5 Clutch Broken problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2010

Purchased a 2006 vw Jetta tdi, used, with 61,800 miles. Clutch felt weird to me when I purchased the car but thought it was normal. Less then two weeks after purchase I noticed gears slipping. The dealership diagnosed worn clutch disk and damaged throw-out bearing. A properly manufactured clutch assembly should not fail at 61,000 miles, if ever. From what I've read it may be due to bad design of the dual mass flywheel, which over-heats the disk and causes damage. This is a serious issue which may cause sudden loss of control of your vehicle while driving down the highway. Many drivers are not "in-tune" with their vehicle and may not recognize the problem until a serious accident like this does happen. The issue is rampant, and seems it may be inevitable for most 2006 vw builds. . Read more...

8 Clutch Broken problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2009

Mass flywheel and clutch assembly failure. Another Volkswagen clutch problem to add to the list. Why is the united states not doing anything about this like other countries have. Are we not the most caring country in the world, I mean look how much money this government dishes out to people who don't deserve it. (car manufacturers who cant even make good on manufacturer defects. Other countries issued vw to fix the problems. I even read a letter on this website that the problem did not find its way to the us because it was only in the passat. Well the Jetta's, beetle's, gli's and the golf's all have the same transmission that they are referring to in the letter. I mean the government in charge now wants us to be supported by the government so why does the government not do anything to protect us. They are to many cases like mine all over this site and the internet for ya'll not to do something. Took the car in for service then was dropped with the 3900. 00 dollar repair bill for this.

9 Clutch Broken problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2009

Clutch completely failed, as well as flywheel. No warning, just a catastrophic failure. Fortunately, at a stop light, so no one was injured. However, if this had happened while driving down the road, could have resulted in death. Although this failure is occurring quite frequently (in cars with as little as 400 miles on them), manufacturer has done nothing to remedy situation, either to correct it or to come up with a new design. Currently awaiting response from manufacturer, but no resolution to date.

10 Clutch Broken problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2008

My 2006 vw Jetta with tdi diesel engine has clutch slipping after only 48,000 miles. The problem is a defective dual mass flywheel leads to premature clutch failure. This has been addressed by Volkswagen technical service bulletin, and is documented by many cases. My Volkswagen service dealer is not agreeing to cover the repair under warranty. He says the technical service bulletin does not apply to my vehicle. In many cases this defect has led to sudden complete clutch failure. I'm concerned the car may fail at any moment.

11 Clutch Broken problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2008

My 2006 tdi, vw Jetta: about 6 months ago I began hearing clunking noise related to transmission/clutch. On Friday October 17 on interstate highway 35e clutch failed completely. The vehicle has 67,000 miles on it.

12 Clutch Broken problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2008

Clutch failure on 2006 Jetta tdi clutch failed while driving repair of clutch by owner, dealer refused to repair.

13 Clutch Broken problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2008

Noticed very rough idle. Dealer diagnosed manual transmission flywheel malfunctioning without visual inspection. The fault was placed with me. Wear and tear. Dealer claimed must fix, not safe to drive, quoted $2100. If this problem is allowed to worsen, the failure mode is a complete clutch failure and on a busy freeway is a serious safety issue. I went to a third party garage and paid $1200 for a more reliable single mass flywheel. The damaged sachs dmf is available for inspection.
