5 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2013

Driving home after purchasing the car (yeah), I was turning into a parking lot, so my speed was descending and the car stalled. I wrote it off as my fault because it did not happen again until 3 months later. Within the past 3 weeks the car has stalled while in motion approx. 6 times. Volvo stated the recalled part for this issue was replaced in 2009. I notified the dealer and have a appointment for repair, at my expense because it was already replaced. Meanwhile I will not drive the car due to the lack of safety. Wish I would have researched the car model before purchase.

6 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2012

While driving @ approximately 40 mph the vehicle mentioned above loss power and stalled, restart the car and again it stalled. Driver was able to drive home and parked the car.

7 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2012

When turning a corner, the engine stopped, steering stopped working and lights on dashboard come on. This happened a second time two days later. Took to independent mechanic and he checked all work he had done in the past plus checked the whole car out and he could not find why the car stopped. Two days later the car again stalled out when in traffic - engine stopped, steering stopped working and lights on dashboard came on. Last two times this happened I was driving on a straight road. This has happened 5 times now in the last week. All times engine stopped working, I was driving between 10 and 40 miles per hour. After researching this problem, I found out that my vehicle had been recalled and at 53,333 miles the fuel pressure sensor was replaced by the dealer. Now 42,000 miles later it appears that it is once again the fuel pressure sensor. This is very dangerous especially since I do a lot of highway driving and also live in an area where children have been know to run out into the street. Not only is there a possibility of a car accident, but also the possibility of a child being hit if I cannot turn the car quickly to avoid the child. At this point I am afraid to drive the car and fell very unsafe even though Volvos are know for their safety. After reading numerous reports of many people having this problem with their 2004 S60 Volvos it makes me wonder why Volvo is not correcting this problem on all 2004 Volvo S60s that are having this same problem. My mechanic is checking on this problem and will replace next week if this is the real issue. Sometimes doors lock for no reason at all. Also I have had to replace the rear lights on this vehicle several times. Seems much more than normal.

8 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2011

2004 Volvo S60 stalled suddenly when turning. It has has stalled when pulling from a stop sign. Both incidents occured around with 100,000 miles on teh car. Complete loss of power, steering, and braking. Vehicle taken to dealer and was told there was a problem with the fuel pressure sensor. There is a recall fps for the same year, make and model as my car, however, I was told that my VIN# is not included in the recall. Problem has yet to be fixed.

9 Car Stall problem

10 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2010

1. Reference - odi id number : 10348993 the car stalled again on the highway and I was able to manage to pull over safely. 2. This time it was diagnosed with the fuel pressure sensor. The dealer and Volvo customer care rep stated that the recall is not applicable to the car because the last 6-digit VIN [xxx] is out of range of 335112 to 372809. The Volvo customer care rep also stated there is no guarantee if the problem will not happen again within the 12 month part warranty after it's fixed. I feel very unsafe driving the car now, not knowing when the problem occurs again and could cause a fatal crash. 3. Dealer replaces fuel pressure regulator.

11 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2010

1. Vehicle stalled 2 times, last year and on 08/09/2010 while driving on highway. I was able to restart both time. The second time I was able to restart after 5 minutes and drive to the nearby the Volvo store dealership. 2. The dealership diagnosed the problem and determined the battery was the issue. However I see 2 recall campaign id numbers: 09v483000 and 07v226000 which may be the root cause of the problem. I talked to the service manager at the Volvo store dealership (1051 w. Webster Ave, winter park, FL 32789 - 407-628-0550) but the dealership won't look at it because they said my car is not shown up for recall in their Volvo database. 3. Replace the battery.

12 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2010

At any given time the vehicle stalls. I loose all power and have to restart the car. I've taken the car to the dealer they don't give me an answer. Finally they gave me a list of items that say may be the problem, but are not sure it's the problem.

13 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2009

2004 S60 Volvo stalls while driving. Most recent occurrence stalled while turning, forcing the driver to drive off the road to avoid traffic. Car has been known to stall multiple times day. . . Dashboard lights up at time of occurrence and engine stops. . . Power steering fails. Difficult to control when it occurs because of this.

14 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2009

2004 Volvo S60, stalls /cuts-off while driving for no reason. Dealer unable to diagnosis problem.

15 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2009

Displays "check engine" most of the time and downloads to a fuel pressure sensor. Auto hesitates periodically and has on 4 separate occasions stalled completely. 07v226000 has a recall for this exact problem but Volvo says my VIN not affected. Seems from seeing other complaints with same problem that Volvo underestimated their problem.

16 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2007

I have a 2004 Volvo S60. In the past one year it keeps stalling both in motion and when going into drive from park. This creates a dangerous situation while operating the vehicle, especially when in motion at highway speeds. I have taken the vehicle to Volvo authorized service twice with no resolution. The last stall was on August 30, 2007 resulting in the car being towed to Volvo service. A recall was issued on 2004 s40 due to a similar complaint, but I was told that the recall did not apply since the vehicle was an all wheel drive.

17 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2007

2004 Volvo S60 2. 5 turbo: no warning to the events. On numerous occasions, the car feels as if it has hit a large object, temporarily lurches and appears to momentarily stall creating a temporary loss of vehicle control. This is followed by an immediate loss of all instrument gauges, air conditioner, window controls and door locks. The fan did continue to work. The abs warning light also indicated as well as a warning that no brakes function existed. The srs service air bag urgent indication is illuminated. On turning the car off and restarting, the functions of the car return with exception that the srs service air bag urgent indication remains. This problem can take months to repeat or only a matter of minutes. It seems to be more prevalent in hot weather. The vehicle was taken to the service shop at the Volvo dealer and they could only clear alarms as they said the event created too many alarms/fault codes to troubleshoot. They downloaded new software revisions to each control module in the car. After a period of approximately a month, the events began occurring again. The vehicle has been taken to non oem mechanics as well and they are not able to troubleshoot the fault. The vehicle is scheduled to be taken to the dealers service shop again. Searching the internet chat rooms and blogs, as well as this site, there appears to be numerous other vehicles with this same safety fault that stalls vehicles in traffic and creates very sudden and severe lurches in power ultimately leading to a momentary stall out with loss of all instrument indications to include speed, rpm, turn indicator, etc.
