Was turning in a parking lot and heard a loud cracking sound. The air bag light came on immediately and noticed the steering wheel controls and the horn were not working. Checked online and apparently issues were found on same model. It is a broken clock spring. Contacted dealer, they said to bring it in for diagnostics which would cost $120. I informed them of the broken part but they said they still would have to do the diagnostic. The clock spring itself would cost $485 if that was broken plus labor charges. Car has approximately 57250 miles.

I was driving on the highway when suddenly my sunroof exploded. It sounded like a gunshot that scared that shit out my family and me. Volkswagen does not want to pay for the repair because an outside source hit it. First there was no cars in front of me at least for 200 meters. Second it looks like the glass pushed out from the inside out. I asked if they had any proof and told me that the glass was pushed out and that something had to hit it. They are willing to pay half the cost but I believe they don't want to pay the full cost because they don't want admit to fault. If a sunroof just does not explode, why on you tube a camera caught Volkswagen exploding sunroof. Vw just does not want to report problems because of recalls. I would like someone from your agency investigate, I have not yet ordered them tip fix the sunroof. It's at the dealer in union, NJ if are willing to inspect. There is no scuff mark from an object hitting it. I am 99. 9 sure nothing hit the sunroof.

Since purchased we have found the rns-510 radio navigation asystem to be a dangerous item that Volkswagen has known about for a number of years. Their tech tips number, tt 91-13-01 dated 2/8/2013, updated on 5/9/2014 basically tells the car owner to just live with it. I think not since it is dangerous and life threatening. In speaking with vw techs at a number of dealerships I have been told this system is , "crap', "sucks", " is underpowered", "has been a problem since it was introduced", "is a pain in the a%@", "will never work right because it is underpowered". My wife is afraid to drive it because of concerns with the aforementioned radio navigation system. When putting the vehicle in reverse and waiting from 3-7 seconds the rearview camera shows a picture. When placed in drive the rearview camera stays on the screen for around 8-9 seconds. My wife has found this distracting and dangerous in moving forward but having a rear view still visible on the screen taking the drivers attention from concentrating on the road ahead. The radio touch screen is also a problem that at times requires multiple touches to get a channel change, again a distraction to the drive. Now the navigation system in this unit also is a pain. When my wife would use the navigation system the map would freeze up on the original streets and not progress as she went forward. I tried all of these things and agree completely. This unit is garbage that is a big distraction that vw has known about since the rns-510 was first introduced. The rns-510 came in my Passat sel premium which is supposed to be the top end Passat. One would think that such a vehicle would contain a unit that would function in a safe manner. I think this is the type of defective part that should require a recall.
Backup camera is slow to start. May take from 5 to 20 seconds to become operational after start up. This is hazard with respect to reliance on backup cameras by drivers to see obstructions behind the car. Failure of camera to start up quickly results in reduced safety because drivers will back up without camera operational. I can start my car and back out of driveway and reach the corner of my block before the camera starts up and shows me the road disappearing behind me. A camera does not replace driver obligations to make sure that obstructions are not behind their car, but the camera is also there to be a safety feature and it is not reliable as a safety feature do to its extremely slow start up. Individuals do not like to wait 30 seconds at a stop light much less 20 just to back out of their driveway. This is a design or manufacturing issue that should be corrected to ensure that the backup camera is a reliable safety feature as it was intended.
The backup camera is very slow to respond when placing the vehicle into reverse (15-25 seconds). Frequently, the camera will not activate until the vehicle has completed backing up and the vehicle is placed into drive. Volkswagen is aware of the issue, having identified it in a vw technical builletin. I contacted Volkswagen customer care in auburn, mi, about resolving the issue. I received a letter from ms. Kathrene fox, dated 22 April 2013, which stated: ". . . Your vehicle is operating as per its designed intent. As such, we will not be able to make a repair to [the] system. ".
The gas pedal got stuck under the floor mat on our 2001. 5 vw Passat - while driving - when I pushed the pedal all the way to the floor. The car started speeding but I was able to control the speed and stop the car by braking. I will be trimming the floor mat so that will not happen again.

Heat shield caught fire while driving down the road. I had bought the car from carmax who had lied about the auto from the broken seatbelts forward on the day of sale. Vw dealership repaired auto after fire but another mishap with heatshield when it fell off and under the passenger front tire @ 65 mile per hr, while driving down turnpike. I was not injured thanks to a truck driver who assisted my navigation to the side of the road and cut off the shield so I could return home. The tie rod was damaged and had to be replaced, since the fire the car has never been the same and has been a hazard, stalling on a beltway, etc. . . No apparent reason for this was found on a diagnostic machine as it has been checked several times. . It is when the emission light comes on and a bad sensor needs replaced or switch. But nothing fixes this car for long.
