While cruise control is on and controlling the vehicle speed, the speed setting will sometimes (I. E. Unpredictably and intermittently) increase the speed to the closest 5 mph increment when commanded to decrease the speed to the closest 5 mph increment. I have been able to reproduce this error dozens to hundreds of times but I cannot discern a notable pattern and the behavior seems unpredictable. This is not a new issue but has existed since I purchased the vehicle new in 2014. Example: I am driving and set the cruise control to "on" to control the vehicle speed at 63 mph. I press the button that is supposed to decrease the speed to the next lowest multiple of 5 (60 mph) but it will instead increase the speed to 65 mph. The 60 to 65 mph range is simply an example and the issue exists at all speeds, as far as I can tell.

I have a Volkswagen Jetta gli 2. 0 turbo. It currently has 55,000. I am having a problem on initial start where by it runs rough, sometimes stalls at idle and sometimes stalls on initial acceleration. This started as a 30 day progress of getting worse. Now the yellow engine light comes on and at the same time the cruise control yellow light appears (intermittent). Computer diagnostics were run. When tests were run as a group no failures reported but when run individually 7 faults occurred including cylinder miss-fires and camshaft adj bank 1 intake error.

I was traveling on the highway with the cruise control on at 65 mph and it suddenly slowed down or disengaged for no reason. I didn't think much of it and returned to the same speed and turned on the cruise again. Then about 15 minutes later, when traffic begin to slow ahead, I tried hitting the brakes and had zero braking ability. The cruise did not disengage and I had to pull the e brake to get the car to slow down causing the car to fish tail and almost hit a concrete barrier.
The Jetta does not maintain speed when cruise control is engaged. The Jetta increases speed up to an increase of 20 miles and hour, with cruise control engaged while going down hill.

The cruise control does not disengage when the clutch pedal is tapped or fully pressed. As soon as the clutch is released the car resumes the previous set speed. This behavior which is inconsistent with any standard vehicle I have ever driven creates an unsafe situation if the car is in cruise, approaching a slower car, and the speed is decreases by coasting. Upon re-engaging, the car speeds up and almost caused me to hit a car in front of me.
Trunk lid does not stay open unless it is pushed up all the way, multiple passengers when using the trunk in different occasions were hit by the trunk lid. When traveling low speed on cruise control vehicle speed will be lowered when getting close to another vehicle in its lane but if the immediate car switch lane at the same time another vehicle get into your lane, the forward collision system has a delay in detecting is there vehicle there or may not identify the vehicle joining your lane as a vehicle immediately and may suddenly increase speed as no vehicle was detected and result in a rear-end collision.
I purchased my vehicle new at 19,000 miles the adaptive cruise control system has failed which also controls the autonomous braking, the extra 2500 dollars for this system is useless, and will not hold a re-calibration.
Cruise control errors out when the on or set buttons are pressed. Dash displays "err". Once this takes place the only solution is to totally stop, remove the key and restart the vehicle. This morning was the fourth time this week. Vehicle is now three weeks old and has <250 miles total. It has happened at speeds of 35, 45, 55 and 65 (my normal commute route). While searching the internet it seems this is a common problem and has been known for months if not years. Why are they still placing the defective systems on the road?.
Volks 2012 Jetta tdi. At highway speed of approx 55-60 mph, with cruise control engaged, transmission seemed to come out of gear, engine revved and tachometer red-lined, vehicle began to slow, but obviously not loose power as evidenced by tachometer and high rpm's on engine. After tachometer red-lined, tachometer then began to drop and at about 5,000 rpm, transmission shifted a couple of times and then operation of vehicle was back to normal. Oddly, cruise did not have to be reset and seemed unaware of the event that had just occurred. Entire event occurred in the span of about 5 seconds. Took vehicle to dealer. Service documentation says "we scanned for faults and had a sporadic fault for gear shift control module. Performed test plan and found no problems. We cleared faults. " another service showed the error code with verbiage something to the effect of "lost communication with gear shift control module. " dealer would not replace gear shift control module and stated that if it happens again, return and they will replace. Clearly this is a safety issue, particularly when it occurs on a highway at highway speeds with congested highway traffic and clearly could have resulted in an accident.

The contact owns a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta sport wagon tdi. The contact stated that the vehicle abnormally accelerated. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who advised that the cruise control switch and steering column computer chip needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not further repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximately failure mileage was 7,281.
I purchased my 2012 Volkswagen Jetta approx October 31, 2011. Within the first 3-4 months the car computer system locked up while I was driving. (I was unable to put down the windows, the a/c stop working, engine lights lid up on the dashboard) so I drove it straight to the dealership and they immediately apologized and kept the car for several days to correct the defect. In 2013 the steering lock went bad while driving and we couldn't turn the car off. This happened at 6:45pm after the dealership closed. So the car continued running in front of my house from 6:45pm to 7:30am when the dealership opened. I explained to the dealership how frustrating, physically, and mentally draining that night was. We couldn't park the car in a garage and risk the gases getting into the home so we left it in front the house and had to stay up all night and watch it so no one would steal it. They diagnosed it as a bad steering column. The car sometimes accelerate fast on its on when you attempt to use the cruise control. Now currently the sterling lock is gone bad on the car again. I have contacted Volkswagen and the dealership several times about this part/issue this year and they told me the car is out of warranty and I would have to pay for the repair. A steering column going bad in a car every year is not normal. My problem is paying for this faulty, defective dangerous car. I have invoice and repair invoice on this car dating back to the first few months of owning it. Volkswagen is on a major coverup to avoid a massive recall of several of the vehicles they knowingly are putting drivers at risk.
Unexpected acceleration on cruise control. When the cruise control is set, pressing the 'coast/decellerate' button several times causes the cruise control unit to jump by several mph, I. E. Accelerate. Example: cruise is set at 55 mph. Press the coast button three or four times (car should decellerate by 1 mph for each press of the button), the cruise speed will set at a higher speed, such as 58 mph. This can be observed by looking at the display which shows the speed at which the cruise control is set, as well as the acceleration of the car. This behavior can be easily replicated and demonstrated, though it does not occur every time. This has been observed for the past several months.

2004 Jetta tdi 4 door sedan, it's a turbo diesel. The stalk have to goes to high beam in order for the cruise control to work. This is a defective part, it have been with this car for many years but we do not have time to fix this and it's cost lost of money to replace. The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated she was driving at speeds of 78 mph with the cruise control activated. When depressing the brake pedal to deactivate the cruise control, the vehicle abnormally accelerated without warning. The contact was barely able to maintain control of the vehicle and as the vehicle proceed to travel off the roadway, she engaged the emergency brake and was able to stop the vehicle without incident. The dealer took the vehicle for a test drive but he was unable to duplicate the failure. A diagnostic would not produce any failure codes and there were no repairs made to the vehicle. The failure mileage was 4,850 and the current mileage was 51,035.
I own a 2001 vw Jetta GLS vr6. Since I have owned this car I have had problems with it. I am a young woman in the military and am in full time school, so I don't have the money to run around and fix it as much as I have been forced to do. First my gas gauge went out three months after buying it $600(under warranty) then a month later O2 sensor $300(non warranty). Then it was the catalytic converter$1500(non warranty) wiring system$1000(of course non warranty) windows wont roll up without rolling down again and sometimes get stuck$700(non warranty) cruise control went out$845 (non warranty), windshield wiper motor. . . Stationed in alaska and couldn't go without that $750(non warranty) now my secondary air pump is out and I was quoted $1294 from private mechanic and $1400 from vw. Also the cruise is still out and the windows are doing the same again. I have talked to many people in the same boat I have been in with so many repairs. Is there anything that can be done to stop vw from making faulty parts and charging an arm and a leg? I feel though that if it is brought up to you that my voice will be heard, because when I call the volkwagen customer service and complaints I get nowhere.

The contact leased a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta. The vehicle is a drive by wire vehicle and there is no mechanical connection between the accelerator and the engine. The drive by wire is part of the cruise control. The contact is a two foot driver and the vehicle was not modified. While accelerating, the vehicle fails to move forward. The dealer stated that the failure occurred due to an intentional computer program, which prevents simultaneous braking and accelerating in order to prevent strain to the drive train. The dealer also stated that there was no repair available to prevent this from occurring. On occasion, while attempting to make a left turn against traffic or trying to merge, the vehicle fails to move forward. When the vehicle does move forward, it accelerates at high speeds, approximately 50 mph and can be difficult to control. There have been 15 or more near crashes. The manufacturer informed the contact that the computer interlock between the accelerator and brake pedals were federally mandated. This delay is to prevent a crash if the accelerator sensor fails in the open position. On November 7, 2007, the representative from the Volkswagen manufacturer drove the vehicle and duplicated the failure. The failure continued to occur when driving with two feet or one foot. : the contact stated when driving 5-25 mph on a gravel driveway, the cruise control engaged and the vehicle accelerated. This occurred when the vehicle hit any bump or pothole on 50-70 occasions. : the contact stated while driving 65 mph, the vehicle was pulled over by police and informed the tail lights were not illuminated. The 3 brake lights failed to illuminate in rapid succession and required that the bulbs needed to be replaced in August. The cruise control failed intermittently, as well as, the lighting in the instrument panel by the heat switch. The manufacturer was notified, but informed the contact the vehicle was not included in recall # 06v183000 for the exterior lighting: brake lights: switch due to the VIN, although the problems were similar.

On sept 2, 2005 and sept. 6, 2005, under two circumstances involving quick acceleration with moderate load (two adults and one kid. About 50 lb load in trunk), the engine kept high revving after the gas paddle had been fully released, thus pulling forward hard unintentionally; it kept so doing for seconds, even after braking was applied for the first few seconds, and pumped. It recovered back to normal responsiveness after hard braking for at least five seconds in the first incident and about three second in the second. Another problem is the cruise control never worked since the purchase in 1996.

I signaled with my right turn signal for a right-hand turn, suddenly the turn signal stopped flashing (not the quick flashing & clicking for a burnt out bulb), the light stayed on. Tried the left turn signal and the same thing happened. Kept trying them and would not work. Suddenly began operating. The hazard lights did not work either. After repeated attempts, the lights unexpectedly began working. I continued driving, when I signaled another right-hand turn the again the signal repeated the previous failure. I immediately contacted the auto repair shop that I use and setup an appointment for service three days later. The problem occurred intermittenly between the first occurrance and the service appointment. The service technician could not duplicate the problem immediately but the headlamps would not go to bright. He did eventually have the problem with the turn signals. The end result was to replace the switch: headlam dimmer/turn signal/cruise switch 8l0953513j01c (part #). This is an integrated switch. I have listed the three components separately on the complaint list. This same shop had changed the same switch on an Audi. I do not know if the replaced part would still be available.
I was at a full stop at a red light waiting to cross a busy highway when suddenly. And without warning, the car started accelerating on its own. My first reaction was to push on the brakes harder. This did nothing. The car kept accelerating to such a rate that the back end started fishtailing around to the right. I have a cdl license and reacted by putting the car into neutral. This reaction definitely saved a major accident. The car was doing its best to force me into moving traffic. The next person this happens to might not be so lucky. The car was towed to the local vw dealership. After keeping my car 2 weeks, they still couldn't come up with a plausible explanation for why this happened. They did remove the on/off button for the cruise control, but they can't guarantee me that this is what caused the malfuntion. Normally the cruise control would DE-activate when the brakes are pressed. I remain without a reasonable explanation or repair.
After a casual Sunday afternoon drive ( in my 1997 Volkswagen Jetta ) at moderate speeds I parked the car for about 30 minutes while I ate lunch. I then started the car, pulled out of the parking lot, and put the blinker on to make a right hand turn. I stopped at a light, and while the car was in drive and the brake was on, the car lurched forward with sudden acceleration. I thought I was imaging it, but then immediately the car began racing wildly (like it was going 80mph). Luckily I had my foot firmly on the brake which prevented me from lurching forward into the oncoming highway traffic passing in front of me. I tried to put the car in neutral, but nothing I did stopped the car from racing. Finally, in a panic, I turned off the engine with the key, and put my blinkers on while I recovered from the shock of what had just happened. When the light turned green I started up the car and with fear in my heart pulled forward. The car acted normally for the remainder of my trip home. I plan to have the car towed to my mechanic tomorrow to investigate the problem. Still shaking. Gregory ryan.

While driving at 55 mph cruise control switch shorted out. This resulted in vehicle suddenly accelerating in excess speed of 80 mph. When this occurred consumer immediately turned the key in the ignition to the off position. Then, vehicle started to decelerate. Dealership was contacted, but it was not indicated what caused the problem. They only stated the cost to have the switch replaced.
Cruise control switch shorted and car accelerated in excess of 80 mph, and would not shut down. Only way car would slow down if cruise control switch held manually to off as it would not permanently shut off. Braking did decelerate but engine continued at the same rpm, as cruise control would not disengage.
When the brake pedal was depressed to disengage the cruise control brakes failed. This resulted in a rear end collision. The insurance was not able to prove that the failure was due to a malfunction in the brake mechanism.

For several years the cruise has had intermittent engagement. (when the set button is pressed, the cruise does not engage). We took the vehicle to the vw dealer and they said the cruise module was bad. We did not have $380 to pay for cruise, so we elected to not repair. But one time, without warning , the cruise engaged and pulled the gas pedal down, almost to the floor. My wife was driving the vehicle with my son in the car and she said she is positive did not press any button on the cruise. She was driving at highway speed and the pedal just started pulling down. She shifted into neutral and the engine revved way up. When she pulled to the side and tried shutting the cruise button to off , and even shutting the car off it stayed stuck. After several minutes it unstuck. I am concerned that my car and others may engage the cruise without warning and cause an accident.
My 2003 vw Jetta constantly gets stuck in park longest time has been 45 minutes my car has been into service 3 times and is still rough coming out of park also my cruise control has never worked I only have 6000 miles.
June 24th, while I was driving my four month old 2003 Jetta tdi on the the highway at a 70mph, the cruise control failed to engage. After the car had stopped and began moving again the cruise functioned properly. Two days later on June 26, 2003, while in lunch hour traffic-with a CO-worker in the car the brakes automatically engaged by themselves at 40 mph. We stopped on a dime and were almost rear ended. This occured over 10 times before we got back to the office (we were less than two miles away). Dealership is replacing brake booster and master cylinder and I have requested full warrenty on new brake system from Volkswagen of America. This is a potentially serious flaw that could have eaisly caused bodily injury. I have yet to learn if there is a track record of the brakes failing on the 2003 designs but wanted to begin a documentation record.
Consumer concerned with engine and wheel bearing issues. Wants to know who is going to reimburse for repairs. Oxygen sensor had to be replaced several times. The driver side inner door handle was difficult to operate. The left side axle shaft was replaced because it was making a whining noise. While driving the vehicle stalled. It was later determined that a small rodent had built a nest which clogged the air box. The vehicle stalled again and this time they replace the maf sensor. The cruise control was inoperative.
When activating cruise control vehicle will stay on cruise control and not turn off. Contacted dealer.
My car is nightmare of failures. Cruise control light (dealer claims the car doesnt have one - but you can see it if you use a flashlight at an oblique angle) failure, abs module switch failure (according to dealer) causing cruise control to unexpectedly disengage. I also learned from other motorists that the same switch controls brake light illumination (all bulbs and other signal lights work). Fuel injection module over injected gas causing excessive pressure. Relief valve failed to open causing turbo overpressure to +120psi. Failure caused hoses to blow sending hose clamps as projectiles. This week, the front passenger side window unexpectedly dropped into the door. Dealer has literally taped the window up until a part arrives. Dealer admits to mfg design defect - no voluntary recall. No dealers will voluntarily replace clips until they fail. Volkswagen position is that they know there is a design flaw, but wont replace known bad clips until there is a failure. Window failure could cause objects (stones kicked up by tires of other cars) to hit passengers. Infant / child safety risk. Window integrity questionable in an accident if it fails when driving 15mph. Help!.
Cruise control failure. Linked to abs brake module - switch failure which also caused rear brake lights to stop functioning.
Transmission slips between second and third gear. This problem was first reported to gossett motor cars on 05/06/98, and has been a recurring problem ever since. Cruise control has functioned properly three times and failed numerous times. Gossett motor cars says there is not a problem. .
