At 35005 miles I was told by vw that I needed rear brakes pads and rotors so I had them installed at 35005 miles. Last week with the car at 52275 mile I was again told by vw that my rear brake pads and rotors need to be replaced. I find that 17270 miles is very quick wear for brakes. Vw brake pads and rotors should not have to be replaced every 18,000 miles and if they due then there is a design problem.

2001 Passat GLS v6. Water collected in the engine due to faulty drainage plugs and ruined the computer. Water also entered into cabin and soaked the rugs. The pollen filter also did not work. Computer and pollen filter were replaced. Also door on front passenger side has become unaligned. Also brakes needed to be totally replaced after 24,000 miles because rotors got warped. Also faulty ignition sensor needed to be replaced because engine light kept coming on. Also cv joints are rippiing and need to be replaced. Don't know why this is happening. Only have 25,000 miles on car and service it regularly.

1998 vw Passat: heard loud clanking noises especially when turning vehicle. Reported to vw service department local dealership. Advised the the upper control arm joint is worn and need replacement. Further, both left and right tie rods are totally shot and need replacing. Checked and found that the tie rod problem was recalled by NHTSA Sep. 1999 (99v-248) but that my vehicle was not included in recall. Do not know why as the problem described is the same. Additionally, numerous complaints about the control arms have been noted on this site, yet vw of America, who advised me are aware and sensitive to the problem, refused assistance in repairing the vehicle. Also the recalled tie rods replacement was refused to be fixed by them. Please follow up and investigate vw of America for these very important safety issues since I was told that they can cause serious driver accidents. I am also wondering why the brake rotors needed replacement when new brakes were installed. Do not trust vw to be a safe vehicle at this time.

Recurrent brake failures. At 10,000 miles, brake life was measured at 12 mm front and 8 mm rear, but then at about 20,000 miles, dealer determined that vehicle needed brake pads all around and rear discs. At 40,000, rear brake pads were replaced. This time dealer found that the rear driver side calipher had stuck, causing the brake pad to wear down to metal on that one side. A large percentage of mileage on the vehicle is highway miles, and driver does not ride the brakes. Owner believes vw tried to hide an inherent brake design problem by replacing all 4 brake pads at 20,000 miles. Vehicle had to be towed to dealer one time due to brake fault & brake fluid warning lights.
