The upper control panel housing failed. My safety was put at risk because while driving the panel randomly dropped from my ceiling, blocking my rear view mirror and surprising me. The vehicle has not been looked at by the anyone else other than myself. There are many documented cases online from people experiencing the same kind of situation. There were no warning lights or symptoms that this was going to happen.

To whom it may concern: I wish to report what a believe is a defect in the new Tiguan which is causing the engine to overheat. The check engine light came on the day after we purchased the vehicle. This was due to a part of the lower shutter in the front of the car breaking off, which prohibited the shutter from opening and shutting. It could not cool the engine and thus the engine started to overheat. We are not entirely sure what caused the piece to break, the mechanic said it was likely a rock. We did not get into an accident and in fact had only driven the car once. So I wanted to make this report in case someone else had a similar issue as if this piece is prone to breaking, it could potentially cause other more serious issues.
The rear passenger door won’t latch when it is cold out. The dealership replaced the lock, but it is still happening. I have been stranded multiple times because my door is stuck open.

The overhead console fell down and was hanging by the cables connected to it which control the sunroof motor, sos system, info button, rear interior lights and driver/passenger dome lights. It hangs between driver and passenger at roughly 4 inches from the roof and obscures peripheral vision and usage of the rear-view mirror. Finally, if it occurred while driving it could easily have caused an accident.

The overhead console hangs down with wires blocking my rearview mirror and creating a blind spot on the right mirror. Volkswagon in colorado told me that the console replacement part is on a national back order with no eta at the time. My safety and the safety of others are put at risk because the overhead console swings while I am driving, which is a major distraction. I have to use one hand to keep the overhead console where it's supposed to be so I'm driving with one hand. Additionally, it blocks my view to my right mirror, impeding me from doing lane changes. Yes, it's been confirmed in writing from my local dealer and they are well aware of this problem because it's occurring all over the us with 2020 vw Tiguan cars. Check out this website: [xxx] yes, my Volkswagen dealer has inspected it, however, they did not repair it because they did not have the console part. No, there were no warnings--it happened suddenly and by itself. The overhead console is made of cheap plastic and likely started dangling due to the summer heat waves which weakened the console. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I am writing to report a serious safety concern regarding my Volkswagen Tiguan 2020. The dome light in my vehicle has completely broken off, melting the plastic from the screws, and was hanging by the electrical wires. This issue poses multiple safety hazards: 1. Injury risk: while driving, the dome light unlatched and fell and struck me on the side of my head, causing a distraction and injury. 2. Visibility obstruction: when the dome light is hanging, it completely blocks the view through the windshield and rearview mirror, significantly increasing the risk of an accident. I have taken my vehicle to the dealership, and they confirmed that this is a common problem with this model. They have seen and replaced the dome light on many other vehicles of the same model. Despite this being a known issue, there were no warning lights or indicators to alert me to the impending failure. This indicates that the parts used are faulty and pose a significant safety risk. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue promptly and consider issuing a safety recall for Volkswagen Tiguan 2020 vehicles to prevent potential accidents and injuries. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter.
I am getting 2 warning messages- fault electronic parking brake and error driver door contact switch. The car seems to think my door is open and therefore turns on the emergency brake for safety. This has happened when I am parked and also when I am driving.
There is an excessive amount of water leaking into the passenger compartment and also the cargo area the result is that considerable mold growing on the carpeting of the entire car the dealer has ordered repair parts but the parts are on back order leaving me to drive the vehicle while it has mold I have been advised if I remove the molded carpeting I will invalidate the warranty very dangerous as occupying this vehicle results in inhaling mold.

The sunroof/moonroof glass shattered while my daughter was driving on the highway, causing glass to fall down on her while driving. She stated that it sounded like a gunshot, then glass was breaking while driving. She was upset and crying, which could easily have caused an accident if it weren't that it happened in the evening. The car scheduled to be repaired I contacted the vw dealership and they stated there were no recalls. No warning.

Windshield provided cracks super easily.
The 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan has a problem with the sunroof leaking and floors being filled with puddles of water in entire car. This have caused the water to cause electrical problems with the vehicle as well as meadow and mold.
I suffered a front-end collision on 11/15/2022 in my 2017 vw Tiguan. I was going on I-66 in virginia 40-45mph back to college at howard university, and a car stopped suddenly after being cut off, but it was raining horribly and I was in half a foot of water, so even with braking, I hydroplaned into the vehicle in front of me, causing insubstantial damage to them but very significant damage to my vehicle as well as whiplash.

Sunroof lets water in and floods in car causing electrical problems, mold, rust, ruining roof interior and carpets. The air bag and horn stopped working and clock spring needs to be replaced. I had no prior warning of that these problems would occur. I have spent thousands of dollars in repairs for electrical trying to figure out why the car stopped working and also how water was getting into car when there is no leaks around the sunroof. This puts the safety of my family as well as others on the road when my car breaks down. I wasn't able to drive my car for months during the winter because the area around the fuel tank froze from rain water sitting in area unknown.

The overhead console in the vehicle detached on its own in October 2022 and will not stay secured. This has prevented my ability to see out of the front windshield and therefore hindered my safe operation of the vehicle. The dealer confirmed the issue but would not cover it under warranty, claiming that it was my fault for installing a dash camera. However, no wires are near the roof liner and the installation of my dash camera has nothing to do with the overhead console. The dealership then charged me $155 plus tax for this "assessment". Please see the attached files showing this is a known issue with the vehicle that Volkswagen will not properly address and cover. I have contacted vw customer service multiple times by us mail and have still not received any type of response.
The vehicle has a class action suit for leaking sunroof that soaks the entire floor board of the vehicle. This happened to us and was repaired in 2023. It happened again currently and it is proving to be a defect of the build of the vehicle. This is happened to thousands of people all over the USA. This needs to be an official recall. They are trying to charge us $1000 because the warranty doesn’t cover the flooding the defect causes. Kuhn wv in tampa is who has the car and they get this problem all the time. This is systemic and NHTSA must do something about it and force vw to recall the vehicles with sunroof issues.
Fuel door actuator intermittently jams prevents access to the fuel nozzle. Yes, the car was off and locks disengaged. I had to spend $304. 00 have the part replaced so that I can fuel my car. I researched this issue online vw drivers across models have experienced this issue.

The car was parked outside during the summer. Opened the car door and noticed the entire overhead console above the driver had detached, and was broken, hanging head high by the wire connections. The plastic is broken around the screws that usually hold it into place, so it cannot be reattached without getting a replacement part installed. Driving is dangerous when this occurs as the entire console sways back and forth in front of the driver, hitting them, which in turn obstructs visibility through front windshield, internal and exterior rearview mirrors and is an overall distraction/hazard to the driver. Also cannot utilize overhead lights and other functionality while the overhead console is detached. No warnings or way of predicting this from occurring. This is the second time this has occurred in the span of 1 year to this vehicle. Had dealership install new overhead console after this happened the first time.
The contact leased a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that while his wife was entering the vehicle, she noticed the overhead console was loose. While his wife was driving at unknown speeds in high temperatures, the vehicle's overhead console detached from the roof. The contact was unable to utilize the lights, blue tooth, sunroof and other features on the console. The wires were exposed. There were no reported injuries. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where they informed them that the parts were backordered but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, covina Volkswagen 528 s citrus Ave, covina, CA 91723, where the console was disconnected. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 34,799.
The front passenger door locking system does not function properly. The door intermittently is unable to be unlocked or opened from the outside and must manually be opened from the inside. The door also intermittently doesn't lock. This is a safety concern for thieves. If in immediate danger, ie. Accident, no one is able to open the passenger door to access the person. No indication lights appear on the vehicle.
Sunroof drains are not draining correctly causing vehicle to flood when there is precipitation, flooring is wet/molded, seat belts have mold on them, unpleasant smell, and condensation collects on the windows. Also causing water marks/stains on vehicles exterior body.

The gas door on the vehicle would not open. It is locked when the vehicle is locked, and is unlocked when the vehicle is unlocked. The gas door opens by pushing the door, and the door will pop open. After repeatedly locking and unlocking the vehicle, the gas door still would not open. I ended up prying the door open, breaking it off in the process.
Driving down the highway with my kids in the car and the sunroof shattered. No was around driving near me, nothing was hit, no other damage on my vehicle. The sunroof just exploded with my 4 children in the car. Now im 1,000 miles away from home.
After owning this vehicle for about a month (and 50 of my miles, 526 total), this new vehicle was taken to the local dealer for a rattle/vibration coming from an area behind the left ear of the driver. The vehicle has now been at the dealer for over a week and is not expected to be returned for at least another 5-7 days. After doing some research I have found that this issue has existed on vw Tiguan's since at least 2018. . Read more...
Door latch malfunctions required multiple visits to mechanic to diagnose. Locked and unlocked randomly. As in would lock me out or in the vehicle requiring I use an alternate door (not driver door) to exit my vehicle. Emergency break assist engages in gutters and driveways. Essentially anything that isn't flat terrain may result in the Tiguan slamming on the breaks for you coming to a complete stop. Even when approaching dips, gutters, driveways or different inclines you have a very likely chance of the emergency system engaging breaks.
On 12mar2021 we took possession of our 2021 Tiguan r-line in which we purchased new from vw chatham ontario canada. On 13 March 2021 we were driving home around 8pm on highway 21 at a speed of 85 kilometres towards thamesville, ontario, temperature was 2 deg celsius, windows were rolled up sunroof closed and sunroof screen was completely open when all of a sudden a loud bang ear ringing happened and the driver my fianc and I were covered in small pieces of glass. We immediately pullover and looks up and found that the front panoramic section of the sunroof had exploded. I am 100% certain that a rock did not cause this as the road was empty no other cars. My fianc was extremely rattled and very upset. I opened the doors to see if any foreign object was inside the vehicle and nothing was present. The amount of glass inside the vehicle was significantly less then the amount of glass missing from the sunroof. We closed the sunroof screen and drove home another 4 kilometres. When we arrived home we pulled the vehicle into the garage and inspected the sunroof. What I seen was very disturbing as the glass remaining was billed away from the vehicle confirming the glass exploded away from the vehicle not into the vehicle.
This is the basic s model. We intentionally purchased this base model to exclude the hi-tech options known to fail. We wanted an ignition key to eliminate the necessity of a fob and push button start. We were not made aware of the fact you cannot lock this vehicle without using the door fob they provided!! we were led to believe it was a convenience to lock and unlock but not necessary. With our other vehicles once outside of the vehicle, we will press the electric door lock button to lock the lock, close door and doors locks. Vw does not allow the locks to be activated unless door is closed which means if you do not use fob, the doors remain unlocked! after about 3 months of ownership we realized we were not locking this vehicle when exiting. This is a safety and theft issue.
The latch from the trunk stopped working and the trunk doesn't close.

The contact owns a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that on three separate occasions, the upper overhead console had detached from the headliner. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer on all three occasions and had the part replaced under warranty. Recently, the contact stated that the failure returned where the console was hanging from the headliner three wires. The contact stated that the console obstructed her vision of the rearview mirror and side mirrors. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed her that parts for the repair were on backorder. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.
My car has had a water leak from the panoramic sunroof. I saw the water coming in from the back passenger seatbelt holes on both sides of the car. I brought the car in to get fixed, I was never toldwhat the issue was and had to ask for official paperwork. Apparently the sunroof drain lines were "kinked and clogged. " my car was in service 7/28/20-7/30/20 for that issue. There was significant mold growth on the rear floorboards and smelled of mildew. I noticed severe condensation on all interior windows 8/4/20 and made an appointment to get my car looked at 8/6/20. I could not drive the car right away since I could not see out of the windows. I had to physically dry them with a towel. I was then told they could not find a leak, but there was still water entering the car and the floorboards were wet. The car has been in the shop since. Another car was in service for the same exact issue while I was there, I witnessed the mold myself. I researched my VIN and there was no recalls or service bulletins from vw.
While driving at approx 30 mph slowing down for a red light, on a city street, the panoramic sunroof exploded. Nothing struck the car, no other traffic was within 200 yards, and nothing above. It sounded like a pop, then glass shards fell in rear passenger seating area. No one was injured. Sunroof is raised up, indicating pressure forced it up as opposed to something hitting from above.
Seatbelts are wet and moisture is building up in the car after heavy rain while sunroof and all doors closed and car is parked. Possibly a sunroof draining issue. Seatbelts mainly affected are in the rear, particularly rear-passenger - but front belts affected also. Water also observed in rear door wells and on front driver's window post (left of windshield). Seatbelts smell damp and are so wet that they are uncomfortable to wear and would leave water on clothes,.
The moon roof spontaneously combusted while driving on the I-95 while in motion traveling from NY to fla. I believe due to extensive heat, then a small 3 minute east coast rain storm. Nothing hit it, it was not in use, no one was in front of me. The moonroof exploded and shattered into a gazillion little glass pieces sending shards of glass literally everywhere, including embedded in my arms, neck, back, hands, legs, and feet and covering my scalp and covering every surface and crevice with tiny shards of glass. I was stranded in the middle of SC with no support from vw, and needed to purchase a hotel for 2 nights stay. I also have small children that I have in the vehicle often who luckily during this trip we're not in the vehicle. I have also done further research that vw has been aware of this spontaneous exploding moonroof defect and has not recalled these models. There is a class action lawsuit against this as vw is aware of this and neglected to tell me upon purchase 6 months ago. As of right now vw corporate has not made urgency of this devastating and traumatic matter.
I was driving on the highway and my panoramic sunroof exploded causing glass to fall in on myself and my 5 year old daughter.
Leaking from panoramic moonroof, water coming from pipe draine tubes and dripping into back into seatbelts compartment that freeze seatbelts during cold weather and I can not pull seatbelts out to buckle up. Also at the same time water coming into trunk making area where wiring sistem going through all wet . Vw dealer fixed it once by and it happend second time again. My car is in the shop now and this problem will just keep going on in my opinion forever until car eventually die because of water going onto wiring .
