2 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 04/04/2025

Steering wheel travel assist is disabled which includes adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. The warning lights flash on and off, sometimes multiple times a second, sounding a loud beeping each time. It is triggered at engine start and persists through all speeds. I have experienced it 0-70 mph. The flashing lights and associated rapid beeping indicating the failure is extremely distracting while driving. Warning lights and warning sounds are designed to alert the driver to a potential safety issue so ignoring the lights and sounds is dangerous in the event it is a different caution/warning. However, also not ignoring it is dangerous because of the frequency of the warnings which causes the driver to look away from the road. After speaking with the maintenance department at my vw dealership, they indicated that this is a widely known problem that is remedied only with the replacement of the steering wheel. There are several other sensors that are triggered by the same issue I was told by the maintenance department. They are uncertain at this time if it impacts the airbag system which is another potential safety concern. The steering wheel can only be ordered after inspection by the maintenance department and there is shortage and/or back order of the part to fix the problem.

3 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 03/30/2025

Travel assist not available warning is showing multiple times when driving. I start the car, start driving and no issues. Then randomly the warning issues shows up along with an audible alert. It appears to be an issue with the steering wheel as several online posts indicate vw replaced the steering wheel to resolve the issue, only to have it show up again, several months later.

4 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 02/17/2025

There is a continuous alert stating "travel assist not available" even though travel assist is actively on, working, and exterior sensors are clear and clean. A Volkswagen dealer confirmed that it is due to faulty sensors in the steering wheel. There seem to be hundreds of people who have reported the same issue over several years, yet there has not been a recall yet for this issue.

5 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 09/23/2024

Vehicle purchased 10. 31. 2023 at Volkswagen jackson (ritchey automotive) in jackson, mississippi. During the course of normal vehicle operation, multiple travel assist system failures and alerts as documented within Volkswagen technical service bulletin 2070207/1 occur. Three repair attempts have previously been performed by Volkswagen jackson (ritchey automotive) in jackson, mississippi as documented by invoices dated 20 Feb 2024, 27 Feb 2024, and 12 Mar 2024. These efforts appear to conform with the previously cited technical service bulletin 2070207/1 and confirm the defect(s) and/or nonconformity as per the bulletin's summary of "48?23? 01-travel assist currently not available. " the frequency and persistence of visual and auditory safety alerts pose significant hazards to the safety of the driver and vehicle occupants as an unnecessary distraction and nuisance in addition to the direct hazards of antecedent electrical malfunction and driver assistance system defects/nonconformity/failure. This matter has been discussed with dealership staff, yielding no productive resolution, and further assistance is being pursued through Volkswagen customer care. All rights to resolution through alternative means are documented as expressly reserved.

6 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 08/19/2023

I've had a 2022 vw Tiguan sel-premium 4-motion for about 1 week. It has approximately 23,000 miles on it. After a few days of problem free driving, the car displays a warning "travel assist currently not available" upon startup and also while driving. The problem sometimes goes away on its own, other times it keeps warning the driver of an error with the system. I've seen in reoccur at least half a dozen times in one week. There is no way to fully disable this system to prevent the warning from occurring. I ran a scan of the error codes, and found code b17b8f2 to be the issue. I cleared the code and then it returned within 15 minutes. Research led me to find this is a very common problem. Vw has issued their own TSB which can be found on this website. TSB transaction no. 2070207/1. It appears the entire steering wheel needs to be replaced to resolve this issue. In my mind, this should be a voluntary recall on all models affected by this problem. It appears this is a manufacturing defect but I've also seen that there is a huge backlog of steering wheels needed before parts can be installed to rectify the situation, leaving owners without a remedy to fix a distracting warning light and sound.

7 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 07/17/2023

Car was purchased new on 3 oct 2022. I was at dealer on 17 Jul 2023 for the 5th time for issues with infotainment screen going black and/or freezing. Diagnosis revealed it needed another f5 computer chip (the 2nd replacement). In addition, I was informed I needed a new steering wheel. A few days later, lane departure and travel assist function would turn off/on spontaneously, frequently pulling me from my lane. As of 23 Jul 2023, the infotainment screen died. I no longer have a my backup camera which I rely on extensively. In addition, I lost my navigation, apple play, radio, phone charger. Vw has no eta for a replacement parts and stated a loaner was not included in my purchase warranty. I am investigating their buyback program, however that may take over 45 days. I do not feel safe in this vehicle.

Failure Date: 04/02/2023

"travel assist not available" alert ding repeatedly goes off while driving and feels like wheel fights left turns. Easily every 10-30 seconds. This is a wide spread issue with 2022 Tiguans.

11 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 09/16/2022

Hello, I have had much trouble with this automobile. In fact it’s has become a nightmare. While driving on highway 75/85 with massive traffic in a major city, my level of anxiety was raised because I was about 15 minutes from home. I had to travel for 40 minutes. I took a chance hoping that the car did not stop or give out in traffic in the middle of the highway. First my navigating system would not function, it kept blanking out off and on or dancing around, so and I could not get it to give directions toward home. Then the dashboard began to light up with multiple lights. I’m a senior citizen over 70 years, with a compromised immune system and felt very anxious or worried for my safety as well as others and that the car would stop in a 6 lane interstate going one way in traffic. June 2022- the thermostat housing and water pump gave out for no reason. The control arms brushes had to also be replaced which should have lasted for at least 80,000 miles. At the time my automobile had only 48,000 miles as a 2017 Tiguan. On 9/16/22, I was told by the dealership that it would take 2 weeks before I could get in to them to have a diagnostic to see what maybe the problem. Right now the car is parked, I live on a fixed income, with medical problems and doctors appointments of which I can’t afford to miss. This is my only means of transportation and I don’t have multiple cars as well as I live alone. This is very frustrating!!! out of all the automobiles I have owned, I’ve never had such problems as I have with this one. The warning lights are still showing. I counted 6 as of this date. I am asking that you will consider the circumstances and replace this automobile for the blue book value, at least, so that I can feel safe and that I’m not jeopardizing my life as well as others around. Thank you!.

12 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 09/14/2022

The vehicle continually displays an error stating "travel assist not available" and a loud tone sounds. This occurs up to 7 times in a row, or intermittently, as the vehicle is being driven. There is no detectable pattern for when this comes up - it happens when you first start the car, when you're driving in a parking lot, when you driving on the freeway, anywhere. The sound is so loud that it is startling each time it happens. It has become a safety issue to us because it is highly distracting and alarming. We have taken it to the dealership once for repair. They said they "reset" something, but it is continuing to happen and we cannot turn it off.

13 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 09/05/2022

The dealership for my vehicle is over 70 miles away. My battery died and I went and replaced it. When I did all sorts of lights came on in my car, my power steering wouldn’t work, my cruise control wouldn’t work, and my ac wouldn’t work. I took it to the dealership to see what was going on with it. It turns out my battery was placed backwards in my car and when that happened it fried the fuse for my entire system, it broke my ac unit, it broke my alternator, and messed up my electrical system. Yes I do believe there is a risk to my safety with this issue. I could not turn my car when I drove it. I was told by service representative that this has been happening a lot more often with people who are just trying to change the battery. The only time the vehicle was inspected was by the service department at the dealership. No they’re weren’t any problems prior to failure and they appeared after the battery was placed.

14 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 08/27/2022

I took possession of this vehicle on 7/08/2022 and have had multiple problems with the infotainment ctr, cruise control, homelink, wireless charging pad, etc. However the most serious problem occurred on 08/27 when while sitting at a stop light on a downward hill ( I was the front car with a line of vehicles behind me ) while attempting a left turn I accelerated to realize that the car had turned off and I was coasting into the middle of a busy intersection with no way to stop as cars behind me were attempting to turn left also. I attempted to coast off the side of road and out of the intersection as cars were flying around my vehicle, honking their horns and trying to avoid a collision with me. I had a passenger in the car, we were both terrified. The car was still in drive and a warning message appeared that the vehicle must be manually restarted. The cross traffic started to drive through the intersection as I now had put the vehicle in park and restart and get the car out of the intersection and into a safe place. The day prior ( 08/26 ) the car had also shut down on me as I was pulled off the side of the road and attempted a left turn into a driveway ( while working on my job ). I went directly to my dealership and was told they would get me an appt the following week, however the same problem occurred the next day ( 08/27 ) which almost resulted in a crash. I was told by the dealership that it is a start/stop issue, that vw is aware of the problem however there is no fix at this time. I no longer feel safe driving this car. The problem has been reported to vw and a case has been opened. The dealership has had my car for 27 days as of today. They state that they have not been able to duplicate the issue.

15 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 03/22/2022

2016 Volkswagen Tiguan - clock spring is broken & the part is backordered "indefinitely”. My airbags, horn, and steering wheel controls no longer work. Vw wanted to charge me the diagnostic fee ( a little over $100) to put me on the waiting list for a replacement part. Then told me I was over 3000th on the "waiting list". Absolutely unacceptable & a major safety hazard. My car is basically worthless until they start remanufacturing the part. No timeline given for this process. Will vw cover this? I cannot believe this is being allowed & apparently ignored. Check engine light came on early March 2022. Took it to vw to have checked out. Spent $465 on an intake valve hand cleaning, 4 new spark plugs, and a vehicle inspection. No more than a week later I started hearing clicking noises coming from the steering wheel when I turned. One turn caused a loud pop. . . . After that pop, my airbag light dinged on. My airbags do not work (but can deploy at any time?? what), my horn doesn't work, and neither do any steering controls. In sum: no replacement parts are available / told I was over 3000th in line for when they start “remanufacturing” the part / given no timeline of manufacture / told there was nothing I can do. Took the car to a place that specializes in audis & vws. He scanned the car for free and repeated the same thing as vw but put me on two different waiting lists. He said that there are some clock springs available that are made in china and are crap/will not last. He mentioned they could put the “wrong part” in as a replacement for $700 and only the airbag would work, but I would still need to get the correct steering clock from vw put in whenever it’s available. I haven’t decided if I’m going to have that done yet…. But in regards to the correct part, they will call when they have the part but that it would probably be 1. 5- 2 years. Unreal. How is this allowed? what do I do? will the car even pass inspection? can it still be insured? help!!!.

17 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 01/14/2022

So this issue occurs once you remote start your vehicle. If you have remote started your vehicle, you get in the car, activate it by pressing the start/engine on button and go - when you later go to use the adaptive cruise control or standard cruise control the vehicle will fail to activate either cruise control option. The only way to regain control of this feature is to power off the car completely and then restart it without using remote start. This is a known vw issue and there has been no observable action or report about this issue except for discussion with the dealer/service department. It should be noted that this is a non-issue if you do not use the remote start function.

18 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 11/03/2021

I own a 2016 vw Tiguan. I bought in mid 2018 w/30k miles. The clock spring, which controls the drivers airbag, horn & all steering controls has broken 3 times. It has broken once per year since I have had. This is obviously due to a faulty part that keeps being reinstalled. I see years ago that over 1. 2 million people w/vw's were affected. This issue should have been fixed the first time when I brought it in w/74,000 miles on 12/18/2019 or perhaps fixed the second time I brought it in w/95,000 miles on 7/31/2020. Now, it is broken again, a third time and now I'm told too bad, its over 120,000 miles & no longer covered, when I came to bring in on 11/3/2021 (contacted you originally on 9/30/21). No one ever informed me of there being an extended warranty that only lasts until 120,000 miles. I drive 2. 5 hours to make my appt & when I email you to notify you that I am going to be 15 minutes late, only then do I get a call from the service rep when I am down the block from the dealership. He proceeds to tell me that he doesn't have the part for the clock spring. That they are using something "new". I said why couldn't you have told me this earlier?then the rep says, why don't you take your vehicle somewhere closer?I explained that I live in a rural area & that I have always brought my car to this facility & that this is the 3rd time for the same issue. Only then did he ask me the mileage of my vehicle & then began to say vw no longer covers the part. Well, it should have been fixed properly the 2 previous times. The clock ring has broken every year I have had the vehicle. If vw is indeed using a "new" part as the rep stated, then there must be a reason why. This is a safety issue. Due to reinstallation of a faulty part the clock spring continually breaks each year. Vw & the dealership are aware that the part is faulty & this is why vw created an extended warranty on just the clock spring. When I stated this to the vw rep he stated that they cannot do anything about bad parts. Shame on vw.

19 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 10/21/2021

When using the remote start the acc and automatic braking system will fail and give an error. This is a known issue for vw and they have not provided a solutions in over 2 years. To make it work again you need to either turn the car off and back on without remote start or disable the acc before using the remote start.

20 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 10/01/2021

My vw Tiguan was out of alignment, as happens to every car. Unfortunately, the vw dealership informed me that I cannot get a simple alignment for $100 because vw requires calibration of the adaptive cruise control any time an alignment is done. I could not find this anywhere in the owner's manual, nor are there any other warnings on the car or in any paperwork I signed. The vw dealership wanted an additional $400. 00 (for a total exceeding $500) to provide both services. I am concerned about this 1) because vw does not communicate that this is a limitation of the acc system, and 2) while an alignment should be the customer's responsibility to pay for, calibrating the acc system should not. Anyone could go get an alignment done at a tire or brake shop for about $100 - what happens if they try to use their acc afterwards and an accident happens? vw should cover acc calibration as part of the limited warranty, and clearly warn customers not to perform one service without the other.

21 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 08/30/2021

The adaptive cruise control will be working perfectly fine and then it will just stop working. I can be using it all day and then all of a sudden I get in the car and I get up to speed and I go to press the adaptive cruise control button to set it and it starts off trying to set the speed and then all the sudden I get an error saying that it can’t set the speed. However, none of the buttons to try to set it back on track will not do anything you just keep getting the same error code with the little red light on the dashboard with the car in a little parentheses things around it. But if I were to put it in park turn the engine off and then turn it back on it works perfectly fine. It’s been dangerous because that’s happened to me on the interstate and I’ve noticed that it happens quite often when I’m on the interstate so I’m not sure if it’s because of the speed of up to 75 mph that I’m going but it’s also done that when I’ve been going 30 mph and I’ve tried to set it. It’s dangerous because if I have my music up loud I don’t hear the ding and the light on the dashboard doesn’t always catch my attention so I’m assuming that the adaptive cruise control has taken and is working correctly when it’s not. I bought this vehicle brand new on a lease with 100 miles on it and it’s always done it since I purchased the vehicle in September 2021.

22 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 07/25/2021

My adjusting distance / gap configuration is set to "far" but it so far it happened twice while @70 mph speed and the car ahead of me start slowing down and my car was supposed to start adapting, instead it start accelerating which isn't the norm. If I wasn't paying attention I could have rear ended the car in front of me on high speed causing death or major injuries to everyone around me.

23 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 06/07/2021

When using remote start function the following safety function are not operative, not working as advertised by vw, adaptive cruise control, cruise control, automatic/emergency braking, rear cross traffic warning and forward collision warning. I have been trying to get my local vw dealer, vw of corpus christi to repair the issue and the are telling me that it is a "known issue and that vw is working on a fix. This has been the case for over two months now. My concern is that vw is selling vehicles that have a potentially dangerous safety issue and are using they costumers as test dummies. If vw is in fact aware that there vehicles have safety issue, why are they still being allowed to sell them in the us? seriously concerned. . .

24 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 06/05/2021

When the vehicle is started remotely and cruise control was not turned off before turning off the vehicle, the acc system shows an error and fails to engage when the driver tries to set cruise control. If one relies on acc often but does not often use remote start, this situation can lead to improper driver expectations and rear-end collisions as the car doesn’t brake when the driver expects it to. This is a well-known issue at vw dealerships and widely reported by owners on vw forums. Mostly it’s just an annoyance, but today I experienced it as a safety issue.
