7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2022

When I first purchased my vehicle the epc came on multiple times and I had to take it back to the dealership. Fast forward last week when I was going home on the eway same issues car wouldn’t accelerate the car was idled at the speed of 40mph it wouldn’t go any faster for a few minutes then it took off out of no where. Also when I was taking my kids to school I was making a left turn and lost control of my vehicle because it was idled and took off out of no where. That’s not safe for me my kids or any passengers traveling with me. It’s also not safe for other drivers or pedestrians. Very scary moment took my vehicle in that same day to be told it was battery issues. They claimed because the epc light wasn’t on it’s harder to diagnose to get another battery and to keep the car overnight to see if that works if not further diagnose the car. I picked my vehicle up had my battery inspected by a different service provider and was told the battery was just fine. I keep reaching out to the location I got the vehicle from their not correcting the issue and corporate just told me to go to another dealership and gave a im sorry about your frustration comment. Clearly the car has a defect always had one since day one when it was supposed to be a cpo vehicle in the first place. And I had issues the same week I purchased the vehicle. Also haven’t had my car a year and I’m having all kind of issues.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2022

I was travelling on highway, 55 miles speed , all of sudden voice came from engine and car lost power and came to 10 miles and accelerator was not working it gave me message on dash bord that rpm high. I moved the car towards edge of the road and shut it. After 5 minutes I started again and went to work. However its gave me same problem while I was coming home . My car has only 20000. Miles and no other issue. Its dangerous when car is moving with the flow of traffic and loose power and does not move.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2022

Engine failure at 72,614 miles. Volkswagen refusing to assist.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2022

While driving down the highway, my car completely shut off and shut down while going 45mph. Due to everything shutting off, there were no brake lights, hazards, blinkers, etc that I was able to use to warn other drivers of what was happening, therefore I was almost hit multiple times. It turned back on, then back off while driving, 4 more times until the final time when it would not turn back on or turn over at all, I had to pull off the road and it wouldn’t turn back on again. At this time I got the battery tested and it was bad. I bought the new battery and the new battery didn’t change anything. It still was doing the same thing, not turning on at all. Not even trying to turn over to turn on. I had my vehicle towed to the Volkswagen dealership in ocala on college road. While at this shop, they have told me that the new battery is what has cause the issues, which is incorrect as the issues began before I got a new battery. They are also saying that because I got a new battery that they will not cover the repairs under my warranty. I had to get in a new battery for my safety after almost being hit on the highway due to the electronics or other issues being faulty in the car.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2022

I took the vehicle in to the local dealership for an oil change and after the oil change was completed, I drove about 10 miles before the engine seemed to lose power an misfile. The "check engine" light started flashing before it turned solid. I called the dealership and they asked me to bring the vehicle back. After scanning the vehicle obd information, per the dealership invoice, it returned the following codes: 1. P0343001 (camshaft pos. Sensor circ. High input) 2. P0300001 (random/multiple cylinder misfire detected) eventually, they contacted vw and were asked to drain the oil, in which they found metal particles. Vw then requested them to tear down the engine at which they noticed "excessive amounts of metal on bottom of oil pan". Upon reporting back to vw, dealership was asked to replace "long block with turbo assembly due to metal contamination". My understanding is that the entire engine has been replaced along with the turbocharger. Car was at dealership for 59 days total.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2022

The first time this problem occurred was in April right after a routine maintenance check. The car was idling in a parking lot when the engine started to vibrate and a warning was displayed that said "max engine speed 4000 rpm". The car was turned off and then back on. The warning did show up on the display, but the "check engine" light was lit. The car was driven back home, and after that drive the check engine light was not lit anymore. To be safe the car was taken to the dealer. The dealer was not able to replicate the issue. Later, in July, the max engine speed and epc warnings were displayed on the screen in the middle of a trip. At this time there was also a loss of acceleration power. The driver pulled over, stopped the car, and then restarted it. When the car restarted the warning lights were no longer on so the driver completed the trip. In the manual it says that the car can still be operated if the epc warning light is on, but that it should be taken to a dealer. This led the driver to believe that it was safe to complete the trip and take the car to their home dealership after the holiday. The following day, the epc warning light and the max engine speed warning both appeared in the middle of a drive. The driver was driving up a hill on a backroad with no possible pull off. The driver had to stop the car in the middle of a road directly after a blind turn. The driver restarted the car and was able to drive about 10 yards before the warning came on again and the engine cut out. The driver repeated turning the car off and then back on multiple times to be able to safely get the car up the hill and to an area where a pull-off was available. Luckily, no other cars were coming at the time the car was stalled. It was a very unsafe location! the car is currently in the process of being towed to the dealer to be worked on. This seems like a very serious safety concern that is affecting other Tiguan owners too.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2022

Car has multiple malfunctions. Has had noisy valvetrain, lack of power upon acceleration, has sputtered with a load on engine especially uphill. Car shut off completely while at 60 mph and nearly caused a catastrophic collision with my whole family in the car. Car presents substantial safety risk. Multiple codes/warnings have flashed up on the display screen(evap, trans, fuel inj, etc). Transmission went into "emergency mode" after being started up today, then went away after restarted. Car has been to dealership but issues were not properly addressed/ignored. Vw of America is well aware of issues with these cars but ignores the consumers needs and puts consumers at great safety risk by doing so. This vehicle has both engine and transmission issues as well as odd electrical anomalies.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2021

The contact owns a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 mph, the epc warning light illuminated, causing the vehicle to go into limp mode. The vehicle decelerated to approximately 20 mph. The contact pulled over and assessed the vehicle; however, did not physically see any issues with the vehicle. The vehicle was restarted and she proceeded to drive however, the vehicle failed to exceed 27 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 91,000.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2021

Like many other people who have complained, the same epc engine light turning on after the engine stalls while driving. This has happened multiple times while driving on the highway while going 65mph+. The max speed 4000 rpm message comes on the dashboard. The car does not accelerate and pulling over is necessary in order to shut off the car and restart the engine. This is incredibly dangerous and the car’s speed cannot be controlled.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2021

Epc light came on and engine started to stall.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2020

This vehicle has an erratic and often severe hesitation when accelerating, which makes it extremely dangerous to drive on the highway as the driver can not gauge the rate at which the car will speed up. It happens less frequently when driving under 40 miles an hour on a city street but is unpredictable at speeds above this. I've been driving for over 25 years and this is the first vehicle in which I've experience this uneven lag. I've also experience issues with the auto start/stop function, when the vehicle is stopped on an incline at red lights it has failed to restart, requiring a manual restart (put in park and restart engine). This vehicle does not seem safe. The most recent occurrence of the acceleration lag was June 14, 2020, but it had occurred regularly since I purchased the vehicle from the dealership in January 2020.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2020

My car hesitates when accelerating at a complete stop. I press the accelerator to pull into traffic and it seems the car just doesn't want to go! this makes it very dangerous to drive period. It takes a few seconds for the car to wake up and finally accelerate.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

I bought a car from vw south orlando 7 month ago and since than I had a lot of issue with the car engine light was going on and off I been their like 5 times now and just pissing me off I want a replacement car.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2019

The car hesitates one to two seconds from a stop when the accelerator pedal is depressed quickly halfway or more as you would do to merge quickly into fast moving traffic. The problem can also be duplicated when moving slowly around 5 mph. This problem has existed since the beginning but now seems to be getting worse. I consider this a safety issue since the car does not respond as expected/required under all conditions.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

The car gets filled with strong odor of gasoline inside the cabin and I was loosing gas at a rapid rate in addition the car was loosing speed. There is also the problem with the sto-start system, once the car was at a stop, the car would not turn over and start again. It would get stucktrying to turn on and at the same time I was loosing gasoline. I had to remove all passengers from the vehicle including my one month grand son due to the strong odor of gasoline. This incidents occured several times during the weekend of November 1 through November 4th when I dropped off the vehicle at the dealership.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2019

Severe hesitation when trying to accelerate, most noticeable from a full or near stop. Pulling out quickly into moving traffic often results in moments of no acceleration at all. It can be frightening and potentially dangerous. A quick google search for "tiguan hesitation" brings up many complaints about this issue. Dealer is aware but says there is nothing that can be do as it is the nature of the transmission and engine. Vw America says thank you for the feedback and they will "keep an eye out for trends and report as needed. " I believe that if not corrected this issue will result serious accidents and injuries. The date below is the last time I experienced the issue but has happened many times since leasing the car this past January 2019.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

It takes a scary amount of time for the car to speed up when accelerating. The rpm module shows the acceleration but the vehicle doesn't actually speed up to match it. This is a safety issue especially when merging on to the freeway. An accident is bound to happen as I am not able to control the speed of the on coming cars and am unable to get my car up to speed to match the others. Also, the car randomly shuts down when stopped, a message saying please start engine manually pops up. This is also a safety concern and is bound to cause an accident as it happens a few times a month. A few months ago my car turned off when I stopped at the red light, a car was exiting the freeway as the light had turned green so they kept their high speed, I quickly turned my hazard lights on and the car had to swerve to the right lane to avoid rear ending me.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2019

I was driving on interstate 95 north in the fast lane ( at 70 mph), when the "engine exceeds 4000 rpm" warning came on the dash board/system read out and the car lost power and started decelerating (to 40 mph). I continued to push the gas pedal but the car came to a complete stop. I put on my flashers and restarted the car and coasted to the shoulder. I put the park, stopped the car and waited and restarted the car. We entered the highway again and as I tried to accelerate, the car hesitated and decelerated again. This time I moved over to the right shoulder , stopped and got out of the car. My husband's friend was in the car with me and my husband was following behind us. I called my insurance company and explained to them what was happeing with the car and they came and towed the car to ourisman laurel voklswagon. I left a note and a key in the drop off service bow and now 24 hours later I have not received a call from any service personnel. It seems from reviewing other complaints, that several people (more than 20) have had the same issue.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2019

We purchased 2 2018 vw Tiguan. Volkswagen Tiguan experience loss of acceleration creating a dangerous and risky environment for my daughter. Visited dealer few times and they told me problem can not identified. They even take car for overnight ride and cannot duplicate problem. Besides loss of acceleration, there are lot of problems with the start stop systems which also can not be identified. When there will be a formal communication from NHTSA regarding this matter ?.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

This vehicle has significant, but intermittent issues with acceleration; it seems mostly when the ac is on or it is cold out (below 40). Vehicle will hesitate, or entirely not respond, to the gas pedal. When this occurs, acceleration is even less predictable (and slower) than a diesel truck. When it does not occur, the acceleration was zippy and fast. Unfortunately, this erratic lag is extremely dangerous - especially when attempting to merge on the highway. I can step on the gas repeatedly and nothing happens, but then the car will accelerate in a manner which feels out of control. Driving in "sport" mode seems to prevent this, so I am inclined to think there is an issue with how the vehicle has been programmed - versus a mechanical issue with the engine. I know some "eco" modes tend to make cars less responsive to acceleration (in order to save fuel) but this is extreme.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2019

Stop/start function on new Tiguan is behaving erratically. On a couple of occasions, when the foot brake is applied the car stops, but will not start again when foot is lifted off the brake. Brake goes hard and will not depress. Engine has to be switched off and on again for car to move. Most recent occasion happened while turning into traffic, needed to back up and could not. Thankfully oncoming traffic was just barely able to swerve around me.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2019

Car engine cuts out for a few seconds then accelerates after coming to a complete stop.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2019

My wife called me panicked because her 2018 vw Tiguan sel, with 8000 miles, cut out on her while slowly pulling into a busy intersection. She described the problem as if the car lost complete power for a few seconds, even though she did not have her foot on the break at the time, and the car was not able to accelerate. My wife quickly put the car into reverse, where it responded well moving backwards, and threw on her hazards. The vehicle is less than 1 year old and she is deathly scared of driving it now. The vehicle is a hazard! when looking online for similar power train issues, many other customers are reporting a similar experience.

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

When accelerating. It feels like the motor is vibrating too much like it's going to rip itself out. The car has only 3k miles. It's been addressed to Volkswagen! motor mounts are ok and transmission mount is good as told by dealer. This occurs every time the car is accelerating from a standstill.

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2019

My vehicle displayed a sign stating that their was low coolant. I took it to the dealer around 14,000 miles and the pcm has been destroyed. The engine hasn't been getting coolant for some time. Once that was replaced my car stopped accelerating properly and rogers really roughly mainly through gears 1-3. It's really dangerous if I need to accurate quickly to merge the response time is off and I have had several near misses. I flagged this with vw and they are refusing to acknowledge that their is an issue. I would like to get this resolved before myself or others are injured.

32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2019

Vehicle has a significant hesitation when starting from a stopped position. When pulling into traffic you step on the gas and initially the vehicle does not move which causes you to press further on the accelerator pedal. Eventually vehicle suddenly jerks violently forward. Dealership advises that since there are no trouble codes there is nothing wrong. Has been an issue since new.

33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

During the life of a 48 month lease, the epc and emissions control module failed four times, placing the vehicle out of service for at least 40-days total. When these components failed, a message popped up stating there was a 4000 rpm max. The ability to accelerate was immediately lost, and actually the vehicle not let me exceed 2000 rpms. I had to pull over and restart the engine in order to continue my journey. This was extremely hazardous.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2018

Everytime I drive when engine is cold, it feels like engine is going to die. I can feel small jerking, like car is running out of fuel. Fuel tank is full. I read many complains and forms, vw doesn't care. I contacted them via twitter, no response yet.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2018

The vehicle hesitates when accelerating from a stop or occasingly surges under heavier throttle pressure. This is very dangerous and the dealers are telling us this is normal behavior. I see that many drivers have reported this issue. Does someone have to get injured before we get taken seriously? Volkswagen needs to fix the problem with the engine now.
