Car stalls with out warning when travel at speeds of 0-65 mph very dangerous!! there are recalls fuel pressure sensors for nearly all Volvo makes except the S40 2005 this part is truly a defective item and needs to be recalled before a death occurs on the highway!! I thought Volvo was a safe reliable car but I can honestly say this car is the biggest piece of junk I have ever spent a lot if money on. The tires blew out on the sides which also put me in danger the interior headliner fell off as well as all other material on the doors all leather is loose gear shifter cover fell apart. Gas cap broke gas builds too much pressure loosening the gas cap frequently these are just some of the issues I have. Very disappointed in this vehicle I keep my car in the garage. Only drive to and from grocery shopping and dr appts please consider recalls on the important parts of the vehicle that can save lives!.

I have a 2001 Volvo, model S40. During the last six months, I've experienced a stalled car engine -- especially when the car is idling at a stop light. When the stall happens, I must floor the accelerator to restart the engine again. This problem is the same as those already reported to the NHTSA for other Volvo models for the years 1999 to 2001.
Vehicle being reported is a 2002 Volvo S40 sedan. Traveling on us route 13 south of dover, DE. And slowed down for a traffic light in medium traffic from a speed of approximately 55 mph. Vehicle stalled without warning during deceleration. Vehicle restarted with some effort. At next light, situation repeated itself - vehicle stalled without warning during deceleration. Placed transmission in neutral to coast while attempting to restart. Vehicle restarted only when accelerator was partially depressed causing engine to rev up. Vehicle continued to stall when speed dropped to approximately 25-30 mph unless the accelerator was depressed to maintain engine rpm while brakes were being applied to slow vehicle down. Critical situation traveling in area with low speed limits and traffic control devices such as stop signs and traffic lights. Vehicle was taken to local Volvo dealer who determined that a device that controls the air going into the engine was at fault. Repairs were made at a total cost of $600.
