1 Speed Sensor problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/28/2014

Going down the interstate at 70mph beside a semi, the car slightly (not enough to take me out of my lane) pulls to the side & ding! ding! ding! 'abs' & 'esp' lights come on & the emergency 'brake' light on the dash starts flashing. No additional symptoms that I noticed on the next 15miles to work, just the dash lights. Upon arriving at work I park & shut the car off. Restart it. And everything appears as thou it was an aberration. No lights. No dinging. From a car that goes nuts when you're simply just low on wiper-fluid, it could be something major like an abs module or 'speed sensor' (from what 100s of other owners say online) or something 'minor' like a corroded fuse. Needless to say, while I'm wincing at the potential repair costs, I'm in fear of & dreading my drive home this evening. I'm glad no one was hurt this time but as we all know, the odds are someone is going to get hurt. Whatever is causing this problem for numerous vw owners is a safety issue. If abs & traction control are mandatory features on a car via the NHTSA, it stands to reason that rampant problems such as vw Jetta owners are experiencing is a manufacturer's quality issue. It's not normal wear & tear. I actually trust the NHTSA to do the right things here; find out what the problem is & make vw fix it. The only other option the NHTSA has is to ignore a blatant problem with the abs & traction stability controls of a mass production family sedan/vehicle.

3 Speed Sensor problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/19/2012

This vehicle is a diesel. As I was pressing the accelerator to increase my speed from a construction zone speed to 55 mph the engine light came on, the car began to sputter and acted as if no fuel was being injected to the engine, as I pulled off the road the car kept running but if I pressed the accelerator nothing would happen, no movement on the rpm indicator. I was able to get the car off the highway via the exit ramp. It started up and immediately the warning message came across the vehicle information screen to service immediately and I can't recall the exact wording but basically saying damage could occur. Car was towed for service. Car was fixed on 4/24/2012 replacing the accelerator pedal sensor and the engine speed sensor. Prior to this major malfunction, the car had died while in traffic twice at a red traffic light, twice while on the freeway. All occasions the vehicle restarted and drove just fine. Vehicle was serviced for routine 40000 nothing found amiss by mechanic. Just recently on 7/12/2012 died @ a red light. Vehicle started up fine and no messages on the screen. 7/19/2012 vehicle would not go into gear after stopping for 20 minutes, turned car off and restarted it went into gear no problem. On 7/28/2012 vehicle again died @ a red light, started up just fine, no warning messages.

4 Speed Sensor problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/18/2008

Instrument cluster stopped working. Vehicle mileage, and speedometer do not work at all. Mileage when occurred 48,800. Every speed sensor was replaced with no change. I have no way of knowing how fast I am going, or how many miles are on my car without tracking them myself. This is a common problem with multiple vw's and Audi's with no apparent solution. I have spent hundreds of dollars trying to fix this problem and still am without a speedometer and odometer.
