My 2010 Tiguan has experienced a couple of significant issues due to design - one a burned fuse box and two a major water leak inside the right front passenger floorboard. Both issues stem from design and not wear and tear. Both repairs were costly - $561 and $753. I have received a safety recall 97z9 from vw for a fuse issue and will be waiting on a response. I've also submitted an inquiry to vw asking about plans to review the drain hose issue. Had I not investigated the strong damp smell in the interior of the vehicle I would not have found the saturated floorboard and I do mean soaking wet. Both drain hoses were found to have small leaks and the route of the hoses dumps right into the cabin - again this is not a wear and tear issue - it's a design/product issue. As a precaution the dealer recommended that I have all of the hoses replaced to prevent future water damage. I've seen numerous complaints from other vw owners about the drain hoses being defective so this appears to be a larger issue than just a few vehicles. Thank you.

First, this exact same scenario also happened in October 2010. The first incident occurred when I was driving the vehicle, and now this time, when my husband was driving the vehicle. Both of us, each have 30+ years of driving experience and neither of us have ever been involved in a crash or experienced this type of loss of control in a vehicle, ever. Both incidents occurred while turning a corner at approximately 5 to 15 mph in approximately 1- 3 inches of new snow. The car slid with total loss of steering and brakes, smashing into the curb, breaking the axle, control arm, steering knuckle, etc. . . There was no control whatsover. This was not ice. This has never ever happened before with any other vehicle we have ever driven. The car did not correct itself even when the steering wheel was released. We believe there is a deficiency in the esp monitoring system. The esp system totally failed while turning. The esp sensors did not detect the situation and did not react at all independent of the driver. The esp system did not use the vehicle's braking system to "steer" the vehicle back on track. The esp did not initiate any braking intervention at all. It was like all systems just totally malfunctioned. Horrible. Someone is going to be seriously hurt. I am thankful another vehicle or person was in the area.

I have a new 2009 vw Tiguan that just hit 10,000 miles as of the date of this complaint. I bought on October 31st, 2009. With the first heat of spring I started the air conditioning unit and there was a terribly rank smell of mold. I took it to local service provider on may 5th who claimed that the drain for the air conditioning unit was clogged and a pool of stagnant water had filled the basin. He didn't know for how long that pool had been there. They cleaned out the basin, replaced the filter, and disinfected the car. One month later and the ventilation system still reeks of mold. In some ways it's worse, because now the odor isn't just when running the ac. It now is there when running normal vents and the smell is staring to ooze into the main compartment. Last night, the 4th of June, it was 85-90 degrees and very humid. During a 15 minute drive the odor was terrible. After arriving home I had a 20 minute coughing spasm. I practically cannot run the ventilation. My next step is to take it back to the original dealer I bought it from, contact vw of north America, and start looking into the local lemon laws.
Mold in air conditioning ductwork of 2009 vw Tiguan is overpowering and causing bronchospasm and allergy (asthmatic and allergic rhinitis/conjunctivitis symptoms.
