Was on the way home driving during rain and snow. Typical minnesota winter. It was roughly 25-30 degrees outside. I lowered window to remove rain and snow before I started driving. Window regulator stopped working and the window would not come back up. I had to drive home with rain/snow pouring into my car. After the 15 minute drive my passenger side leather seats were destroyed. This is a very common issue in these particular cars. There needs to be a recall.

Two months ago my passenger side window broke - it was the regulator (cost me $400 +), that got fixed and two weeks ago my driver side window broke, I have not taken it to get fixed until I checked on recalls but I did not locate any. I am sure it is the regulator and will probable cost another $400. Have any others submitted this issue.

Vehicle is in shop for replacement of catalytic converter and mass air flow sensor, both still under warranty because they are emission control. The culprit for the failure seems to be the coil pack has failed. The coil is not covered under warranty as the car now has 43,000 miles and is outside of warranty, cost is about $800. The coil pack failed and was replaced at 19,000 miles under warranty. Was told by dealer to expect to replace the coil about every 2 years. In addition had the drivers window clips fail twice and the window fell into the door, horn shorted 3 seperate times, the dealer finally replaced the relay the 3rd time it came in and that corrected it.
While driving 2001 volkswangen Gti right side passenger window suddenly dropped into inside door panel without notice. This almost caused loss of vehicle control and it could have caused an accident.
While driving 2001 volkswangen Gti right side passenger's window dropped into inside door panel without notice. This almost caused loss of vehicle control, and it could have caused an accident.
Yesterday, when I went to raise the (electric) window on the driver's side of my 2000 Volkswagen Gti, the window fell down inside the door! fortunately, I was in a parking lot and the car wasn't moving. I hate to think what would have happened if I had been on the expressway. After doing some research on the internet, I discovered that I am not the only vw owner who has experienced this problem, and I understand that Volkswagen has redesigned the window mechanism on subsequent models. (my passenger-side window has been stuck closed for several months. )last year, Volkswagen offered a seven-year-from-purchase extended warranty for problems with the windows on my car. They did not specify what the problems were. I think they should have issued a recall. This is a safety issue! please investivate.

Window regulator failed. Window was down and when the switch was hit to bring it back up, it remained down and made an awful sound, as if the glass was shredding inside. Window had to be taped up and did not get an appointment to fix it until 2 weeks later.
This is a ongoing problem with Volkswagen power windows. A recall should be issued for all cars with plastic power window regulator clips. They are not adequate to support the weight of the window, let alone raise and lower it.
We purchased this car 8/17/02. On 8/21/02, while parked in our driveway we attempted to put drivers side front window up at which point window glass fell down into door panel. We had to drive 30 miles to the dealer to have repaired. The repair was not finished until 8/21. We were not told of any possiblily of this happening again nor that there was an ongoing investigation or any additional complaints of this type. Today, 9/14/02, while again parked in our driveway, while putting passenger front window up, the glass fell down into the door panel just as the driver side had less than a month ago. These are power windows. We again drove car to dealer 30 miles away - with a thunderstorm brewing. This was a Saturday and so the service department was not opened. Numerous sales people made comments that they have seen many vehicles coming in with this problem - they showed us a box of broken clips made in USA from cars already repaired and said the vw was going to replace all clips with metal once made by panzer. We were told that in temps above 75 the clips are failing. Why is there no defects investigation. If this dealer has fixed this many clips already. Also, if the dealer knew there was a problem, then why, 3 weeks ago when the first clip failed, would they not have repaired the passenger side while they were fixing the drivers side. Please help. Nlm.
Parts have been on back order for over a month, this first happened on 8/14/2002 on the right side and them the left side failed on 9/13/2002. Nlm.
While driving and with no warning electric two front windows will fall into window seal, and will be hard to get back up. Dealer notified.

Window regulator failed, causing drivers window to drop into the door. This is a safety and security problem that has been occurring since the introduction of the current model in 1999. 5. A recent survey on the vw vortex website indicated that almost 50% of 1000 owners responding had experienced the problem. If this failure had occurred during the rainy seattle winter during my 40 mile commute the car would unsafe to drive.
While driving, power window on driver's side fell down into the window seal with no warning. Consumer has tried contacting the dealer for the parts on several occasions. After six attempts, the dealer called consumer to inform that the parts had come in. The defective parts were replaced on August 21, 2002.
Window regulator failed, window dropped in door panel.
The window regulator has failed twice on each the driver and passenger side window. The window regulators have been replaced, but the problem persists. I am aware that other post 99. 5 vw's suffer from the problem yet no recall has been done by Volkswagen. ****dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis****760763.
I have experienced four window regulator failures in two years. I am concerned that this problem is not being properly addressed. I recommend an action be initiated to force Volkswagen to recall all defective window regulators. Thank you.
This is the second time that my passenger window has fallen into the door. Please could you put pressure to bear on Volkswagen to rectify this annoying and potentially dangerous problem.
Driver's side and passenger's side power window regulator mechanism is defective which causes windows to roll up slowly and a come of the track. Dealer has been contatced. Please provide further details.
The window regulators are a known problem and Volkswagen of America will not issue a recall. I've had 2 fail on me with in a years time. I now fear the window will not roll back up whenever I roll my windows down.

Drivers side window regulator failed. Window was stuck down. Oxygen sensor failed the next day. The dealer claims this affects every vw. Why don't they fix them. Now I'm out of warranty and I'm sure my other window regulator and oxygen sensor will be going bad any day now. Vw should be accountable for this.
While attempting to roll window down, window stopped about 1/2 way. Consumer heard a cracking noise. Then, window slamned down into vehicle's door panel. When trying to roll up window it would not roll up. Consumer has yet to contact dealer. Please provide any further information.
Both window regulators have failed twice on me all at separate times, in separate conditions. According to hundreds of other vw drivers on the high popular internet forum vwvortex. Com, this is a huge problem to many people and vw needs to take responsibility.
Both window regulators failed at the same time causing both windows to drop into the door cavity.
Power windows failed on both sides - within 6 weeks of each other and on a car only 6 months old! the windows fail in the down position - not pleasant during a ne winter and leaving the car a potential robbery candidate. This is happening all over - time for a vw re-design and voluntary recall on the power assembly?.
This is an on going problem with the new golf's and jetta's that needs to be addressed by vwoa. No safety defect.
This part seems to be failing on cars all over the nation. There has even been a shortage of replacement parts as a result.
