2 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2018

The clockspring in my steering wheel has failed and a warning message is displayed when starting the car and also the airbag warning light remains on. In addition, due to the clockspring failure the steering wheel mounting controls do not work. I am concerned about the safety of this airbag situation. I did contact Volkswagen group of America and the have communicated that they would not repair the vehicle as it is not under warranty or part of a recall (case number 180447041). I did learn that there was a similar recall for the same make, model vehicle that I have (recall # 15v-483), however, my specific vehicle serial number is not included. All indications show that this is a known issue and defect and I would expect this should be fixed do to the history and risk of this issue with the clockspring/airbag.
