3 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2012 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

Was driving under normal, dry conditions when I began to get mdi notifications about failed lighting. A total of 11 notifications came across. After much research I discovered the problem. The 30a fuse in the engine compartment fuse box had melted. This is not normal wear and tear. . . . The plastic melted without burning out the fuse. This issue affects a wide range of years and models and a recall was issued just on the tiquan???. It is mind boggling that this is not a recall item on all models as the lack of lighting is most definitely a safety concern.

4 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2011 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 12/15/2015

Intermittent, partial or full loss of of exterior lighting. Warning lamp inside did provide the names of multiple, random lights that had failed, sometimes accurate, other times inaccurate. Lights would fail at random while the car was in motion. Fuse f16 overheated and melted the fuse box exactly as described in NHTSA campaign id number: 13v569000, and vw safety recall 97z9. Volkswagen assured me the parts are not related and that the tiguan recall does not affect my model, but come on.

5 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2008 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 05/08/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 volkswagon Gti. The contact stated that the heatlights do not project for the low beams. The improper aimed headlamps caused reduced road visibility intermittently. The contact used the high beams as an interim fix due to the failure. The vehicle was to be inspected, diagnosed and repaired by an authorized dealer. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 07v442000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Dyd.

6 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2007 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 12/16/2008

There were no specific events leading to the failure, only time. The high mounted 3rd brakelight on my 2007 vw Gti is failing. It's full of condensation, and that's causing the bulbs inside it to fail. When I went to replace them, the owners manual informed me that only the dealer could do so. Upon taking it to the dealer, they informed me that they would have the car several days as they had to dismount several body panels, cut them open, then replace the bulbs and glue everything back together. I was also warned to essentially expect body damage, and that the bill for all this would be substantial. All this to replace a bulb? that's insane, and I felt like that was a poor enough result that most people would deal with the safety issues instead of replacing it.

7 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2007 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 09/07/2008

Rear high mounted stop lamp assembly failed( led's burned out) due to moisture getting in. When asked about replacing the lamp, vw's response is that the old spoiler containing the stop lamp has to be cut off of the hatch. This is a violation of fmvss 108 which requires that replacing the bulbs be simple and require only common tools. The car is less than a year old and they want me to pay 700 dollars to replace a brake lamp.

8 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2003 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 05/04/2008

Noticed a smell as I was driving. Glance out window & noticed my back light was on fire. Pulled over , and tried to extinguish it with a shirt. Almost had it out, but couldn't quite extinguish it. Within 10 minutes the car was totally engulfed in flames. I had to stand there and watch my car burn. It took two fire trucks to extinguish it and I ended up with burnt hands( from melting rubber sticking to my skin) , trying to smother it. How could something like this happen from a back light? I have had the car less than 1 year. It was in perfect condition, with only about 45,000 miles on it. I am out a car, with no recourse! I found that there was a recall back in April 2007, prior to my owning this vehicle. Although , their recall makes no mention of the car bursting in flames! this is a serious problem that needs to be looked into! I am lucky that I saw the fire when I did, or I could have been hurt even worse than I was. I am a carpenter and need my car to get to my jobs. I am out a car, lost a day of work, and now am working with bandaged hands, and the worst thing is. . . I called Volkswagen and got sympathy, and an offer to pay my medical bill, but I am still out a car! are they kidding? this is a serious electrical problem! what if I had my grandchild in the back seat of that car? once the headliner caught flames, it was all over. Flames were 20 feet in the air!.

9 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2007 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 01/20/2008

The 3rd brake like on my 2007 Volkswagen Gti formed condensation and had to be replaced at the dealer by cutting off the spoiler since it was not removable from the outside surface. The process outlined by vw warns of possible body damage during this process, which I also found after the repair. This part is not user serviceable, and is very costly if it has to be done outside of warranty.

10 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2001 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 08/18/2004

I bought a Volkswagen Gti 1. 8t in 2001. It had numerous failures on me. Ignition coil failure, window collapsed sudently, shift is stuck in parking, catalyst converter failure, rear brake pads worned out very fast while the front pad was like new. I am extremely disappointed in Volkswagen. Their customer service was horrible. Allltheir responses were this is not under the warranty, it's normal wear and tear etc.
