1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2025

When you turn on the vehicle, the abs and traction light illuminates. The light that says "brake" also illuminates and the vehicle beeps 3 times. When driving the vehicle, the red light "brake" flashes constantly, while the abs and traction control light remains illuminated but no flashes. The dealership says it's a fault abs module and hydraulic pump assembly. I researched and found a Volkswagen safety recall code: 45f2 (published March 17, 2017) that seems very applicable to my vehicle. Safety concerns include but are not limited to the following: loss of vehicle control, failure to brake properly, auto engagement of brakes not by the driver, etc. All safety concerns may cause my life or the life of another individual.

2 Equipment problem

3 Equipment problem

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2020

Every time it rains, water comes down im assuming from my sunroof, ive cleaned the drains multiple times, it doesnt make a differenc, the water goes through my fuse box on the driver side fuse box inside the car like a white water rapid and collects in the floorboard. It blows all of my fuses, it also blows out my headlights, brake lights, and turn signals. Not to mention the mold that must be growing in the car from all the water. I tried contacting Volkswagen but they wont do anything. . Eventhough ive spent who knows how much money replacing all those bulbs and fuses. Plus the damprid containers ive bought to help dry everything up, and the cleaners, the air freshners, the cost of vacuuming all that water up. . Also my doors wont lock, I cant control anything in the car with the drivers side controls, cant open my trunk with the switch by the drivers seat. This has changed my whole opinion of Volkswagen vehicles. . I used to think they were really good cars, not anymore!.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2019

Trunk wiring harness has short curcuit will not open . Dealer recommend remove and replace trunk wiring harness.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2019

Airbag light went on about two months ago. I know that many vws, including 2010 Jettas like mine, were subject to recall for clock spring. I believe my car should be included in that recall and this should be fixed free of charge by vw. Called dealership and they said it's not and that I'd have to pay the $125 diagnostic fee to have it checked out. Have read many stories of how you are receiving my complaints from vw owners about this problem. Recall needs to be expanded. Light is on all the time. Called vw customer care and they could not have been less helpful. Called yesterday and asked to speak with a supervisor. They said there no supervisor would be available until the following afternoon. Please expedite I'm very concerned about my safety and driving this vehicle. Have been loyal vw customer since 1998 but given this experience and the company's recent ethical malfeasance, am not surprised the company is struggling to stay afloat.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2019

I am truly not sure. It is going into the shop tomorrow. Although, I just purchased it used, and when I park it on a hill. It makes this odd sound as if the body is going to fall apart? I smell a burning metal smell as well. It was parked on a hill so it was stationary, just not sure what it is. I know it is used but I only had it for 1 month!.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

Vehicle was being driven down the highway when the vehicle suddenly went to neutral almost causing multiple crashes attempting to move over to the side of the road as it was impossible to accelerate. It had to be towed to a Volkswagen dealership as it was not possible to drive and was told the mechatronic unit has failed and have been quoted $2,360. This is a complaint because there was absolutely no warning or concern if this becoming an issue and the failure of this device could have cause serious injuries.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2019

Sunroof exploded while traveling 70 mph on highway. No nearby vehicles, no obvious source of impact. Sunroof was in the closed position. Glass mostly contained above sunshade (which was closed) but some fell through air slots at the front. Very loud bang, like a gunshot when it exploded. Outside temperature was 56f, just crossing snoqualmie pass in wa state around 1pm.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2018

Key gets stuck in the ignition frequently! it gets stuck and will not turn far enough to turn on and it also gets stuck where you cannot turn it off! I have to wait several minutes (up to 30 min) to try again to start or turn off the car. This is a waste of my time and I will never recommend any vw vehicle ever again!.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2018

With the automatic transmission in drive the key can be removed from the ignition. It has been this way for years. A few years ago the car rolled back into a driveway wall causing some damage after departing the car.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2018

My car was stationary. I put my key into the ignition to start the car and at first it wouldn't turn but then it did and started. Drove from work to home and then put the car in park. Tried to turn the car off but the key would not turn. Car was stuck on and running.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2017

While driving anytime that we would slow down or put the vehicle into reverse the vehicle would go randomly in neutral. It was randomly this would happen and became more frequent. Took it to a dealer and they said we would have to have the transmission replaced soon. Right before this their were about another $3,000 worth of issues we had to fix.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2017

Not able to turn key in the ignition. Sometimes not able to start car. Sometimes not able to turn car off.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2017

I was driving my vehicle on the highway around 9 or 10am it was clear and sunny. Traffic was moderate I was going about 45mph. The vehicle in front of me slammed on there brakes and came to a complete stop. I was at least 3 or 4 maybe more car lengths behind them when I saw them brake. I wasn't worried about stopping as I had plenty of room but when I went to slow down I ended up pushing my break peddle all the way down completely down to the floor, yet I was not braking than as I got closer I tried to swerve to the left to the shoulder because w were on the far left inside pane the carpool lane. When I tried to turn the steering wheel I seemed to be locked I then tried to turn to the right and again I was locked. So I braced for impact because my breaks were not braking and I could not turn m steering wheel to avoid the accident and I ended up spamming into the back of there SUV going roughly 45mph. My speed never slowed any. My car was totalled spilling radiator fluid all over the roadway. He to be towed . I was essentially rendered hopeless unable to slow down or stop and unable to swerve neither direction so I oul at least avapid hitting the car on font of me. I was unable to avoid this accident that would not have been even thinkable had the brakes no locked and the steering wheel not locked. I was given a ticket for rearending them. I a few months later did a search and found that this Jetta had a recall stating the abs system malfunctions yet I never received notice . I today checked VIN number and now it states no recall. Please help. This accident uas caused me lots of issues. Even today I still am without a vehicle almost 1yr later. I do no have pictures or reports to upload but a state patrol officer did do a collision report yjat is available. I just dont have the money for a copy.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2017

We have been victims of the well known long standing ignition key stuck issue on these vehicles. She stalled the car in the intersection then tried to restart but the key was stuck. Fortunately a couple nice guys helped her push it off the road and I was later able to get the key to turn and get the car home. When I got the car home it took me nearly 30 minutes to turn the car off. Vw has known about this problem for some time but they refuse to fix it. So I'm spending yet another weekend fixing this piece of junk. German engineering is just another way to say collection of stupid ideas. For example they twist the heads off the bolts that hold the problematic switch in during manufacture. No I'm not kidding folks.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2017

Ignition system keeps failing. Car keys get stuck and car won't turn off and having a hard time tuning the key to start the car. Each time the car is parked and the steering lock is disengaged.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2017

Key gets stuck in ignition when turning off the engine. Vehicle will not turn off. Vehicle was stationary with emergency brake applied.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

I purchased a used 2010 vw Jetta in 2016 with 52000 miles. One month after purchase I started having problems with transmittion. I had it diagnosed by vw dealer in July 2017.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, the vehicle had stalled. There was a coil warning indicator that had illuminated. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was driven to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the vehicle needed a software update. The vehicle was repaired. However, the part that the technician repaired had caused other malfunctions to the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 121,000. Kc.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

Drove car to work 0630, stereo worked fine. Left work at 1915, when I started my car, the stereo did not come on, screen was black, no sound. Thought maybe it blew a fuse. On my way home, the stereo started working again, just popped on. As I continued to drive it went off again, but loud a rhythimatic beat started thorough out each of the speakers, sounded like somebody hitting a microphone that was on! I arrived at my house shortly after that noise started (thankfully) and turned off my car. Removed the keys from the ignition but the loud noise did not stop!!! I had to open the hood and pull out some fuses to get it to stop! two weeks after this happened, my car died when waiting in a drive-thru. We had to push my car. My car would crank but not start. Nothing inside the car would work. I called my husband, he opened the hood, unhooked a fuse and it started! the next day my car was dead, had to put it on a battery charger. I'm afraid if I replace the stereo, it too will go out and possibly short out other electrical items in my car. As of now, the stereo is in place but unhooked and my battery is fine. There must be a reason why this is happening too so many people with the same stereo.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2015

Incident occurred when approaching an intersection. Engine died as if the car ran out of fuel. Tried to restart the car but the car would not turnover. It would only crank. Acted like it ran out of fuel but there was half a tank of fuel.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2015

We were driving on a straight well paved road, no potholes or debris, the weather is clear and sunny when our sunroof exploded outward. Fedex driver following behind us stated that nothing hit us, but saw the sunroof explode outward.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2014

I am having a similar issue with my vehicle as in NHTSA id numbers 10660948, 10664166, 10662515 and 10633219. All four of my vehicle's door locking mechanisms have failed. As a result, the doors cannot be opened from the outside of the vehicle. This could be a safety issue in the event of an accident or the need to quickly evacuate a passenger from the vehicle.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

The sunroof drainage system is faulty and leaks inside the car. Dealership charged me $350 to fix (not to mention that now the car smells musty) and suggested that other vw owners with my model of car have had similar problems. I am concerned that vw did not design the system properly and should fund any modifications necessary for existing car owners.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2014

Both exhaust pressure sensors malfunctioned causing vehicle indicator lamp to illuminate and faild emissions test. Quoted $595. 00 for repair work, after repairs vehicle still will not pass emissions test.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

I purchased a 2010 vw Jetta just over a year ago at this point. I loved it at first, it's a clean diesel. Within 3-4 months of owning it the stereo has gone out. Vw has chosen to ignore this issue even though it's a known issue! it's draining batteries, causing electrical and fuse issues which could lead to substantially more dangerous issues in the future. Please help those of us who are fighting this battle. It's 100s if not 1000s to get fixed and it's absolutely unreasonable. . Read more...

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2014

While traveling on I-96 west traveling at 70mph the sunroof which was closed at the time suddenly exploded sending shards of glass everywhere. It sounded like a gun went off in the vehicle. I was very fortunate that the sunroof curtain was closed at the time which contained most of the glass shards. This is a serious issue that should be looked into. There was nobody else on the highway around me so there is no possibility that this was a stone or object from another vehicle. The temperature outside was 92 degrees f and I had the drivers side window open approximately 50%. This was a terrible experience that I was lucky to walk away from without physical injury. However, I will not drive this car again without an explanation! very dangerous car!!!!.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2014

Right rear door will not open from the outside or inside. Now the left front door wont open or close from inside or outside and dealer indicates the door locks have failed and will need replaced at $475/door. The right front door has now started to not open sporadically. This has to be a manufacturer defect when 3 of the 4 door handles/locking mechanisms have now failed. This is a safety issue when you cannot enter or exit out of 3 doors of a car due to faulty locking mechanisms.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2014

I was driving down the street when dash lights came on. . . Within minutes I lost power and eventually my car shut down. My hpfp went out and has sent shards of metal throughout the system. Apparently to the grand total of at least $7500 possibly more. I've been reading and see this is an is with the vw tdi motors I drive a 2010 vw Jetta tdi. . . At this point the fuel system needs flushed and or replaced I'm questioning the condition of the rest of my motor if metal pieces have been flushed through it.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

Owned my 2010 vw Jetta sport wagon tdi 6sp man since new. It has always had an interment cough & sputter that would happen at any speed or condition, but was very infrequent an non-repeatable. Now however, starting at around 85,000 miles, the cough and stall has become more frequent, causes the glow plug indicator light to flash and the vehicle loses power (goes into limp mode?). This used to all reset when turning off the key. The last time I brought it to the dealer, parr imports in bremerton wa, at 89,802 miles it had p0322 & p0651 fault codes. They suspected an intermittent crank sensor fault and wanted me to monitor. It has progressively gotten much worse, I have now lost power in heavy traffic and stalled in the parking lot puling onto the road and have had to switch vehicles when it would not reset leaving the house. I was compelled to buy the torque application for my android phone to view and reset fault codes. I have not reset the ecu faults at least 4 maybe 6 times and now, at around 92,000 miles, it shows 5 codes and won't reset: p0322: ignition/distributor engine speed input circuit no signal, p2127: throttle/pedal position sensor/switch e circuit low input, p0193: fuel rail pressure sensor circuit high input, p0651: unknown code - more information may be available on the web, p0300: random/multiple cylinder misfire detected. My internet research suggest the high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) may be an issue with vw blaming it on gasoline contamination, however I have records and receipts confirming I always fuel with diesel from a major distributor.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2013

7/6/13 ac not working at all. All major components of the ac-compressor and drier- were replaced 7/18/2013 by vw. Ac worked fine for rest of 2013 season. May 2014 delayed/intermittent cooling in las vegas, nv. 6/18/14 took to vw in henderson, nv and told that there was a leak in the system. Warranty is 12 months/12k- 16+k miles put on car by the time I took it to vw in 6/14-therefore no warranty. Vw recharged system and cool/cold air blowing when temperature outside is under 105 degrees. When outside temp is 105+degrees- ac cuts in and out-2 min on/10 off/repeat. Took it to vw service for ac diagnostic on thurs 8/7/14 at 10am and got the car back 8/8/14 at 4pm. Vw saying that the whole ac unit needs to be replaced-ac compressor, drier, condensor, receiver, accumulator. Vw of America was contacted and regional manager will not assist with cost of repair-$2300. Reason: the car has 93k miles on it. An ac system should last longer than 3 1/2 years (car bought 12/09) and then when major components replaced-ac compressor- they should last longer that 10 months regardless of how many miles was put on the vehicle. The ac in the vw cars have a known problem with the compressor, refrigerant control valve, and fans. See the vw forums for the number of complaints on the ac system. Vw needs to be investigated.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2013

I am a 51 year old disabled man with full time custody of my 2 kids. I drive a 2010 vw Jetta tdi clean diesel bought slightly used with 38000 miles on it and just after the emissions warranty of 80000 miles ran out the diesel particulate filter failed on the car with under 88000 miles on the car and it's a $2400. 00 repair. I filed a complaint with vwoa and after investigating they paid 100% parts and labor on the repairs. But 3 weeks later the same parts fail and another call was made to vwoa and I told them the same parts failed that were just installed and they refuse to supply the parts or labor to fix the car instead they are sending me a letter that they refuse to fix a $2400. 00 emission problem and I will have to file for a emissions waver from the CT. Dmv . So my 2010 vw clean diesel will not pass it's first emissions test instead with the dmv waiver I will legally spew smoke and soot out the tailpipe of my vw clean diesel and after reading many vw tdi enthusiast forums there are lot and lots of other people with vw's with the same problem. So there is nothing clean about Volkswagen's clean diesel stay away from buying one.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2013

Persistent problem with driver's side rear door lock - cannot alwayslock/unlock door with fob. Also sometimes all doors would lock when you exited the car, other times it would not. Sometimes the fob would unlock all doors other times only the driver side door. A child was secured in the back in a car seat and the fob sould not unlock the door so I could get the child out - had to use the door on the other side of the car. Dealer replaced the door locking mechanism on the rear door. Same problem re-developed on driver side front door at 70,000 miles - again dealer replaced door lock mechanism on that door.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2013

This 2010 vw Jetta tdi occasionally stalls at speeds of less than ~30 mph and surges violently when starting from a stop and slowing to a stop. In a span of 3 months the vehicle has stalled 5 times, 3 times while beginning to move from a stop and 2 times while traveling at a speeds of less than 30 mph. The surging happens frequently but inconsistently. The vehicle has been brought to a vw dealer/mechanic to address these issues and the problem persists. The last time it went in to the dealer, the mechanic replaced the flywheel stating that it was the reason for the surging, however the stalling and surging remain a problem since the flywheel has been replaced. The vehicle has an automatic transmission and has never been filled with gasoline.
