Windshield Wiper/washer Problems of Volkswagen Beetle

The contact owns a 2002 Volkswagen Beetle. The contact was driving approximately 45 mph when the windshield wiper failed to function. In addition, the power windows, turn signals, headlights, air conditioner and defroster would not function. The brake and engine warning lights were also illuminated and the contact stated that the failures occurred at the same time. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics or repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

C. 552(b)(6) the windshield wipers in my vw Beetle VIN:[xxx] appear to be engineered for a right side driver vehicle; and, on rotation, the passenger side wiper stops for return swing directly in front of the driver's face, further impairing vision while rain conditions exist. This is an easily remedied situation for the manufacturer.

The contact owns a 1998 Volkswagen Beetle. When the contact activated the windshield wipers, the wiper arm detached. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure. The current mileage is 85,000 and failure mileage was 84,500.

Wipers do not clean windshield properly causing poor visibility.

Headlights will go out while in use without warning. When vehicle is in cruise control mode it will either surge or continue to accelerate. Dealership stated they need to separate the engine and transmission in order to fix the problem. The windshield wiper works intermittently. The dealership replaced the motor but the problem recurred. Consumer noted he has seen a lot of one headlight Beetles and that the problem is widespread.
