6 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/07/2014

The latch on the driver side has become loose. As I was driving over speed bumps, I noticed the door would rattle hard. I pulled to the side and noticed the latch attached to the car was loose. I tightened up the screws and the door was able to close tightly again. A few weeks later, the problem has occurred again. I tighten the screws, but this time, the door cannot close fully. This is worrisome, because what if the door swings open as I am driving? this is a major safety concern!.

After using the fob to lock the doors we noticed the rear doors would not lock. If the car is just sitting the rear locks will not lock leaving the door open to children or would be thieves. We also noticed the rear doors would show they were locked once we were moving, but were actually unlocked allowing the rear passenger to be able to open the doors at highway speeds. Extreme safety issue! Volkswagen needs to address this issue ASAP.

10 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/02/2014

The back passenger side door lock quit working and the door won't lock at all. Anybody can open the door and hurt your child or still the car. I called the dealer here in austin, TX today, and they told me that is a very common problems with the Jetta model and it has happened to hundreds of costumers. The electric locks quit working. This is a safety issue and clearly a manufacturers defect that should be a recall.

11 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/28/2013

I went to press the button on the remote to unlock the. Car, but all doors unlocked except the driver side door. I manually had to unlock car door. When I was inside I shut the door but the car kept indicating that it was opened. The window would not roll down, side mirror cannot be adjusted, cannot open trunk or pop the gas tank. Doors are sup post to auto lock at a certain speed which they no longer lock while driving. The switches on every other door are still operating properly except for speed locks. It is a safety issue because children may attempt to open car door while it is in motion. I searched online for same vehicles that have the same issue. There are several that indicate what the issue is, the wires are to short for the doors to open and close which pulls on them and will cause the connection to break leaving the door powerless.

12 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/08/2013

Doors do not lock, or unlock, random opening of sunroof and door lock mechanism.

13 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/30/2013

The rear doors on my 2009 Volkswagen Jetta tdi don't lock - with the lock inside the door or the key fob. This is a major safety concern as I drive through the city everyday and anyone could just get in my car or rob me. I researched it online to try and solve the issue myself, but it seems like a difficult/expensive fix, and there are numerous posts online about other Jetta tdi's locks malfunctioning. Volkswagen has not issued a recall, but this seems to be a very common problem with their vehicles.

17 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/06/2012

Doors unlock with the keyless entry so I have to manually open the door from the inside- this seems like it is a safety hazard to me. I had three of the four door latches replaced (2 under warranty & 1 I had to pay for) and now the fourth door needs to be replaced. I will have to pay to get it replaced. It seems like this is a known problem why isn't the manufacture paying for it?.

18 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/14/2012

Drivers side door lock actuator failed to lock or unlock the door, alarm horn fails to sound when alarm is activated. Rear driver's door lock actuator failed to lock or unlock the door. The rear drivers door doesn't have an external key hole to unlock door and the only way to open the door is from the inside. In the event of an accident with a child in a child safety seat, this could result in a delay of removing the child from a potentially dangerous situation. The Volkswagen manufacturer/dealership charges between $450 to $550 per actuator. After an extensive search of the internet and numerous forums, this actuator repair is more common than Volkswagen would like anyone to believe. This part is kept in stock at dealerships and they are vague when questioned about the frequency of repair. This appears to be more a problem with newer models. I've owned a used 2003 vw Jetta for over 5 years now and haven't needed an actuator yet.

19 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/23/2012

Once the vehicle is parked, I can't remotely nor manually lock the rear driver side door. Basically, three doors will lock, but the rear driver side door remains unsecure. The alarm doesn't audible, but does activate. This problem happened many hundreds of miles ago, intermittently but has come to a point were I can't secure my vehicle is not 100 % secured.

20 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/18/2012

I have a 2008 Jetta and I started experiencing problems with 1 door. My car was still under warranty and the lock was replaced at the dealership. Then only months later I started having similar problems randomly (the lock would work some times but not others). Everytime I stopped at the dealership to have it fixed the lock worked- therefore they could not diagnose which door had a problem. The lock failed everytime and when I returned to the dealership, the car was no longer under warranty. The dealership said the locks can go bad and quoted me a cost of $400 to repair. After having one door "fixed" only to have another lock fail after months later seems excessive. At this point I have not replaced the second lock. It is frustrating to see a car with four doors have problem with two of the doors! at a cost of $400 to replace I felt there must be a larger issue that needs attention. We keep our car in the garage, the door that is now in need of repair is rarely used. This is a serious issue as the locks serve as the first line of defense in personal protection and anti-theft. After searching on line and seeing others with similar issues, I felt it was important to report this. I trust you will promptly follow up and assist me in resolving this issue.

21 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

The electric door locks on my 2007 Jetta failed to lock or unlock using the electric lock buttons in the doors or by using the remote. Only the driver's side rear door responds to any lock action. The driver's door only locks and unlocks with the key in the lock. This was not due to dead batteries in the remote control. This is a commonly reported problem (as observed by online reports by other owners) and could lead to safety concerns if a person is unable to unlock a door to exit the vehicle, or personal property concerns if a person cannot lock their door.

22 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

Back right side passenger door lock fails to lock dealership said 9 times out of 10 it is the lock module that malfunctions and is very common in Jetta's.

23 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/17/2011

Automatic door locks fail to work. Manual entry must be gained to vehicle and doors opened on all doors other than drivers by pulling on inside handles. Unable to access trunk without grabbing long hanled stick and accessing trunk emergency opening latch through back seat arm rest trunk opening. While investigating for a possible blow fuse it was noted that vw fails to provide a fuse map/diagram for these cars in the owners manual and on the back of both the underhood and in car fuse panels. Vw explains this away in the owners manual on page 324 as a decision they made due to the " constant ongoing development of the car" beyond the issue with the locks I believe that failing to provide the owner of the vehicle with the fuse maps could have poetential ramifications as an owner may be unable to solve a simple technical fault on their vehicle thus hazarding themselves and others. Inspection and changing of fuses is owner level maintanence/troubleshooting and Volkswagen should be made to provide that information to owners. If you web search vw fuse diagram or map you will see hundreds of complaints. Thanks for your time.

24 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/06/2011

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta tdi. The contact stated that the passenger side door lock failed to engage. The contact mentioned that all of the other door locks became defective over time. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the door locks needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 84,000.

25 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/15/2011

Back doors randomly lock and won't unlock as well as remain unlocked and won't lock. This creates concern with personal safety when they won't lock (ejection in car wreck, strangers entering car) and when they won't unlock (ability to get out of car in emergency). This began at about 30,000 miles (two years old) and then appeared to resolve only to begin again at 50,000 miles (3 years old). Dealership tells me it will cost $800 to fix and when it happens with the front doors it will cost $1500 to fix them. This is a safety issue and should be a recall.

26 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

2008 wolfsburg edition Jetta: started experiencing issues with one door lock and the dealer told me that the locks can go bad and need to be replaced, costing $450 for the replacement. After having this fixed, only two months later, another lock started having an issue. I have not yet replaced this lock, but now a third lock is starting to experience problems on the same vehicle. At this rate, I expect the fourth and final lock to start having issues. At $450 for each lock replacement, this seems excessive. On a single car that is kept in a garage, with only two adults (no children) using the front doors, it doesn't make sense how three doors can experience lock issues, unless there was some larger issue with the locks. This is a serious issue as the locks serve as the first line of defense in anti-theft. After searching online and seeing others with similar issues, I decided to report this.

27 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/18/2011

We have owned this 2010 Jetta sportwagen tdi since brand new. Today 1/28/14 is the fourth time we have had to replace the lock mechanism on one of the doors. Part numbers 3b4-839-016-ap (left rear), 3b1-837-016-cg (right front) and 3b4-839-015-ap (right rear) have all been replaced at least once. Right rear latch has been replaced twice - only once under warranty. In looking on NHTSA web site there are 8 other reports of problems with latches in the 2010 Jetta. This is a serious safety concern because most of the reports (including mine) were for doors that would not unlock and doors that would not open no matter what the reporting party tried. Can you imagine if these latches failed in an accident and children sitting in the rear seats were trapped?.

28 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

The outside handles of the driver's door & driver's side back passenger door do not close properly. It appears that the cylinder inside the door does not lock the handle in place so the door does not close. I have to rotate the cylinder with my fingers along with pushing the door handle into place from the outside to reset the device. There was no incident that correlates with this failure. This occurs during each use of the door. In researching, I found that some 2005 vw Jetta models were recalled for this same problem. When I spoke with the dealer, he said my VIN number did not fall under this recall.

29 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/14/2011

While driving the windshield wipers would randomly creep up the windshield and when the wipers got all the way to service mode, all the doors would unlock. The radio would fade in and out and the when adjusting the sound on the radio loud cradking, popping and static sould would come from the radio speakers.

30 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/04/2010

2006 vw Jetta trunk will not latch shut, trunk button on key doesn't work to open and the trunk light on dash states that its open. When went to shut the slamming it really doesn't help, it'll latch when it eventually. The trunk open light on dash will be on when the trunk is closed and I can't open it. Middleton Ford stated that its part of the issue with Jetta's and will not cover it, even though I just bought the car from them two months ago. There should be a recall on all Jetta's to get this fixed and for it to be covered considering its a design flaw of vw.

31 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/11/2010

Vw Jetta tdi 2010. On four occasions the car has completely died while moving slowly. (5 to 20 mph) everything in the car stayed on. I had to turn the key off. Place the car in park and restart the car. There was no indication of any problems before or after the car staled out. Nothing in the car turned off or on, except the radio after I turned the key to the off position. Also while driving door locks started to click open and closed at 65 mph. After 10 min of random clicking the doors locked and stayed locked. Airbag light came on while driving. The light went back off after 20 min or so. Has not come back on. Transmission is generally smooth, however at random it is very abrupt, even during gradual or steady acceleration/deceleration. Car has only one driver. Has only ever had correct fuel. Various other electrical problems began at 300 miles. All problems are random. Vw continually dismisses me. It is going into shop again on Monday. From the sounds of it they do not expect to do anything to fix the car. Just drive it a few days and see if a problem happens. Car has put me in the middle of intersection with no control.

32 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

The car doesn't recognize that the door is open. The interior lighting does not come on and the notification that the headlights remain on is not functional. This has left me with a dead battery twice. Also, the car alarm rearms itself if the engine is not started within 30 seconds. I believe this is a safety issue in that the lighting is not functional which is a security concern at night.

33 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/08/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the headliner fabric detached, which distorted the contact's vision whenever the vehicle was being driven. In addition, the doors would only unlock manually. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated continuously and the horn would not activate when engaged. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

34 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

Remote control door locks. Since I purchased my 2010 vw Jetta tdi as a new vehicle, the remote control key has randomly not functioned properly to unlock the doors or trunk. The problem is not due to rfi. It can always be immediately corrected by using the manual key to unlock the vehicle, which seems to reset the locking system and allows the remote key to unlock the doors or trunk remotely. I have brought this to the attention of the dealer at every visit. The dealer has looked into it, been unable to replicate the problem, has reprogrammed the locks. It continues to be a random problem that I myself can't predict or replicate on demand, but want others to know about this annoyance.

35 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/11/2010

Bought used Volkswagen Jetta turbo. After one year of perfect functioning, the interior lights and air conditioning have totally stopped functioning. Mechanic can't figure it out. Additionally, trunk latch would not latch upon opening trunk.
