1 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2004 Volvo S40

Failure Date: 03/09/2011

The contact owns a 2004 Volvo S40. While the contact started the ignition, the air bag warning indicator began to illuminate continuously until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where the front driver's side air bag was replaced. One year later, after the repair was performed the failure recurred. The air bag was replaced for a second time. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

2 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Volvo S40

Failure Date: 08/24/2010

2006 Volvo S40 passenger side air bag sensor is malfunctioning. When a passenger is sitting in the passenger seat, the airbag light saying that the airbag is off is often illuminated, but not always. The dealer has told me that they have encountered this problem on several 2006, 2007, and 2008 models. They initially told me that this was normal behavior. They are now investigating since I have raised the safety concern of being in the passenger seat and not having the airbag deploy. This is the third time we have had our car in for this problem. The dealer is working with Volvo to fix this problem, but it seems like there may be a number of defective sensors out there.

3 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2004 Volvo S40

Failure Date: 02/06/2009

The event leading up to the failure is simply a defective part after some usage due to a poor welding job at manufacture. Volvo has only recalled one vehicle to my knowledge but they needed to recall all vehicles during that year. The failure is the car has a hard time stopping when the brakes are applied the care continues to move and rough engine idle. The parts that were replaced were the vacuum pump and valve at brake booster, hoses, lines and fittings. Repair cost $840. The air bag light has continued to come on/off since the purchase of the car. It is defective. The drivers side sips bag needs replacing total cost $801.

4 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2004 Volvo S40

Failure Date: 09/18/2004

Multiple failures. Air bag system, problem starting and noise in steering. The vehicle also had an air condition problem. The air bag light illuminated on 3 occasions. The consumer stated the passenger seat was equipped with a device that weighed passengers to determine if the air bag should be activated.
