The timing belt is terrible on this vehicle. This is the same model and engine as the last recall but mine didn’t qualify because it is a 2007 not a 2008. The belt is and chain are completely unstable and prone to catastrophic failure that can happen anytime while driving especially on the highway. This could cause a huge accident. There is also a major issue with the fuel pumps and the hoses. My fuel tank is leaking gas above 3/4 of a tank and can cause a severe fire even if someone dropped a lit cigarette under the car while I am driving.
To start off, this car has common failures of the high pressure fuel pump cam follower. This poses serious risk of damage to the engine when the follower is blown throw and the car goes into limp mode and if this happens on road it could be catastrophic. There were no warnings that this was the issue besides researching videos on youtube while getting a fuel pressure code to find out the cam follower was completely blown throw which means my engine has many metal pieces inside of my engine. If I did not catch this soon the next failure would’ve been the camshaft. The camshaft going bad at and given moment could also be catastrophic on the road and possibly even spark a fire. Another issue is with the timing chain on specific fsi engines. If this chain snaps mid drive then your engine could potentially blow in the middle of the road causing an accident. This problem is known by Volkswagen and they have yet to take serious action in regards to this safety hazard. Another potential for catastrophic events is the wiring harness specifically the one that runs under the vacuum pump. These wires are covered in oil from the vacuum pump being prone to leaking and any fluid that goes on top of it. I also discovered that near my ecu to that wiring harness there was a spot of gasoline in which I was able to determine when I smelt the fluid with a glove on of course. This year make and model of Volkswagen can cause serious harm to those driving especially on the high way. The wiring harness and all components around it soak with oil and when you take off the manifold fuel also gets all over it even when you try to prevent it as much as you can. This has caused increased idle in my vehicle while driving with and epc light that makes the car stall out of no where. If it happened when I was turning my wheel it could’ve caused an accident on the road or even a driver to have road rage behind me. Please help myself and fellow Passat owners of this year stay safe.

The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,000.
My car was driving fine until Feb 2018 after I get it back from getting the suspension redone. After driving it 20 miles my car stops running as I am driving through a major road leaving the military base. I get it towed to the Volkswagen dealership and they state that the high pressure fuel pump had failed (after 2 months of fixing my regular fuel pump) causing the engine to loose compression and now they said I need to pour in a new engine and new high pressure fuel pump and a turbo that was scraping metal shavings into my engine as well.

My car was burnt on highway week ago. All my families were on the car that time. I called the police office, the policemen and firemen arrived and put out the fire in 10 mins. 2 days later, after we checked the car with the investigators from the fire dept. , they found that there are 2 holes on the engine, the oil sprayed out and touched the high temperature area inside the car so the fire happened!.
Engine lost power and began misfiring. Engine light came on. Dealer tells me two days later there is carbon build up and needs manual decarb. Cost is 1k. Engine has run on premium fuel and has regular maintenance. This is a hazardous condition for a very low mileage vehicle.
Oil bolt failure on 3. 6l engine resulting in complete mechanical failure of engine. Cost of repair is approximately $6000 which is not coverd by any warranty. I understand this is a known defect in this engine which vw did not recall, but recognized by making made spec changes in 08.
Driving home while stopped at a traffic light my car felt like it jerked forward though my foot was on the brake. I stopped my car briefly to get dinner, took a phone call and decided to leave. I put my car in drive and it would not travel forward. I put it in reverse and it would not respond. I looked at the display which indicated I should depress the brake pedal, I did. The message disappeared but the car would still not travel. I checked the parking brake button, it was on. I depressed that but it would not turn off. Everytime I put the car in drive the same depress the brake message. I called the dealership. It was suggested I keep trying to disengage the parking brake. "the car thinks the parking brake is on" I have never used the parking brake on this car. It came out of the showroom. Finally the brake disengaged. My second stop resulted into the same scenario. My fear is that this happen while I am driving. I am taking my car into the dealership in a few hours if it will move in. This car has been ideal up to this event.
I have experienced an engine hesitation (or misfire issue according to the dealership) and loss of power as described in NHTSA action # ea11002. The dealership replaced the spark plugs to try and correct the engine faults.
2007 Volkswagen Passat. Engine started knocking so I had it towed to the dealer. It ended up needing a new engine because the high pressure fuel pump plunger failed and sent metal into the engine destroying it. Vw refuses to pay for it.
The contact owns a 2007 Volkswagen Passat. While approaching a stop, the engine began to rev and the rpm needle increased. The vehicle was in drive and the brake pedal was depressed at the time. The contact placed the vehicle into park and turned off the engine. When he restarted the vehicle, it seemed to operate normally. After a few days, the failure recurred. The dealer stated that the cause of the failure was due to a recall on the engine for unintended acceleration. The vehicle was repaired, but the contact was unsure of what was actually repaired. Three weeks after the repairs were made, the failure recurred, the vehicle jerked forward and crashed into the bumper of the preceding vehicle. The dealer was notified and the vehicle has remained there ever since. No repairs have been made yet because the diagnostic results indicate that nothing is wrong with the vehicle. The VIN and recall number were unknown. The failure mileage was 11,434.
When decelerating to a stop, the engine revs more than normal. The failure occurs intermittently. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The speed was unknown. The current mileage is 4800 and it happened at 4780.
No throttle response, long accelerator pedal repsonse from a standing start or rolling start. Trying to move into traffic is dangerous, press on the pedal even floor it and nothing happens, stuck in the middle of an intersection coming into traffic, then eventually, all 280 hp come on and the car almost gets out of control if turning. This happens all the time. This is a new car, I have had the car since 4/14/07 and finally taking it to the dealer next week to see what they can do.
On start-up, engine trouble lamp comes on, sometimes steady sometimes blinking. If blinking, vehicle misfires, engines shakes violently. Submitted to vw, inc. -owned dealership repair facility on 4 occasions for same problem. Vehicle has been in repair facility for 15 of the last 30 days. Vehicle purchased 01/2007 and to date has been driven 6,500 miles. Dealer repair rep says vw cannot identify source of problem, and has no idea when the repair will be completed. Dealer denies that any TSB has issued.
