I've had to replace the low beam headlights 3 times within 18 months and now both low beam headlights do not work even after replacing the bulbs. Vw has had recalls on other vehicles for a similar problem but this make and model was not included in previous recalls. Perhaps the scope of the problem is wider than originally thought.
I have 2009 Volkswagen Jetta 2. 5 and I have problems with my cars. 1) all my lights, except for the left side of headlight, are not working. All the lights went out at the same time. I changed the bulbs but still do not work. 2) since lights started to not work, I get seat belt warning signs and alarms even if I am wearing the seatbelts. 3) when I try to wash my front window with the wipers, window washier(liquid) would not come out.
Dashboard lights would not work when headlights were turned on, including right/left indicator lights. I brought the car into marten's vw service on 11/20/13 in bethesda MD. They reported the fuse box had started to melt and had to be replaced for $580. It is no longer under warranty. This seems to be a flaw that online research has shown. The vw technician said "it is a problem with these cars". He said the new fuse boxes are made differently now. Shouldn't this have been a recall item?.
The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the headlight was defective. The dealer diagnosed that the main fuse box melted, causing five exterior lights to become defective. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 79,000.
