Warning Light On Problems of Volkswagen New Beetle

When the engine was started, the air bag warning light illuminated on the instrument panel and stays illuminated until the engine is turned off. The seat belt light goes off after the car is started even when no seatbelts are put on. The VIN was not included in recall 08v178000, although the failure symptoms seem similar.

The contact owns a 2005 Volkswagen New Beetle. The contact stated that the air bag sensor warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the driver side seat belt assembly was replaced at a cost of $338. The manufacturer was contacted who stated there were no recalls or warranty for the repair and they would not cover the repair costs. The failure mileage was 15,000 and the current mileage was 31,500.

I purchased a 2001 vw beetle new and I have had to take it to the shop 4 times due to seat belt warning light. This seems to be an on-going problem even after vw made a recall and supposedly "fix" the seat belt problem. This very first time this happened the car had less 1500 miles on it.

For the fifth time in 10 years, the airbag warning light has come on in my 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle (less than 50,000 miles and never in a crash). According to manufacturer when the airbag warning light is on the airbags are deactivated providing no protection in the event of a crash. Dealer has twice previously replaced driver side airbag harness and recommends doing so again.

Dealer performed recall on crash test sensors on 2004 New Beetle tdi, on the way home airbag warning light comes on, vw wants us to pay over $1000. 00 to repair.

Air bag warning light - the light went on immediately after I adjusted my seat. I do not know if I have functioning air bags or an idiot light malfunction. I own 2001 vw New Beetle. As I understand it, this issue happens a lot with vw jettas and New Beetles 2000- 2004. There is a forum named freds tdi where you will note several complaints and issues. Apparently you cannot just clear the faulty code. Vw should make sure these devices are not malfunctioning. If the code was erroneously cleared the driver/passengers would be unaware if air bag is operational.

Illumination of air bag warning light was repaired under factory warranty. Came on again 1 week later and a crash sensor was replaced, again under factory warranty. Came on again about 3 weeks later and was charged due to expiration of factory warranty even though it has been an ongoing issue with this manufacturer.

Defective door latch ,,,safety issue because the warning light does not come on when you open door. I have two 2002 vw beetles and they both have non working warning lights due to defective latches, also airbags don,t work due to fault. Both problems are very common, but vw doesn't do anything about it. Also when you call the dealership parts department these latches are in stock due to high rate of failure. There should be a recall on the door latch, this is a safety issue. Also the air bags need to be recalled. The vw dealer wants 450. 00 to replace the door latch, and the airbags start at about 800. 00 so most people will be driving around without this safety equipment. Please make them stand behind there product . Thank you.

I purchased a used 2004 vw New Beetle convertible from Toyota of orange, orange, CA this year, January, 2006. Within a week of the purchase, the airbag warning came on. I talked to the sales manager, bill about this in person. . . (concerned that the safety check was not thorough), and he was not the least bit concerned and told me that since the mileage was only about 25,000 that it was covered under warranty. I took it to mckenna vw in huntington beach, CA for the repair/replacement of sensor. The light was off when I picked it up but then came on again only one month later. This time I took it to fladeboe vw, irvine CA. A part had to be ordered for another sensor, so I returned after the part was in and had it placed mid-March, 2006. It is now April 2006 and the airbag warning light is on for the 3rd time since the car was purchased 3 months ago!! help!!.

Air bag system has been defective since delivery of the car. The air bag warning light came on with in days of purchase, the car has been returned to the dealer for repair on at least 5 occasions, has been in the shop for the past 2. 5 weeks and they are saying it may be as much as 3 more months before the problem can be resolved because of a software problem with the air bag system. If this is true then all the 2005 vw beetles would be affected by the same safety issue.
