I purchased a 2001 New Beetle GLS turbo with 42k miles on it in 2008 for my teenage daughter. I have had this car garaged, oil changed, and have only put 8k miles on it in the three years I've owned it. At my most recent oil change, I explained to the vw dealership of the transmission issue which they brushed off as being the way vw transmission's do in and that they are not smooth running transmissions. During this 8k miles, I have went through two new batteries until the dealership made me aware of the need for a new alternator. After getting the new alternator fixed this week at the tune of $500, the tech informed me the transmission needed replacing at a cost between $4k-$6k. I had been noticing when I stop and then accelerate again, the engine hesitates and then slings forward so fast the tires will bark. It's hesitation almost cost me a rear-end accident not long ago. Thankfully, everyone was just shaken up a bit. I have also had to replace the cabin air filter when it disintegrated and started blowing filter in her face as she was driving. All these repairs in the 8k miles I've put on it. The car at this moment now has only 50k miles and sits in my garage as I am afraid for my teenage daughter to drive it because of it's unreliability and safety issues. Also, the console has broken, the clear coat is pealing off the interior doors, handles and dash. Please help us because there are alot of people that depend on the vw's and cannot afford new, safer cars.

The contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen New Beetle. The contact
stated there was a foul, overpowering odor in the interior cabin. The contact stated he and passengers have suffered severe headaches after riding in the vehicle for an extended time. The dealer attempted to perform deodorization treatments to the vehicle but to no avail. The contact performed research on the odor in the vehicle and believed an asphalt based chemical was used to reduce the noise in the vehicle and was causing the adverse odor. The manufacturer advised that the the chemical was reacting to the plastic used in the cabin one remedy was to have all the plastic removed. The contact did not believe that to be an adequate repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were approximately 30,000.

Dear madam / sir,
two days ago I had and accident with my "2008 and still under warranty car". I dropped the car at the rockville, MD official dealer, then I called the insurance company and my insurance agent. The three (agent, insurance inspector and dealer) inspected the car and approved a $1,440 spending to fix it. Since I got surprised; I asked the reason of the very low repairing labor and parts exchange costs of a sub-frame vw part # vw1j0-199-313-m (large steel part to supporting the engine, suspension and transmission), transmission oil pan part #vw09g-321-361-a (place where the oil transmission is keep), and a center shield engine-transm axle a large and heavy underbody protecting metallic part. They said these days it is a common rule to recycle used parts from similar vehicles, and low costs of the "used parts" utilized to fix my car (no matter the key role of the parts). At this point I am asking myself:
what about safety? in any way? not only used parts from other cars have not quality inspected, even worse I guess this practice encourage the cars stilling. Are we all (customers) aware of this?, is it any ". Org" or ". Gov" organization which regulates these used parts market? are we protecting our safety? can we as a customers complaint somewhere about this?
please give me your opinion. Thank you so much.

I was driving on a paved road on my way to work. My car was making an awful grinding noise, so I was taking it easy and made a note to take it to the dealer very soon. I heard a jingling noise, like something metal falling. It repeated a second time. 100 yards down the road, my car started making a hard clunking noise. It felt like a flat tire. I pulled off and inspected the tires, which were fine. I looked underneath to see if there was anything suspicious. My engine looked a little low, but I didn't know how low was normal. The tow truck arrived and said my engine fell out. The bolts supporting the engine had sheared off. The vehicle is only two years old with under 30k miles on it. I've owned it for a year. I have never hit anything, gone off road, or bottomed out in the vehicle. Nothing at all that would have caused this to happen. The dealership is insisting that I had a collision and refusing to pay for repairs.
Large puddle of water accumulates in rear passenger footwell after a heavy rain. I do not have a moonroof so there are no clogged drains there. All drains have been clear in the doors and under battery and pollen filter. I have concluded this is a design flaw as hundreds of other posts online with vw's seem to have the same problem which is not covered under vw's warranty.

After any rain on my non-moving 2003 vw New Beetle water collects under the driver's seat floor pan causing the car to stink and mold to grow. I have tried numerous times to clear the sunroof drain with very limited success. The problem persistently returns.

2001 brand New Beetle started developing stains on the seat from day one. Blue jeans and dark sweaters stain the interiors to that color everytime someone sits down in the car. The throttle body has gone out three times, costing me over countless dollars in repair fees and is now out for the fourth time. Crown Volkswagen in tyler, TX has repaired it each time, the longest repair lasting about four months. They've paid for the repair once, but do not provide me with a replacement rental vehicle, refuse to pick up the phone during the day or return phone calls, and has cost me tons of time and money traveling from dallas to tyler to check on the car and pick it up. Once, I drove two hours from nacogdoches, TX to tyler, TX on the scheduled pick up day, having tried to call before leaving town to make sure it was ready, only to find that they hadn't gotten to the car when I arrived. This happened twice during the same repair which lasted a couple of weeks. They have been uncooperative, and the car is horrible. The arm rest broke one day as I lifted it, it just fell apart in my hands, the interior covering on the doors and dashboard flakes off, the sunroof broke numerous times while driving over a railroad track to get to work everyday. It finally jammed the visor so that it no longer works. The seat moving mechanisms no longer work. The airbag is in constant malfunction, the check engine and eps lights are always on. I constantly have to pull my car over onto the side of the road because it loses power and I have to restart it to get it to work again, although it never has a lot of power. This particular issue has nearly caused several wrecks. I am incredibly lucky. The cruise control no longer works, and it takes about 200 dollars a month to fill it up with gas because the engine problems effect the fuel efficiency.
Headliner separates from formed sub composite. Failure is a day to day problem. Headliner droops into interior of car. Manufacturer will not acknowledge because of current age of vehicle. We safety pin up the headliner to sub structure in hope that it will not fall in front of us as we drive this car on a daily basis.

Went in for routine oil change and when drain plug was removed from oil pan the threads fell out. Tech. Was able to put in oversize drainplug but stated I will need new oil pan (estimated at $430) upon next oil change. Tech. Stated this has been occurring on 1999 New Beetles and he has seen a service bulletin this.
While driving srs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. The consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic determined that the air bag sensor needed to be reset, and reset it six times. However, the problem recurred. The seat latch was broken and the rear console was falling apart.

When opening and closing the door window catches on the convertible top. As a result, driver has to close the door three to six times before it is completely closed. This problem caused wear to the soft top. The armrest would not secure and the window would intermittently roll down by itself.
The roof cover is falling down. The glue that is use to keep the cloth attached to the roof is very poor and after 3 years it will start to fall down. I have 2 identical vw beetle's and they both suffer from this problem.
The vehicle had inadequate ground clearance. As a result, the front portion of the engine splash shield scrapes on the upper surface of the concrete stop.
