1 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2025

On October 17, 2025, I was driving my 2014 Volkswagen Jetta at approximately 25–30 mph on the bypass in muscatine, iowa. Another vehicle cut into my lane and struck the front driver-side of my car. My vehicle suffered significant front-end impact, including wheel/tire damage, bumper and fender damage, and visible suspension impact. During the crash, the driver-side airbag did not deploy, even though the impact was directly to the front driver-side area where the crash sensors are located. The airbag warning light did not come on before or after the crash. Because the force of the impact was strong enough to damage the front wheel, suspension components, and bumper structure, I believe the airbag system (airbag module, front crash sensor, or related wiring) failed to detect the crash properly. A collision at this speed and angle should have triggered airbag deployment. This failure put me at risk of serious injury. I am reporting this because the airbag system did not function as intended in a front-end collision, and I am concerned there is a defect affecting the airbag deployment sensors or modules in this model.

2 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2024

During this summer (2024), I got a warning with three beeps then warning lights came on, went off for a several months, and now have come on and stayed on (abs, traction control, brake, airbag, tire pressure). This has to be an issue with vw. There was close to 63,000 miles on the car at the time. Now there's only 64,000 miles on the car. The dealer service center couldn't really determine the cause but still quoted a repair of nearly $4,000.

3 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2024

The contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the driver was driving 46 mph while turning left when another vehicle crashed into the driver's side of the vehicle causing the vehicle to spin approximately 3 - 4 times before coming to a stop in the middle of the road. The driver had exited the vehicle right at the time it had stopped spinning. No air bags had deployed. The vehicle was towed and deemed totaled. A police report was filed. The driver had received injuries to their right leg, however, no medical attention was needed. The dealer had not been contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

4 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2023

The contact owned a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, she was involved in a multi-vehicle accident pileup after a utility truck that was two vehicles ahead of her suddenly braked. The air bags had failed to deploy. The contact's daughter did not require medical attention but had sustained a headache from the impact. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed totaled. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 121,640.

5 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2022

2014 Volkswagen Jetta gli. Part number 5k0953569al air bag clock spring failed leaving air bag and horn unusable. Dealerships say this is the most back ordered Volkswagen part. Many wait lists have several thousand people waiting with no end in sight. No one can provide a ship date. These cars cannot legally be on the road and cannot be sold back to a dealership because they won’t pass inspection. This part has been involved in a recall previously with the same issues, but not all affected cars are covered under the recall. I am personally unable to find a solution and my car has been unusable and unsafe. When I realized how normal and not unique my exact situation was, I felt the need to report this problem on behalf of the tens of thousands of people who are without safe vehicles, including myself. I am hoping that the recall can be extended to these other cars desk with the exact same clock spring issues so that we can be provided with solutions that can get our cars back on the road safely. Thank you for your time.

6 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2022

Vw said it is the abs module. It appears they had this same problem in a previous recall. Safety recall 45f2 - abs control module software certain 2009-2010 model year Volkswagen vehicles they said any or all of the of the components represented by the warning lights may not work. With abs, traction control, brake & airbag potentially not working that could harm me & my occupants as well as other drivers on the road the component has not been replaced yet as it has taken 4weeks already for the part to come in. It is scheduled to be replaced 3/28/22 I got a warning with three beeps then warning lights come on & stay on (abs, traction control, brake, airbag, tpms).

7 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2021

Air bags failed to deploy on my 2014 Volkswagen Jetta. I hit a guardrail head on at 50-60 mph pushing it 8 feet back. I sustained a large laceration on my forehead eventually needing 6 staples and 6 stitches to close it up. My passenger got abbrastions to her head from hitting the window. Which is now cracked and broken throughout. The air bag light came on my dashboard but no air bags were ever deployed. Having just bought this vehicle 6 months ago from a dealership and them verifying that everything was in working order has me wondering what to do about this? $18,000 for a trip to the e. R that night. Needless to say I'm pretty disappointed and know that if the airbags would have properly went off it would have made things alot easier!!.

10 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2018

A few weeks ago, I reversed (at an angle) into a parking spot and the steering wheel started making a clicking sound. The sound ensued when making any turns with the vehicle. One day, while parking, the steering wheel clicked and there was a snap sound. Upon re-entering my vehicle, the airbag error light came on and all steering-mounted controls were disabled. After further research, this issue is related the to the clock spring issue (recall) for Volkswagen vehicles. However, the model and year (jetta hybrid, 2014) of my car is not listed under the recall list. I have spoken with my local vw dealer, and they have basically told me the issue is not covered under the clock spring extended warranted vw issued.

11 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2017

Takata recall.

12 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2017

When my airbag deployed, the vw emblem on the steering wheel popped open to the left and the airbag pushed it into my left arm which caused a burn and my arm to bleed. I know have a good scar on my left arm. If that emblem would have not been there or would have maybe opened downwards I would have walked away with a small airbag burn to the right hand only.

13 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

Defective clock spring. Broke under normal steering wheel operation while parking vehicle at low speed, this in turn caused steering wheel controls to become inoperable and activated air-bag malfunction light.

14 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2015

Forced off road by another driver, hit pole and my face hit steering wheel and head shattered windshield causing severe concussion, cuts/bruises and neck issues.

15 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2015

I was under the impression of buying a good car, when I purchase this vehicle on March 6 2015 I was never inform about the current recall #14v1820000, I purchase this vehicle brand new, even so is a 2014 model, also I took the car for service (June) I think and also I was never notified of a new recall that was issued on Jan 23 2015 recall #15v028000, and then I was never notified about the recent recall issued on Aug 04 2015, recall #15v483000, I would like to proceed and held vw CO responsible for any wrong doing since the vehicle can cost fire and is unsafe to drive, I'm a sr retired and would like held vw responsible for their product and because they sold me a car without disclosing the recalls on the vehicle. I bought the car in March 6 2015 brand new even so is a 2014 model. Again I should be given trhu information about the car status.

16 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2014

The car presented problems in the month of July. Stopping at a red light the car is completely turned off, also the cell phone charger not working, this happened three times unfortunately not had the time to take it to the dealer. No light at the board of any problem warned. Turned off and turned on the car again and went back to work. I made an appointment with the service department told me to take it on Monday, August 4 at 10:30 am, I waited until 1:30 pm. They didnt give another car for go my job. They said they had called the same Volkswagen and they could not find the problem. They gave me the car without solving the problem because it turns off only they fixed the phone charger. The car returned to present problems on Sunday August 31 at 7:30 pm. I started the car and drive 3 blocks / blocks and turn right the car turned off, I found myself with a CO-pilot. Turn off the car and turned it on like I used to, yes it worked, but it light seat belt and air bags began ringing since we had not recognized belts. Turn off the engine and turned on 4 occasions but the problem was not resolved. I had to be with this annoying noise during Monday (labor day). I come back on Friday 5 September to services department left my car and I need a car to get my job but the didnt want to give me when I told her that explain in a paper that there isnot a car for me she asked me to wait a moment and suddenly I got a 2015 Nissan altima, but could handle only in new york I can not leave this area. I call wolkswagen 800-822-8987 because I want come back my money because the car presents too many flaws that can not be fixed and I will not be a victim of an accident in the future. Please appreciate attention to my order. Thanks a lot.
