4 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2019

I had turned my car on and noticed my airbag light had come on and all my controls and horn had stopped working. This is a major safety issue. I took it into a repair shop and they showed me a recall that happened in 2015. The recall said the airbag clock spring may fail and that this could effect all controls, including the horn. (NHTSA campaign number: 15v483000) they asked me to look into this before fixing. So, I called the Volkswagen service center to check, and unfortunately my car was not covered under this recall, even though it says 2012-2014 Volkswagen Passat the cost of this happening to my car is over $800. 00. Nothing I did to make this happen, it just happened. I am baffled that this was a recall in the past and only covered a certain amount of vins. Clearly, my car and others (based off of the other complaints I have read) are having this same safety issue that Volkswagen is liable for but not taking it into account. I am very upset knowing they will not cover this cost. What is the point of having a recall if they only fix a fraction of the cars? very disappointed.

5 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2019

The problem I'm having with my 2014 Passat is that one day out the blue my airbag light came on. I parked and turn of the car thinking that would solve the problem. When I started my car back up, the airbag is still on and now the horn and also the buttons on the steering wheel isn't working anymore. I have not hit anything or had any accidents period. I see many complaints from vw owners about the same issue. . . . But I don't see any recalls about this problem. This is a big issue for me because I live in illinois and my car horn doesn't work.

6 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2019

Yesterday, as I was turning out of my driveway, I heard an unusual clicking noise coming from my steering wheel. I drove to work (approx 2 miles from my home) and parked car. When I started my car 8 hours later, my dash screen read "error airbag" and the airbag light was on. The clicking noise is still present but doesn't occur every time I turn the wheel. . . Only sometimes. This morning,(error light still illuminated) as I was pulling out of my driveway, I noticed my control functions on steering wheel were no longer working. I am terrified that my airbag will deploy. My vehicle has not been involved in any accidents and I am the only owner of the vehicle. My vehicle is not part of the takata recall but the issues I am having seem very similar.

The horn, airbag on drivers side, and bluetooth. All the components in the steering wheel stopped working. The airbag light came on in the dashboard, and the rest stopped working after a few days of light clicking noise from the steering wheel when turning. I had to take it for repair 3/13/18.

16 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2018

In August of 2017, my airbag light came on and my horn stopped working. There was also a clicking sound when turning the steering wheel. I took the vehicle to Volkswagen and was informed that the clock spring had failed and needed to be replaced. After conducting some research, I found that other 2014 Passats had been recalled for the same exact issue. My VIN was not covered under the recall, and so I had to pay out of pocket for a new clock spring. I believe that the Volkswagen recall was not broad enough to cover all vehicles affected. I reported this to the NHTSA at the time of the incident. However, about 6 months later, my vehicle began having the same issues. I was informed that the second clock spring had failed and needed to be replaced. Because the part was new, Volkswagen covered the repairs. I did not report this second occurrence of clock spring failure at the time. I am reporting the re-occurrence of the clock spring failure now, as I still hope the initial recall will be expanded and that I will get refunded from replacing it the first time. I hope this additional information can help with any ongoing investigations. I am providing documentation of both instances of clock spring failure in my 2014 Passat.

Failure Date: 01/15/2018

I brought car to vw dealer the same day and they ran a diagnostic test and said I need a new clockspring. I have heard many Passats have this issue but my cars VIN was not on the recall list. It's a safety hazard. Now I have a car with a broken clockspring. Amongst many other vw owners. Please help us.

2014 Volkswagen Passat was diagnosed with failure of the steering wheel clock spring resulting in loss of function for airbag, horn, and steering wheel control buttons. Airbag light was illuminated, and horn/buttons did not work. I took the vehicle in for repair right away. My VIN was not included in the existing recall (vw 69l2, NHTSA 15v-483) even though my issue appeared to be exactly the same concerns and symptoms as described in the existing recall notice. The current recall includes 2014 Volkswagen Passat cars manufactured in the us, but my vehicle was excluded. I had the vehicle repaired at a Volkswagen dealership (momentum Volkswagen of jersey village, houston, TX) at my cost of $544. 01. Date of repair was 05-Jul-2017, vehicle mileage 80200.

24 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2016

Airbag light came on while turning the steering wheel. I looked up a similar issue on NHTSA website (15v483000 campaign) with a steering wheel clock spring issue for multiple vw vehicles. It listed 'some' 2014 Passat's as being affected. I took it to the dealer who stated that my VIN was not listed as being effected, however it has to given it is the same make/model as this NHTSA campaign. Please consider reviewing and expanding this recall. Vehicle is less than 3 years old and it is clearly the same issue.

25 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2016

I was turning my steering wheel to park and heard a noise in the steering wheel that sounded like a wire stretching. Air bag light came on dashboard. Vehicle taken to vw dealer. Dealer states 'airbag clock spring' broken. A NHTSA recall exists for 2014 vw Passat, yet my vehicle is not included in it? NHTSA website states recall closed, yet my 2014 Passat has a defective clockspring. How can this be? dealer now wants $700 to repair and my life is in danger. Please reopen this recall of the 2014 vw clockspring issue since it is not complete and is putting lives at risk.

26 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2016

Upon pulling out of a parking space and turning the steering wheel there was a cracking noise and then the airbag light went off with an airbag warning. At which point all mechanisms within the steering wheel stopped working. I called my local dealer only to be informed that my VIN was not affected by the air bag clock spring failure and I would have to pay to have it diagnosed and fixed. There is currently a recall report receipt date: Aug 04, 2015 NHTSA campaign number: 15v483000 component(s): air bags NHTSA action number: pe15010 air bag clockspring failure: for this exact same issue affecting the Passat 2010,2012-2014 mine is also a 2014 and is not covered because my VIN was supposedly not affected.
