Equipment Problems of Volkswagen Routan - part 1

I bought this van just a few weeks ago. One day I was driving and all a sudden it lost power while in motion. This has happened 4xs so far. It could've resulted in the inability to stop my vehicle as the brakes are stiff after the power & engine stop working. It could've resulted in either I hit someone or someone could've hit me. My cousins husband had a town and country that did this & it was on a recall for the ignition switch failure. He's a mechanic. He has also stated what is going on is the ignition switch failure going into accessory mode while I'm driving. It's available to be inspected I just don't have the money to have it inspected at this point by a dealership.

All electrical gauges randomly go on and off, there is a continuous beeping to go along with it, the windshield wipers will go on and off. It seems to happen more in the summer or if it’s raining. It will occasionally stall while doing this, especially in a stationary position (like at a drive through).

Nhtsa recall 14v396 is probably the best correction to this issue. My van has shut off mid-driving while my children are in the car with me. It is so dangerous in the road. I can't move the steering wheel. Mechanics can't seem to diagnose the problem because the van doesn't give any computer codes when it would shut down. There are similar complaints and I wonder how Volkswagen knows of this issue and has failed to inform the owners of these vehicles. Chrysler had a similar issue and did a recall. I hope Volkswagen would acknowledge this issue.

Car shuts off while driving, ignition key fob issue recall. Tipm system recall.

On Thursday January 6, 2022, I took my car Volkswagen Routan 2012 to the service center because the check engine light went on and the engine revving. The service center took a week for diagnostic it, then they informed me on January 13, after charging me $180 that it needs a new transmission because it stuck in limp mode (see attached report). I asked the customer service to contact Volkswagen representative because this problem seems to be a manufacture problem, especially the car run less than 85000 miles and all maintenance service done on time with Volkswagen dealership. This mileages are considered very low to have a transmission problem with well maintained car. They took another three weeks to report me by phone that Volkswagen refused completely to take care or to share responsibility for this problem and they rejected my claim.   because the claim runs by the dealership “service center” on behalf of me, I asked their customer service representative to email me what is Volkswagen final decision and why?  three days later, the customer service told me by phone “it’s confidential” and they can not email me.

Referenced to recall nhsta id no:11v-151 same issue happens on newer models, the car key ignition switch does not secure the key and that causes the car shut-down in tje middle of highway or road intermittently! ?t does not give any dashboard warning and no codes! all the lights are being gone and even ac shuts off! when ? push the key the lights come back on and the car can be turned on again. When driving for about 25 and then getting to a stop light. As I slow down and start to come to a stop the car shakes very roughly and turns right off. The first time this happened was 3 days after getting car from carmax. It had not happened again until this week.

Intermittent starting - from what I understand this vehicle is basically a Chrysler town & country. Chyrsler issued a recall on the faulty tmpi fuel pump relay but vw refuses. Is this allowed??? it is the same vehicle. It is not fair that I have to pay to fix a part that is known to be faulty from the start.

The vehicle looses all power while driving. If you hit a bump or touch the key it causes the key connection to stop and loss of all power. Have to put car in neutral while driving and restart it. This has happened while driving on the interstate and driving on rural roads. All areas. This has happened multiple times.

My car stopped working. The lights would come on but the car wouldn't start. We test the battery and aultinator, fuse and starter. We could not find the problem. We researched and found that there is a recall on the van for the problem. I called the Volkswagen company and gave them my VIN number and they had a dealership to handle the problem. After a few days they called me and stated that there is a $600. 00 charge for the problem to be fix. I told that it was a recall on the van but he stated that my VIN number doesn't match. There is a recall on the Volkswagen Routan 2010 from October 2019 to June 2020. Mine is manufactured in April 2020 with the same ignition problem.

The car starts when it wants to. It could be fine then go out to start it and it does not turn over. Battery has been replaced, starter replaced twice nobody can figure out what is going on. I see this is very common in the reviews. Has happened multiple times.

Was driving vehicle in illinois and was pushing the gas but the car would not move. Finally it kind of jolted forward and starting moving but in a jerky kind of way. Brought it for a diagnostic test they said it was a warrant issue take it the the dealer. Did that they said it was not under warrant and I paid 1000 bucks to get it fixed so I thought. Happened again and went back and they said it will not do it so it is fine. Drove to arizona to move here and after a week of being here happened again. Husband drove it to the dealership 3 times, the first time they said they could not fix it. 2nd time said it was a known recall they could not get the code from corporate, 3rd time same excuse. And now trying again and they keep saying they can not get the code from corporate. It is a pcm software recall.

It turns on all the lights on the dashboard saying it needs auto assist service there is no problem with it the dealer cannot take care of it because they don't take care of Volkswagen Routan no more.

While driving (car in motion)the car to pick up my children from school, it sounded like it was draining. The alert light beeped so I looked at dash the lights/info on car started blinking then the car stopped completely in middle of the road. No power would work I couldn't roll down the windows or turn on hazard lights, I had to put car in park. The key was stuck in the ignition and would not start from a jump. The car had no warning signs and was recently inspected and checked on computer and they were unable to get any codes or see any engine problems. Car would not even go into neutral to move off the road. Car was towed to my home and still not able to jump battery and car won't start. All power remains off and can't lock car with key either.

Van intermittent starts, had the win replaced and it's still doing it, dealership can't figure it out. Same year and make has many of the same problem and complaints. Frustrating that the manufacturer will not take responsibility.

I was in a pretty bad car accident 4/5/2019 with 6 kids in the car and none of the airbags deployed. . We were I motion when car infront of me tried to avoid the car in front of him. I saw him and I tried to avoid him so my left front hit his rear right side. None of the airbags deployed and now I have a horrible concussion in the hospital!.

Takara recall I was driving (the vehicle was in motion) on a cott street and the van started shaking then the engine just shut off. Then the van would turn on, but would shut off immediately. I had to call a tow truck to get the van off the road. I could have crashed and now I don't want to drive my kids in that vehicle anymore. I just don't feel safe. Also I just bought this vehicle 4 days earlier from a used car dealer.

2010 vw Routan VIN:[xxx] we purchased the vehicle used in November of 2018. From November 2018 through early 2020, I experienced the car turning off while driving it about once every 4-6 months. When researching this issue we found that extra weight from other keys or keychains could be affecting it so we separated the car key from my house keys. This showed no improvement. From early 2020 through early 2021, the issue increased in frequency. Instead of once every 4-6 months it became once a month. And, unfortunately in the past 3 months, it has started occurring several times a week (sometimes multiple times a day). This has been a safety concern for our family and we are very nervous that this could cause a serious accident. Luckily the other vehicles around us when this occurs have been alert drivers that were able to give us the extra time to restart our vehicle. We realize that this won’t always be the case and need to get it fixed. The issues we are experiencing as outlined above are in line with the issues listed in NHTSA campaign 11v151000 for other 2010 vw Routans. However, for whatever reason, our VIN number is not included in the recall. I would like to make a formal appeal with NHTSA that our vehicle be included in this recall and that it be repaired by vw as it is quite clear that what we are experiencing is from the issue in this NHTSA recall campaign. We are disappointed to be in a position to fight for something to get fixed that is quite clearly caused by a defaulted part, but remain hopeful that this will be resolved in a timely manner. While driving, the car will suddenly stall all lights will come on. Sometime it will start back up when pushing start button and other times it will take a few minutes. This usually happens when going under 10 mph. It is also sometimes difficult to start after all the lights will come on and then off. We have replaced the battery and starter and that hasn't fixed the issue.

While driving on a city street roads may have had a little ice on them. Felt a sharp sensation to my outer ankle area (I believe at the time I was in the process of breaking to come to a stop. Shortly after felt the same sensation to my ankle sharp, burning, noticed the sensation felt electrical felt warm sensation near hip area. . . I believe the sensation was electrical currents that penetrated to my ankle. Upon this thought I immediately turned off my seat warmer, noticed the heel of my boot may have been sitting in a wet area on my floor mat from the melted snow on my boots and my boots had a metal clasp on it at the exact location the painful sharp electrical sensation felt on my ankle. Pain did not occur again once the seat warmer was turned off. Noticed dull tingling sensation in my middle finger shortly after the second episode along with what felt a little like indigestion.

The car does not start after a stop. It takes hours before it restarts. Replaced battery, starter still same issue. Many other vw Routan owners have the same issue. The car has power but something is messed up in this car.

The vehicle will randomly not start and the battery is drained. All the research I have done appears very similar to the fuel pump relay not shutting off and could be related to the tipm not working properly. It starts after I give it a jump. I had battery, starter, and alternator tested. They are all in perfect working condition. It started happening on sept 4, 2017 and continues randomly.

Won't shift gears. . . . . . Numerous time had to quickly pull over side to shut the engine off and restart. Sometime it works sometimes it won't .

Stationary-will not start. The van will randomly not start. The lights come on but the engine doesn't start. We've had several parts replaced when vw guesses what it could be, and still have the problem. I've been stranded many times, had the car towed, and then Volkswagen cannot find a problem to fix because there is no code. We had the entire tipm module replaced and still have issues with random nonstarts. We took it to 2 Volkswagen dealers who cannot locate a problem, just guessing. We had our own mechanic replace some corroded wires, and still not fixed. Extremely frustrating. We have four children and to be stranded several times, needing a tow, is awful. Volkswagen is not helpful. We have taken videos of the nonstarts just to prove that this happens. The tow truck driver also tried to start the van. It may start again after trying five minutes later, or it may need to sit overnight. Winter, summer, hot and cold, it still happens. I've developed severe stress over this and we owe too much to just trade it in. I do not drive it unless I have to due to being scared it may not start. Please recall this VIN. It is a lemon!.

The ignition switch has failed multiple times leaving us stranded. We have had the vehicle towed. Our mechanic has run multiple diagnostics to no avail, they replaced the starter and we continue to experience ignition failure. At times, the car will start and not go into gear. We have been able to get it into gear by turning it off and back on again, assuming it will turn back on again. There is danger in being stranded far from home with children in the car.

Driver air bag has failed twice resulting in high dollar repairs. Brakes go bad extremely fast. Already replaced 2 full sets of brakes and rotors in 2 years; less than 10,000 miles on each set. Vehicle violently jerks when in reverse on a hill. Abnormal amount of popping in steering. Dealer unable to pinpoint problem with jerking or popping.

The car stalls/ turns off while driving on city streets. Happens randomly every couple of weeks since purchase of the car in 2016. Have to pull over and restart car. Have had mechanic look at , no codes are coming up related to it.

The van was my mothers which she passed away about year ago. I inherited the van I drive it for couple months when I noticed that sometimes when I would try to start it that it wouldn't start. It would only make a clicking noise. I would turn key off & try it again it would start. Then in month or so I noticed that when I would be driving 55-70 mph that it would like stall. It wouldn't shift down or accelerate. I would have to pull over & restart it. It began doing that quite often until one night I was driving down the road & went to turn in somewhere when it died & wouldn't start back. My husband had to come pull me home. We have researched what it was doing & a lot of people has had this happen to them. They claim it's a $1200 tpim board. The vw Routan is Chrysler made under the hood. Chrysler is aware of this dangerous problem & has already issued a recall but vw said they wasn't going to recall it. They are aware of it too. I feel as if someone is going to get hurt if this isn't addressed because a lot of people have said that they would be driving down road at 70mph & it just dies which mean that they don't have any power steering. Please do something before someone gets hurt. I have kids & I would've hated for us to be on the interstate when that happened. Luckily I was in town & no kids was with me. Thank you!!.

While driving at 65 mph on i35, the car's transmission acted like it slipped into 2nd gear and the tack went to 5000rpm. I tried to just slow down and get off the road, turned the car off and back on when I got to a parking lot. I then started driving again and it appeared to be alright. Within a few days it did it a couple times more, this time turning on the check engine light. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't duplicate problem in the week they had it. Picked it up from the dealership and was about 10 to 15 miles away and it did it again. I took it back to the dealer the next day and it has been there for two weeks. They told me an engineer from corporate came to check it out and during that time they had another car - same year, same style, even same color come into the shop with the same problem and they verified the problem on both of the cars. They said it was the transmission and it is going to cost somewhere around $5000. 00 +/- to get it fixed. This is a very dangerous problem and I am hoping that something will be done about it. There are numerous stories on the internet with people in Volkswagens that have had the same or similar problems. Cannot see why there hasn't been a recall for this problem. They even admitted that they had seen the same or similar problems posted on the internet.

While operating the vehicle the car stalled an simply stopped in the middle of driving. Completely ridiculous, very dangerous! your website states that vehicles same year, make and model and manfu date thevsame have recalls for exact same issue. This is urgent. This could cause the death of me or my family. It must be fixed by vw, especially when recalls are there for some.

The problem started with the car not starting on various occasions. I just thought it was a fluke. Then it died on me multiple times while driving various speeds upward of 70 mph. Everything would turn off and then I would pull over and it would start right back up. Upon those things happening I decided to take it in. As I was heading home on the highway going about 75 mph the car accelerated without me touching the gas and then the transmission dropped and it died. Very scary. I took it in and they concluded that it was something to do with the transmission. $1000 later the dealership assured me the problem was fixed. After driving it for about three days the problems persisted. It wouldn't start right up and then it stalled on me while in reverse out of my driveway.

After the car is parked back lift gate opens suddenly, also automatic side doors suddenly opens. Lots of occasions the vehicle won't start. At one time my wife was driving and suddenly it just stops in the middle of the road and could not start. No sign of empty gas or engine lights warnings. After the being taken to the shop diagnose is sensors not working and lots of time sensors were replaced but the hard start keeps on doing it to this date. Sometime it starts sometimes it does not.

The vehicles stalls out while driving, power steering goes out, brakes stop working. . . . Very dangerous - 2015 ignition switch recall (win module) did not fix this problem. Chrysler knows this, vw knows this - common problem is 2009-2010 models - these are family vehicles - someone is going to be killed soon because of this issue!.

My car has an issue of not turning over randomly. For no apparent reason it will not start. I've had the car checked several times and the issue is still the same. My mechanic find nothing wrong with vehicle.
