Front coil spring fractured at 84,554 miles. I am the original owner with full dealer-maintained service history. Vw issued safety recall 42j5 for premature rear coil spring fracture on 2018–2019 Tiguans due to material specification and manufacturing process defects at the spring supplier. The front springs on this vehicle came from the same supply chain and production window. Vw dealer in [xxx] noted that spring failures are common in this area on these vehicles. Vw customer care declined goodwill assistance. Requesting investigation into expanding recall 42j5 to include front axle coil springs. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

This vehicle experienced a rear shock spring failure identical to the symptoms noted in vw recall 42i7. We paid out of pocket for the springs to be repaired, and vw corporate along with the dealer reported this VIN does not qualify for the recall. They are unable to tell me why our particular VIN does not, other than it simply wasn't on the list. It seems unlikely the exact year/model/failure occurred on our vehicle as what was stated in the recall but somehow it didn't qualify I would expect vw to cover the spring replacement and required alignment.
I purchased this vehicle on August 9th 2025 and it has been in shop 4 times . It is in the shop as I am writing this email. I have had nothing but issues with this vehicle and had to come out of pocket 308 dollars just to find out a problem that I told them that already was an issue the first week I had the car . I am a senior on a fixed income and I cant afford to pay anything more out of pocket . I filed a complaint with the bbb and a represented from the service department called me and said , his boss said they will not work on my car unless I remove my complaint to the bbb . I find this very unethical and a bad customer service representation. This car has been diagnosed unsafe to drive . And even though I have a loaner it is not my car I am paying for . Like I had stated it has been in the shop 4 times and I have not missed a payment even though I have not had my car . The front strut is completely broke , the left one is in bad shape , needs a front end alignment and the front collision warning alert does not work . It has been confirmed these issues are there. They said they were going to take care of it until they noticed I filed a complaint to the bbb.

I originally started out at world kia in matteson, where I was approved for a newer vehicle. But then they suddenly changed their minds and tried to put me in an older car instead. That rubbed me the wrong way, so I went to their joliet location hoping for better service. Boy, was I wrong. Even though they had already run my credit in matteson, they reran it again in joliet, which made no sense and damaged my credit even more. I really needed a car at the time, so I felt pressured and couldn’t walk away. After I bought the car, it broke down shortly after, and I was never given any paperwork about its condition or inspection. They sold it to me “as-is,” but I later found out that under illinois law, used cars must be safe and reliable for at least 15 days or 500 miles, even when sold “as-is. ” my car didn’t meet that standard at all. The car has suspension issues which is very dangerous. The mechanic stated to not drive the car at all it's a safety hazard and I could cause a major accident. There is no recall on my VIN#, but several other owners have had the same issues based of the information on the website. I just want some kind of resolution. I'm still responsible for the car, which is so unfair. This has caused so much stress that I have no clue what to do. Please help. Best, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The suspension components inclusive of struts and knuckles corroded and cracked causing the suspension to collapse in the front and rear of the vehicle. Luckily the suspension didn't collapse while driving and has not resulted in any injuries. The dealership (gunther vw in fort lauderdale, florida) inspected and replaced the front suspension but left the rear suspension untouched after certifying the integrity. 2 weeks later, the rear suspension collapsed.

The motor mounts failed and need to be replaced, the car has never been in an accident or even driven in harsh conditions. There is another part that failed in the engine which causes it to leak oil. The vehicle has a hard time accelerating intermittently.

I am writing a complaint in reference to safety code recall : 42j5 April 10, 2019. I bought my vehicle at shearer vw in soouth burlington vt on June 1, 2019. When I bought my vehicle I wasn't informed of any recalls. I took my vehicle to montpelier Volkswagen to get an oil change on Dec. 22, 2023 and was informed that I had a broken rear axle coil spring and bushings that needed to be replaced . I was given an estimate and appointment for Jan. 12, 2024. In talking with my local mechanic to try to get an earlier repair (both him and montpelier vw tell me that my car is a safety hazard with these problems. ) my local mechanic found this safety recall and advised me to see if my vehicle was ever checked for defects. My vehicle year, make and model are listed in this recall. I have talked to vw customer care and shearer vw where I bought my car and neither can answer my questions. Shearer vw did not know such a recall ever existed. My questions are: where was my vehicle when this recall came out? was my car on the list for repair because of the problem stated in the recall 42j5? was my car checked for this safety recall? if it was checked, did parts get replaced or not? I think this was a serious recall and for vw to have no knowledge of this recall really bothers me. How can I get questions answered? my coil spring has broken and it does make me wonder if it had anything to do with a defect in materials or problems in the spring productiion process? maybe not but I want answers. I have owned many vehicles and never had coil springs and bushings go like this . I do have 82,00 miles on my car now but other vehicles lasted through 100,000 miles + without any problems with this. I have now spoken to numerous indivuals who have had the same kind of issues with their vw's. Vw is offering me nothing but a big bill for repairs. And I am driving a very unsafe vehicle. Can you please help me get answers ? I think all vw dealerships should know about recall.

Daughter was driving at roughly 20 miles an hour when right front suspension collapsed causing her to lose control and striking a parked vehicle. Lower part of strut that connects to drive shaft was sheared in half causing complete loss of steering. The tire was pushed back against the the fender well which in my estimation caused tire to blow. Parts are available for inspection. A tire blow out at that speed should not cause strut to break and impact on parked car was minimal. Failed component has not been inspected by anyone. There was no warning of any issue. I did complain to dealer of slight suspension noise while turning but they could not find any issues.
I had a coolant leak and needed to replace the water pump. My control arms were corroded out at 67k miles and needed to be replaced.

Car has 50k miles on it. Around 35k miles I started hearing noises in the suspension. Took it in and my tires are wearing uneven and bubbling. Mechanic told me my shocks are bad. I know there was a recall on some 2018 Tiguans for poor welding of shocks. Not sure if there is a bigger problem affecting more Tiguans.
The contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that upon servicing his vehicle at an independent mechanic, he was informed that both rear springs had developed severe corrosion that needed replacement. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where he was informed that rain and snow had collected inside the springs causing the corrosion. The contact had the driver’s side lower control arm and both rear springs replaced by the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure online but offered no assistance. The vehicle had been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

The car has had 10 safety recalls with one being the suspension. The suspension problem hasn’t been fixed as the car makes a loud clunking noise when driving it. My car has been to Volkswagen twice and they stated that the car was fine and they have no solution for the sound. This really needs to investigated. I googled the noise to see what it was and there are a lot of people that are complaining about this noise. I just bought my car and I’m literally about to trade it in because of this.
We were driving on a highway and all of a sudden felt/heard a loud bang causing the car to swerve. We slowed down and there was a continuous loud rattling sound. We brought the car to the dealership and they told us the coil springs were fractured. Had to pay for the replacement- $2,825. 73. Then we learned that the later models were recalled, but not this one. Then I heard that there was a recall from 2019 onwards, but nothing for our model year. We asked them to talk to Volkswagen and they said it was not worth it as they would not do anything about it. Something is not right.
The driver side rear coil spring snapped at 103,000 miles. We just returned from a road trip and are lucky it occurred in the driveway. There was a loud bang when it occurred. The car had to be towed for replacement of both coil springs.

The car was shut down by keyless ignition and the fob was removed when I entered a building. After 15 minutes it rolled away and hit a sculpture and rolled over. I as the driver failed to place the transmission in park or someone tampered with the car as someone was spotted in the car after it flipped over. My complaint is that when the car is shut down I believe it should have immobilized regardless of the shifter as I shut off the engine exited the vehicle. Keyless ignition safety in relation to rollaways in this model is not sufficient.
I purchased a brand new 2018 vw Tiguan from a car dealership in my town. Two weeks later they called me and asked me to bring it back in to have it inspected for a possible recall. After an hour of sitting around waiting for them to check I finally went to their desk and asked what was going on. They told me that mine was recalled and they couldn't let me leave with my car. Then they spent 2 hours trying to figure out what to do because they weren't sure if they should get me a rental car or a loaner. Eventually they got me a rental car and are covering the cost of that. But now I'm looking into the specific recall 42i7 and it would seem that the recall may have been in place prior to them selling me the car. I test drove the car on may 3rd 2018 and submitted a loan application. I came back the next day may 4th 2018 to sign the papers and take delivery of the car. I want to know if the dealer broke state of WI laws by selling me a new car with a dangerous recall out for it. Now I have to wait a month for parts to come in. Can I take some sort of action against my dealership for this?.
We currently have an issue with our braking system in our 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan. At low speeds the car does not brake properly. The car will loose its ability to brake and will make a loud grinding sound. This happens at random times and the car manufacture cannot seem to replicate the issue. Our concern is that we have taken it to volkwagen twice; on the first occasion they said there was no issue and on the second occasion they said it was a brake seal issue. The issue is still occurring and now they are making statements that an outside influence may have cause this issue. We have asked them to repurchase the car due to this safety issue, but they have refused and we are attempting to fix it again today. We also have issues with the paint on the car and the sirrius xm radio. Although these last two issues are smaller, I am concerned that Volkswagen has sold a car that may have electrical issues, as well.
