Thermostat housing failure. Leaking coolant. Yes it is available for inspection. The dealer has confirmed this is not an uncommon problem, and indicated this can be cause by the seal swelling (dirito bros dealer, CA bar reg# 257857). This issue was found by an independent mechanic during a routine oil change on 10/12/21 there is a warning lamp for low coolant, which is the first indicator, and occurred around sept- 2021.

I call my call inspector gadget because it shifts on it's own. I could be braking and it leaps forward as if I put it in 4th or 5th gear. I heard of gears "slipping" but it is the reverse - it's rev's on it's own and speed increases. I was told it might be the manifold but I can't get that confirmed from auto mechanic and it won't pass smog now.

Vehicle intermittently stalls when coming to a stop in traffic while in gear. Has occurred on multiple separate occasions, but cannot be easily re-produced. When vehicle stalls it can be difficult to restart while in traffic and occurs without warning creating safety hazard. Usually there are no codes stored by the computer when this occurs, but check engine light has been noticed. Vehicle has been brought to dealership 3 different times for same issue. Upon first visit starter was replaced. Upon 2nd visit an oxygen sensor was replaced. Upon 3rd visit no further action was taken and I was told by dealer vehicle tested normal with no further repairs being authorized.

Coolant leak noticed underneat the engine. It run down to the oil pan dripping on the drive way. Took the car to the dealership for diagnosis. They said leak is coming from the thermostat housing. Mileage is now 73700. Vw powertrain warranty covers up to 72000.
Coolant leak from the water pump and thermostat housing. The water pump and thermostat were replaced under warrant. I believe it is leaking again as it was replaced with the same faulty parts and I have noticed a slight drop in coolant and a smell, which was the issue originally.
Engine hesitate, stumble and jerk from stop to the first 5 gears and make whining noise. Brand new car! scary do drive and dangerous. Have the car for about 2 weeks, 1,500 miles.

I noticed a vibration at speeds near and over 80 mph. I took it to the vw dealer where I had purchased and they found the bolts where the driver front axle connects to the transmission output shaft were loose and backing out. They replaced the bolts, but I'm still having vibration in the driveline. I'm worried what other bolts may be loose or what associated parts may have been compromised as this is potentially a very dangerous safety situation for myself and anyone near my vehicle were the axle to come apart at speed.

Tl- the contact owns a 2019 Volkswagen. The contact stated that when the vehicle was stationed at a stop sign, the vehicle stalled while completely shutting off and the steering wheel seized. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was restarted and functioned normally. The riverside Volkswagen 8330 indiana Ave d, riverside, CA 92504 (951) 509-2100 was contacted and the contact was informed that they would try to duplicate the problem. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 40. Dr.
2019 vw gti rabbit edition 6spd manual. Intermittently, when approaching a stop light or traffic stopping, the car in neutral, or with the clutch fully depressed, the engine will stall. The car will restart. Sometimes after this happens, the car will have a strange exhaust sound that reminds me of a car that is running on not all of the cylinders, or has an aftermarket camshaft. If the car is shut off for a short period of time and then restarted, this exhaust sound will disappear. When the car stalls, all power steering assist ceases. This stalling only seems to happen while stopping and is random. Some days, it will do it 4-5 times in a 11 mile trip and some days, not at all.
Tl-the contact owns a 2019 Volkswagen Golf while driving frequently at various speeds and attempting to stop the vehicle stalled when the clutch was engaged. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to low country Volkswagen 1001 johnnie dodds blvd, mt pleasant, SC 29464 (843) 881-8555 who stated the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but did not assist. The failure mileage was 800. Ap.
As I am braking to a stop with the clutch fully depressed (at a red stop light or to make a left turn), the car quietly and completely stalls out and shuts down. The dash lights remain on. I can restart the car. This seems to occur randomly but occurred 3 times yesterday afternoon. No engine check light.
The slave cylinder went bad its poring fluid out it completely failed when the vehicle was parked it has exactly 34,272 miles it should not have failed at that mileage and age I know of 3 other people around that have had the same thing happen this needs to be looked into because its starting to look like a manufacturing problem. This could have been fatal if it had went out completely on the highway since an inexperienced driver wouldn't know what to do since you cant change gears.

I purchased a 2019 Golf gti rabbit edition (urano grey) w/ manual transmission on 2/23/2019. On 2/27, my car stalls when I am stationary on flat terrain, waiting for the green light at the intersection, with my clutch all the way in. I restarted the engine without releasing the clutch. The revs goes up to 800, stays there for a second, and the car stalls afterwards. I did another two restarts after that, which gave me the same result. The way I get out of this situation is to apply a little throttle when waiting, raising the rev to around 1100. This issue never occurred afterwards, but I believe there is a potential defect in power train or engine.
Vehicle is intermittently showing error error: service vehicle, leave only on p. Error happens randomly, but usually during or just after driving in wet conditions. Always while the vehicle is in motion. Gear shift assembly was replaced two years previously to address the problem, but now the errors are back. Same symptoms as campaign number 18v464000, vw service recall 37l5, however no recall is listed for this VIN.

Vehicle randomly displays message on hud screen "error: service vehicle. Only leave vehicle in p position" I have only ever had it happen while driving. Everything from 10mph to 80mph. No particular speed seems to trip the error. After a long drawn out ordeal, both the local dealer and vw of America have denied repair even though, this exact issue because it is not included in the 33,168 select Volkswagen Golfs and Golf sportwagens from 2015 to 2018 model years. Yet with all the evidence to include the ecu/tcu logs verifying the problem since its not a "affected" VIN, they will do nothing. The local dealer confirm that this is the exact issue we have been dealing with since July of this year. Most recently I was going through the pharmacy drive-thru and in park when the vehicle began to roll forward which I had to hit the brakes to stop it. Yet with all the evidence to include the ecu/tcu logs verifying the problem since its not a "affected" VIN, they will do nothing.
Dual mass flywheel failed at 81,200 miles rendering the vehicle inoperable. Failure was 21,200 miles after power train warranty expired. Vehicle was in motion and began to shift very strangely, was able to make it home and park it.

Over time, a build-up of silicate on the shift lever micro switch contacts can make it possible to remove the key from the ignition switch without the shift lever being in the "p" park position. This makes the vehicle noncompliant with 49 cfr 571. 114 standard no. 114 theft protection and rollaway prevention. If the ignition key is removed without the shift lever being in the "p" park position, there is a risk that the vehicle may roll away, resulting in a crash that could injure people and damage property.
Car would not move after a stop and then accelerated rapidly.
While driving at approximately 30 miles per hour the car came up with an alert of electrical fault stop now and the powertrain shut down with zero throttle response. I was able to pull into the right lane and party into a driveway of a fast food restaurant. I was unable to turn off the car, I got out and pushed it into the parking lot. Eventually the car turned off and after a few attempts I was able to turn it back on. I was in "b" mode (regenerative braking mode) and decided to drive it in "d" (regular drive) the extra 2 miles home. This shutdown offered no warning and no "limp mode", had I been in a busier area this could easily have lead to a crash.
While in motion and under power, car suddenly loses drive; acts as if shifted into neutral. Sometimes a flashing wrench indicator is seen in place of the gear number in the instrument display. This is happening increasingly often. At least once per day.

Like many owners of Volkswagen tdi vehicles, the 1-2 second hesitation when accelerating from a complete stop is very unnerving. It can be dangerous when merging into traffic or crossing an intersection. It happens daily and the dealership was unable to fix it while the vehicle was under warranty. Vw updated the software on the transmission but that "fix" didn't last more than a few months.
Cv joints failed at under 38k miles on automobile.
2015 Golf started experiencing problems with the engine/transmission after Feb 5, 2016 on three different occasions. Upon starting car the idle is extremely rough and then a warning message appears that starts out with "transmission. . . " goes off quickly but a highlighted exclamation point remains. The message goes off too quickly to capture a picture of it. The exclamation point and rough idle remains until the car is turned off. When the car is turned on again it is fine. The car is currently at a dealer to be repaired as they state: we have to replace the shifter assembly. I have been told I cannot drive it, that the car has to stay in the shop and wait for a part to arrive sometime next week. This problem is separate from the other problems I have experienced: 1). The right front seat heater come on and heats up to extremely uncomfortable degrees-- dealer says they cannot find a problem. 2). The navigation system goes blank-- doesn't work-- dealer can't find the problem 3). A warning and beeping that the front right seat belt needs to be fastened-- and no one is in the seat, just a cell phone. This Golf only has 10,600 miles on it. . . . Did I purchase a lemon? the date below is the last time the problem occurred. It may or may not have anything to do with it but the car did not have this problem until after the transmission software update was done in February.
While exiting the off ramp of the highway at 1100 at night the car died and I was lucky enough to make it to the side of the road as traffic behind me was locking up their brakes and swerving to avoid a collision. After an expensive tow and finally getting the vehicle to the dealer I was told the high pressure fuel pump had exploded in the tank sending metal into the whole fuel system. I am told the repair bill will cost around $6500 to fix. This car has 54000 miles and I had received a letter from vw stating my high pressure fuel pump had an extended warranty a month prior however vw will not pay for the repair costs. The vw dealer told me they did a fuel sample test and the fuel did not have enough lubrication in it which caused the fuel pump to fail. As I have researched vw has had more than 3500 reported cases of these fuel pump failures and refuses to stand behind the bosch products they use. I also talked with the service station where I purchased the fuel to let them know the pump failure is being blamed on lack of lubrication in their fuel and they have not had one other complaint of fuel issues reported. On a side not I filled my Dodge diesel truck with the same pump and fuel and have had no problems. To me this is a serious problem that vw is not taking responsibility for and if there is not a recall on these fuel pumps it is only a matter of time before someone gets killed because a known bad part that is not getting replaced.
When trying to accelerate from a complete stop, the vehicle sometimes lags then accelerates abruptly or it bucks twice before accelerating smoothly. It needs a calibration update for the powertrain. Updated 09/15/lj.
I had the hatch open on my Golf and started to smell an electrical fire. I seen smoke coming from the cargo light and when I opened the taillight access panel there was a small fire that I immediatley put out. Thankfully I caught it in time and didn't close the hatch and walk away. It could have been much worse. I have pictures I can send upon request.

Whilst driving home at approx 6. 30pm during heavy freeway traffic pprox. T 70mph the electronic drive system of the vw egolf died. I lost all power and was forced to pull across 3 lanes of traffic to reach the safety of the shoulder. Whilst no accident that was more luck than anything else and grace of other drivers allowing me to directly move in front of them. Vechile had code p32b2 and p060c reported by vw report and replaced parts: 5qe-907-070-c and 12e-998-152-a. Dealer would not provide any additional information despite my continued requests in to the cause of failure.
2011 vw Golf tdi (diesel engine). After driving from rainy weather into freezing and snow conditions, the car was parked for several hours in a 50 deg. Garage. When the car was next started, it would struggle to start and stall out. I have read of several issues with the Volkswagen Golf tdi engines and know about condensation in the intercooler freezing, then thawing, causing water to build up in the intercooler piping. I removed the intercooler to engine intake pipe and drained about a cup of water and intercooler. If this water was drawn into the engine, it could have destroyed the engine. This is a well documented issue on several Volkswagen forums. My vehicle is not under factory warranty and does not qualify for any Volkswagen factory updates without significant cost to me.
While operating the vehicle under normal conditions, I heard a rattle from the engine, followed by the sound of something rattling in the engine compartment and then falling out. The engine died immediately and I was able to coast to the shoulder. After the dealer inspected the car they found that the water pump was faulty and it caused the water pump pulley to come off and cause damage to the cylinder head, valves, cover, water pump, and timing belt, in addition to the water pump pulley falling off. The dealer then told me this was a known issue for this make and model and that they had made the same repair to several other models in their service department. They advised there was an updated water pump part that had components made of metal rather than plastic to withstand the engine heat, which was what caused my water pump to fail. Additionally, my vehicle was in for a regularly scheduled maintenance appointment days earlier and the dealer neglected to check the water pump or advise me that it might be faulty, even though they knew and admitted later to it being a known problem with the car.
On 12/24/2012, returning from a restaurant with my family, I heard a bang and my engine died while driving on a city street at 35 mph. I was able to safely put the car in neutral and roll off the street. I found out on 12/26 that my water pump had fallen apart, destroying my timing belt and engine head. Several vehicles with the build date of my car have experienced water pump failures that destroy the timing belt and cause catastrophic engine failures. Luckily, I was traveling at a slow speed when the incident occurred. Vw claims to not know about "a widespread problem. " I was also told that no superseded part is being installed; the same water pump part is being put back. The dealer replaced the head, pump, belt, misc bolts, etc. I am worried about my safety that this incident will re-occur. . Read more...
I have a 2010 vw Golf tdi. I was driving along at 25 mph when my glow plug & check engine lights started flashing, and my tachometer dropped to zero, indicating a stall. The power steering also started to cut out, but I was able to safely pull over. Tried starting the car again and got nothing. The car was towed to a vw dealership down the street, and on Monday 11/19 they informed me that my high-pressure fuel pump failed and sent metal fragments through the entire fuel system. The car is currently being repaired under warranty, but I was told that the bill would be at least $5,000 for this kind of fix. Oh yeah, this also completely ruined my travel plans for thanksgiving, as vw refused to give me a loaner car while this documented warranty issue was being dealt with. After doing some research, I found that there are several cases of 2009-10 tdi fuel pump failures with the same symptoms. Apparently, there have been three revisions of this pump since then, and I am due to get the newest one. But, there is also talk that ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel in the us is not providing the proper lubricity, and thus causing the pumps to fail (this is not an issue in europe). Nonetheless, further investigation by the NHTSA should result in vw doing a proper recall and redesign, rather than quietly fixing an inherent flaw on a case-by-case basis. Even with my car fixed, I'll still be wondering when this will happen again. Which also makes me wonder if I should just sell it and be done with vw. Very frustrating.
Leaving a parking lot, put the gear into reverse and was going forward. Put the gear in parking 3 x and back to reverse 3 x, but still going forward. Couldn't turn off the engine. Opened the door, and after maybe 10 minutes was able to turn off the engine, gave it a minute and then use the reverse gear and it worked.

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Volkswagen Golf tdi. The contact stated that on extremely cold conditions the vehicle failed to start. After multiple attempts the vehicle was successfully restarted. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The dealer stated that water builds up in the air inter cooler causing the engine to hydro lock, the contact could have to pay for a cold weather inter cooler to properly repair the vehicle. The manufacture was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 11,000 miles. Az.
