1 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2022 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 03/17/2026

- recurring intermittent failure of the backup camera on this vehicle. The camera intermittently turns off while vehicle is in reverse. - this has occurred numerous times while the vehicle was moving and in the presence of pedestrians and other vehicles creating a hazardous driving situation due to the sudden loss of visibility. - the dealer claimed to remedy the problem by using a software update, but the issue remains. - the component has not received inspection from any other entity or organization except for the dealer. - the car will often flash warning lights on the instrument cluster associated with all the advanced driver assistance systems. This will sometimes occur during a camera problem, but not always. Unfortunately, I have no way to view a history or log of the instances when the advanced driver assistance systems malfunctioned.

2 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2024 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 10/15/2025

On Wednesday October 15th, 2025 something occurred either via an update or on the back-end of vw's connected services platforms that started causing infotainment system crashes on various vw-brand vehicles across the united states. At this time, 3 days later, the infotainment system will boot up, freeze, reboot again, freeze again, do this 2-3 more times before fully crashing and not turning back on. With this offline access to the following features becomes inaccessible: forward collision avoidance, forward and rear cross traffic avoidance, adaptive cruise control, reversing camera, emergency sos function, road sign detection, emergency notifications, blind spot monitoring, hvac controls including defroster switches, navigation, am/fm/satellite/online radio, apple carplay, and android auto. . 3 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 07/09/2025

The front collision brake assist goes on when there is no obstacle. It has given me obstacle warnings before, but this time it slammed on the brakes and brought me to a stop. This "safety" feature is going to get me rear ended. I have not taken it to a dealer because internet search shows me it is a widespread problem for which there is no fix. I would like it permanently disabled.

4 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2022 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 05/28/2025

The travel assist and sos are not available error chime is a problem that many drivers experience with vw. For my most recent drive, the error chimed and distracted me for the whole duration of my trip and it causes unnecessary stress when driving.

5 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2024 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 01/10/2025

There wasn't a proper "problem parts" option for my issue. My car has a manual transmission and vw has decided that adding a brake hold feature whenever the car is stopped at an intersection or in traffic etc. Would be a good idea. I'm hear to tell you I have almost become part several accidents with this car even though it only has 40 miles on it. This is a well know issue with these cars that has been designed into them. I have been driving manual transmission cars for over 20 years without this issue. The problem is when I come to a stop the car holds the brake for an additional three mississippi seconds. This screws up timing when pulling out into traffic which will likely cause an accident at some point. I have stalled the car trying to pull out into traffic and while in stop and go traffic. Luckily the person behind me was able to slam on their brakes before ramming me. I have considered rolling though stop signs to avoid stopping and possibly stalling the car. There have been many complaints about this online. The problem could easily be fixed with a software update from vw. Realistically if there was a brake hold with only 1 mississippi hold time it would be great or none at all.

6 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2023 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 11/09/2024

I have a 2023 vw Gti with a manual transmission. It has a feature called "hill hold assist", where it enables the parking brake when you are uphill and at a stop, at a red traffic light, for example. The issue is the feature does not disengage the parking brake for about 3 seconds after you engage the gas to begin moving the car. It basically holds the car for too long when you are trying to get moving. This feature has become more of a hinderance and safety concern, than an assistance: 1) almost rear ended by another car as the hill hold assist would not disengage at a traffic light 2) the amount of gas and clutch use while the car is being held in place while engaged negatively impacts the longevity of the clutch 3) in the case of an emergency, I am unable to move the vehicle when I need to - this is most concerning. This function would not be an issue if there was a way to disable "hill hold assist", or reduce the time it takes to disengage, but unfortunately Volkswagen did not include a way to disable or adjust this feature in the vehicle's software. I previously had a 2018 Gti, manual transmission, with the same feature. It was far less aggressive, and it could be disabled if needed. Please consider this a safety concern and address with Volkswagen of north America, as I have made several calls to vw with no resolution. Many other vw Gti drivers have concerns about this feature as well. Thanks, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

7 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2024 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 03/03/2024

Vw front assist is the safety feature that is supposed to warn the driver of the danger of an imminent front collision. Initial aural and visual warnings are followed by autonomous braking if the driver does not respond. I have had my new car for 14 days, and have received the warning "front assist not available; impaired sensor" 5 times during these 14 days. I have taken the car to the dealer three times. Their current verdict is the the system is not malfunctioning but rather the sensor is sensitive to weather. Two times the system became unavailable during misty weather; twice the system became unavailable during sleeting weather; once the system became unavailable during humid weather after a rainstorm. In one instance, the system did not reboot for 3 days despite cleared weather. The outages did not occur during what I would call severe weather, just somewhat inclement conditions. Essentially front assist has not worked for approximately 30% of my first two weeks of ownership. I believe a safety feature that does not work during rain, mist, and sleet is dangerous.

8 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2010 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 11/01/2022

About a month ago, while driving , the abs light, brake light and esp light came on. After about 2 weeks of troubleshooting, a local mechanic troubleshot the issues to a faulty abs module. After many phone calls with my local vw dealership I was able to set an appointment for a diagnostic. They determined " diag abs system no communication advised on replacement module". The module costing $2,886. 04 in parts and labor. With the part not in stock and the dealership saying " no way of knowing when we'll get one in". Over 130,000 vw's same year and model have had this same issue and been recalled but for some reason my vehicle doesn't have a recall on this VIN. Both the vw dealership and vw customer care refuse to do anything. I believe this vehicle like many others were missed or ignored during the recall. My vehicle brakes have been sticking and have locked on me once already in the last month while driving. It is a safety hazard to drive.

9 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2022 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 08/08/2022

I purchased the vehicle base in March of 2022. The sos, travel and parking assist warning lights started coming on in August 2022. I took it in for service. They kept the car for a couple of days because they didn't know how to fix the issue. Finally they were told by vw to replace the steering wheel with hope of this resolving the issue. The steering wheel was replace and the issue went away only to come back around November 2022. I took the vehicle in once again and was told that a newer steering wheel is now available and they will replace the one they put in back in August with this newer version. They however don't have an eta of when the steering wheel will become available. This was back in December when they ordered the steering wheel. It's now almost April 2023 and I haven't heard any updates on the availability of the steering wheel. The warning lights comes on every single time I drive the vehicle and it's to the point of being a nuisance because the lights come on at light 15 to 20 times and each time they come on, they omit a loud beeping noise which is driving me up a wall. I don't really drive the car because of this. Now vw is telling me that my safe and secure subscription (which expired in March 2023) needs to be paid in full in order to continue the service even though vw put out a statement stating that this feature will be free to all vw customers for 5 years. I'm basically paying $79. 50 for April and may then receiving the feature for no charge starting in June which makes zero sense. I am beyond livid at this point and voe to never purchase another vw manufactured product due to all the stress I've endured while owning this new 2022 vehicle (which should not have any issues from the start). Vw sold me a very defective product. I even had to have a new radiator install and the car only has 7k miles on it as of today (3/29/23).

10 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 03/17/2021

My car has, on several occasions, slammed the breaks on while I’m reversing, while suggesting that I am about to hit something, even though there is nothing there. It is very scary because I have no way of knowing when this will happen. Also it turns off the head unit and goes black while I am in reverse or trying to follow the directions. And finally the key sensor keeps saying my keys are not in the car while they are right there (had the battery replaced and that wasn’t the problem) additionally the wipers are dangerous and go off for no reason constantly.
