driving almost caused an accident that could kill a half a dozen people. And you know to get home it's going to happen all over again. This problem is reported by hundreds of owners. This is an extreme safety hazard. Volkswagen needs to recall the affected vehicles and pay damages for those whose transmissions were destroyed by this defective valve body and transmission.

A huge amount of 2. 0l engines (1998-2006) seem to stall when driving or stationary after 20 min from cold start in high temps (+75f) . Loss of power steering and power assist brakes. It happened to me 2x while driving 45 mph. Scary. Dealers and mechanics can't locate issues because its intermittent. Cars operate normal again after 10-20 mins. . Read more...
Feul leak, rear passanger side right. Same side that the fuel fill is on.
Engine stallig usually when turning, after a stop, when going slow. . . We have tried to fix this issue by taking the car to mechanics and they can't rule out a solution because it happens randomly and it seems to be when the car has been warmed up. No check engine light. Very scary because there's loss of steering wheel power and it happens intermittently. We have changed numerous things and it keeps giving us this issue. Sometimes it idles rough. Sometimes the needle where the rpms are drops but comes back up. We have exhausted our options and we can't find a solution.

Takata recall.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen Beetle. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking fuel. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel line was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The certified mechanic also informed the contact of NHTSA campaign number: 10v621000 (fuel system, gasoline) and informed the contact that the failure of the vehicle was similar to the failure indicated in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN number was not included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000. Gl.

After a business trip into austin my vehicle started jerking when I would brake or accelerate. At first I thought it was nothing just my car acting different because the the immediate change in speed going from 85 to about 40 to exit off the interstate. On the way to houston there was no trouble until the next day. The following evening being my first time driving it all day, I was pulling out of my neighborhood and when trying to stop at a stop sign my vehicle jerked 4 or 5 times then stopped when the wheel locked up and the battery and engine light came on as I was at a stop sign. I turned off my car then turned it back on and the wheel was unlocked and the battery light was off, but the engine light was still on. I proceeded to drive it because I wanted to see if it would do it again and it didn't, but I still refuse to drive it until I know what's wrong.
It is accelerating on it own when stopped or in gear or not. Really scary.
Driving 60 mph in rush hour 6/19/15 & suddenly eng lights go on & car stalled in middle of traffic! I was scared I was going to be rear ended & killed. Put flashers on called 911. Police parked behind me while I waited for tow truck. Officer asked to try & start to see if I could get to side of road. I was able to start it, but only drive a few feet before stuttered & died again. Had it towed to tynans vw, where it was purchased & reg maintained. Next day vw verified engine light was on when they started. However, they claim it went off when they drove a few miles. Code indicated issue related to fuel system, however they weren’t able to find anything wrong with car. They kept car a few days, drove it 90 miles w/ no issues. I contacted vw corp & reported incident & explained dealer can’t figure out what’s wrong. I explained I’m not comfortable driving car until they can determine why my car stalled. They said it was likely debris in gas that could’ve caused fuel not to flow properly - really? they wanted to know what brand of gas I used - conoco - brand name. This is serious! my car stalled for a reason, something failed. I realize cars breakdown, I have no problem, as long as the issue is identified & fixed. I do have a problem, however, w/vw handing car back to me not knowing why it happened. Told to bring it back if it happens again. If it happens again, I may not be so lucky. What if this happened on mountain pass? in the snow? or in middle of a busy intersection? research, you will find other fuel issues & stalling complaints, & recalls for other vw cars tiguan, passat etc. No recall for fuel/stalling issues on Beetle. . Yet. I do not want myself or anyone else to become a statistic before vw identifies the problem. Gm failed to recall the chevy cobalt. They knew about issue for 10 yrs before recalling, after 13 people died. Is that what you’re waiting for vw?.
Gas leakage from under hood identical to recall #20i4 but was told by vw dealership car was checked 3 years earlier and there was no problem in the location of parts and that this leakage happened at another area of the fuel line and vw of America concurred with dealership. Luckily there was no fire because it was leaking bad and I took it to the dealership after smelling gas odor inside car. It seems vw won't own up to anything unless there is a casualty. After having bought three Beetles I have no confidence in vw of America and this dealership anymore. Also the headliner has to be replaced and the windshield wipers never worked properly after dealership checked it when it was still under warranty. Very low mileage to be incurring design problems.

I recieved a cupon in the mail from midas for $19. 95 oil change with coupon. The coupon specified to bring coupon with me to a midas mechanic shop to get the $19. 95 oil change. I went to midas at 4480 s babcock street, melbourne florida and I presented the coupon. The manager asked me did you bring your own synthetic oil like you use to, I responded no I have a coupon. He printed the receipt for $19. 95, and I signed. I use to buy my own synthetic oil and midas charged me $19. 95 for oil change at same rate they charge for regular oil change. Midas always advertised outside their shop an oil change for $19. 95. This price is without a coupon. As the mechanic drove my car into the shop for oil change, I reminded the mechanic my car takes only synthetic oil. He told the manager/owner and came back to tell me they are going to put syntactic oil. So he started changing the oil. After he was done the mechanic told me to go and pay for the oil change. The manger/owner asked for my credit card and he did all the transactions and hand me the receipt in a envelop. As I am leaving the shop I took the receipt out of the envelop and found out the manager/owner charged me $62. 66 for oil change without saying a ward to me. He should of told me to come back and sign anther agreement for the $62. 66 but he choose not to because he wanted to make more money and if he told me I would of said no, and I would of told him I want to comeback with my own synthetic oil. The owner wanted me to bring the car back so he could take his syntactic oil out and put regular oil instead in my car even though he knows my car does not use regular oil. I replied you would break my car and might do something to the engine that could cause danger to me and others if breaks in the middle of the road. I refused to let him put regular oil in my car for fear of mechanical damage to my car.

This car has a fuel leak in the engine compartment of the fuel supply rail for the fuel injector system. There is a gasoline smell inside the passenger compartment and very noticeable outside. This appears to be a serious safty. Defect. It has taken volkswagon more than a week to locate parts for the expensive repair which may indicate this is a common safty problem with this model car. I am being charged over $1,000 for the repair but feel this may be a serious defect in the car. Please investigate and advise.
Exited the interstate and once on the off ramp, tried to speed up and the engine service light started to flash, then the vehicle slowed and would not accelerate. I was able to drive home at about 35 mph. Stopped the car, then restarted and the light went off. Called the closest vw dealer . At first they said call the vw roadside help since we had not bought the car from them. After I told them they had always serviced our prior vw's, all three of them, then they changed their tone and they stated that if the light was no longer on then the system most likely reset itself and it should be fine. I made an appoint to have it checked anyway. The next day the wife drove to and from work, 120 miles total, and it seemed ok, but the turbo indicator has always shown a high reading, even when not applying power. Took it to vw dealer and after examination determined the fuel system was contaminated with metal shaving. They advised that vw has had an issue with the tdi high pressure pump and they were going to have to contact vw to find out what needed to be done at this point. They told us that it would be at least two days to fix it, so now we wait. They did provide us with a vw Beetle, turbo, gas model at no cost. It seems this turbo works correctly on this one.
My engine light came on and the ac stopped blowing cold air. I also noticed a beep sound that would come on when I turned the headlights on but the sound would turn off and on while I drove. Then the alarm stopped working and the interior lights malfunctioned, the radio also gave out and the vehicle seemed to hesitate while driving it. I checked the fuse box on the battery and discovered that the slot where the fuse slips into on top of the vehicle battery was melted and there was something on the driver side headlamp cover like some type of gas or fumes had escaped the battery and sprayed the headlampcover. I changed the fuses around and got the ac going again, then I changed them all out, and everything worked great for about 5 days, then the interior lights went out again, the alarm stopped working, radio is out, the beeping sound is back and when I checked the fuse, it was melting again. I am afraid that while in the vehicle with my children I will have a malfunction and be injured. I just paid off the vehicle. . . What a gift for paying off a vehicle. . . Seems like eveything in and on that vehicle is a hazard and an accident waiting to happen. . Its sad because I use to love my new Beetle.
Severe burned diesel fumes infiltrateing the cabin of the car while driving.
Vehicle has gas fume odor accumulating while inside garage and inside vehicle for over one year. Took to dealer on February 2015 who did a 27 point inspection of the vehicle but still has gas odor.
I bought my 2003 vw Beetle a few months ago from a private seller. In the past week, the shifting has gotten really difficult and it very often will not accelerate easily. My husband drove the car and reported having no problems, so he didn't believe me. Yesterday, I was driving on the highway and couldn't get the car to accelerate past 50 mph. It was especially scary when I tried to cross the highway and the car didn't want to accelerate at all. That could have been a horrible accident. After crossing the highway, I was unable to accelerate past 20 mph. I parked the car at a relatives home and had her drive me home as I was afraid to drive the car again. I started doing research and was blown away by the number of people facing the same problems. This is a dangerous situation that needs to be resolved.
Chemical odor inside car. Recently purchased a 2002 vw Beetle. The inside of the car smells like burnt crayons. It is so strong it burns my eyes and the smell gets in your hair and in your clothing. This cannot be healthy to be breathing. I live in ms and the heat seems to make the smell stronger. I've read many threads with a lot of people on line complaining of this same problem but vw dealership says they cannot help.

We purchased a used 99 vw Beetle; the previous owners were having the same problem as us the check engine light keeps coming on. We have it checked out (diagnostic) and they tell us it show rich fuel. We pay around $250. 00 each time to have it fixed and reset and it last for about six months and it does it again. I was told that there was a recall back in 2004 about a octain sensor. I believe this may be the problem and want to know what I can do to have this fixed right with no charge. If there was a recall sent out regarding this the previous owners did not receive one because they purchased it as a used vehicle as well. Please help this is driving us crazy and this is my teenage daughters vehicle.

Possible gas line leak. Hasn't been officially determined. . But dealership officials are saying that was the cause of a fire in the engine. Driving on freeway when engine burst into flames.
While driving the car I noticed the speedometer & odometer weren't working (mileage froze at 26,139). The gas gauge was not working either. Then the check engine light came on and the airbag light. Brought into dealership and was told there were 19 failures when it was tested on their computer. Dealership claims the transmission needs parts replaced. (will be covered under powertrain warranty possibly). Still waiting on parts. They said after they replace parts of transmission they will let me know what else needs to be done and how much it will cost me. The standard warranty ended March 2001. The vehicle has low mileage (26,139). The battery had to be replaced last year. Many times the car wouldn't start and had to be jumped. The check engine light came on the first year I had the car and the dealership claimed it was a sensor problem.
