1 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 02/15/2025

The brakes randomly stop working. At random times you go to brake and have to push the pedal all the way to the floor to start stopping. 2nd issue. The car dies and looses all power at intermittent times while driving. The car has to be restarted while driving. Could be driving 70 on a hwy or 30 on a residential street. Either coast to the side of the road to restart. . . Or quickly put the car in neutral and restart it while driving. Both of these have almost caused wrecks several times. Unknown own causes to both as they happen at random and different times.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 11/16/2019

Car electrical system goes crazy, speedometer needle goes crazy. Radio turns off and on, then the vehicle turns off completely. It turns on after. Sometimes all this happens before turning off, sometimes it turns off suddenly with no warning. Have spent a lot of money trying to fix issue with no luck. Driving it makes me very nervous but I can't change cars right now. It has happened both on small streets and highway in motion.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 03/29/2019

Van cuts off while driving. Inability to steer, limited braking. Car goes completely dead but still start back once I have completely stopped. This is very hazardous especially when your driving over 45 with a lot of traffic following behind you.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 11/08/2018

When driving down the road going about 30mph my car suddenly shut off. No indicator lights came on and my power steering was gone as well as my ability to brake well. Looking online their was a recall on my model year and make of van for the same problems with the ignition switch but my VIN number did not pull up a recall. I contacted vw and they also stated my car was not part of that recall. Thankfully I was able to pull to side of the road safely.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 04/01/2018

As I am accelerating from 25-35 mph the vehicle almost feels like it doesn't want to shift into next gear. The vehicle sort of jiggles/jolts while trying to gear up. Once reaching 35/40 mph then vehicle runs normal. If I push down on gas peddle to make car go through that gear, the engine revs up and the vehicle kind of jolts a "get up and go" feeling and the rpms go above 4k, which then vehicle gets up in speed and moves. Once at 35/40 mph, then the vehicle runs smoothly.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 05/29/2017

The minivan suddenly gave away on the transmission. At speeds of around 70mph, the transmission was in "d" (auto transmission vs manual) but there was no engagement from the engine. Giving more gas the engine was just revving up as if it was in neutral. Moved it to neutral and back to drive and still the engine revved up without engagement. Had to move over to the right lane and started slowing down to stop. After about 2-3 minutes, tried again and then the car suddenly revved up to 5000rpm or so as if it was in the 2nd or 3rd gear. It then re-adjusted itself and started picking up speed. Please investigate ASAP since this happened during peak traffic on a highway when trying to overtake a truck with the van full of passengers.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 03/25/2017

The problem started with the car not starting on various occasions. I just thought it was a fluke. Then it died on me multiple times while driving various speeds upward of 70 mph. Everything would turn off and then I would pull over and it would start right back up. Upon those things happening I decided to take it in. As I was heading home on the highway going about 75 mph the car accelerated without me touching the gas and then the transmission dropped and it died. Very scary. I took it in and they concluded that it was something to do with the transmission. $1000 later the dealership assured me the problem was fixed. After driving it for about three days the problems persisted. It wouldn't start right up and then it stalled on me while in reverse out of my driveway.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 10/09/2016

My complaint is a that my vehicle started out giving me problems getting started then got to the point the engine would just stop while driving and would not allow me to press the break to stop the vehicle. I found that chrystler had recalled the tipm in their vehicles and vw Routans (made by the chryster group) were just no longer made and pushed under sthe rug. . . This is my primary mode of transportation and I am a single mother of five minor children. . . I don't have $1300 to invest in the repair and I reported the issue to vw and to no avail. I'm afraid for mine and my children's lives. . . The next time we may not be so lucky. . . . I am in hopes that this reaches someone that can help. My children and I were in the vehicle and in a rural area on a straight-away when the engine shut off (without warning) and I could not engage the brakes. I was always advised that vw vehicles were the way to go because vw stood behind their brand. . . But I find that now that my family is in this situation they can care less. I did report the issue to them and was told they would not stand behind the vehicle.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 08/11/2011

Even after rebuilding the entire transmission, every time the vehicle is placed into reverse, there is a pause, then a jarring as it slips into r gear; but every time acceleration is attempted in r, there is a delay, followed by consistent lag; if attempting to r up an incline, if speed is not already over a specific minimum, vehicle then assumes action as if it is in n. Even an incline slope of simply backing into a driveway, if vehicle is not entirely across the incline, it's not possible to continue controlling a reverse movement, though engine responds as though in n. This has been an ongoing issue; that has persisted even after rebuilding the transmission. Another issue that began several years ago; is that the door's locking mechanisms for several of the doors, no longer operate properly. Locking via key fob, or door panel, does not actually engage the door to lock. Nor does unlocking the doors via key fob, or door panels.
