I received a previous recall notice for the backup camera not working and visited the dealership on August 19, 2025 to recieve the software update that was supposed to fix this problem. Since receiving the fix, I have continued to have the same intermittent interruption of the backup camera as I was having before the "fix". I do not believe the software fix helped the issue and this feels like an underpowered hardware issue.

Urgent safety concern: intermittent total loss of all vehicle audio alerts this issue has occurred multiple times and poses a serious safety concern. While driving, the vehicle intermittently experiences a complete loss of all audio output. This includes: •turn signal indicators •hazard warning sounds •blind spot monitoring alerts •park distance control tones •navigation guidance •audio system playback (music, radio, etc. ) •all other safety-related audio warnings and notifications the vehicle becomes completely silent, eliminating essential auditory cues that are critical for safe operation. Temporary workaround (while driving): the only way to restore functionality is by performing a forced reboot of the infotainment system. This requires the driver to press and hold the home button until the system power cycles—a distracting and unsafe action that must be done while the vehicle is in motion. Please note that while rebooting does not disable the vehicle’s ability to drive, it temporarily resets multiple core systems, including the climate control and infotainment interface. This creates a significant distraction and impairs the driver’s ability to safely monitor vehicle status and surroundings. This malfunction poses a significant safety risk and must be investigated immediately.

Vehicle will randomly lose all audio. A safety issue since audio from turn signals is mute.
Impossible to see with backup camera at night in a low-light area. It's like not having a camera. This was never a problem with my 2015 Volvo S60 and is not a problem with my wife's 2014 Volvo xc60. The problem is that the touchscreen/dashboard brightness needs to be lowered at night so that it's not too bright. Either the screen needs to get brighter, temporarily, when backing up at night or the camera needs to provide a brighter image. Previous Volvo backup camera implementations did not have this issue. Volvo has been aware of this problem and has no fix. This is a safety issue, I e. , like not having a backup camera at night.
I reported this issue last year when my car was just barely outside of the extended service plan agreement we had on the car. I had called the dealership with similar issues as well way before hand. My infotainment system which controls all and I mean all of the safety features I paid/am still paying for no longer works. It’s a known issue with Volvo they know and so do other mechanics. Prior to this my instrument panel completely blanked out:went black for a minute while driving. Thankfully the car never shut off but I called them they said see if it happens again and that was that. I only really have my blindspot indicators working everything else doesn’t. With that I lost access to my back up camera, and proximity sensors.

The indirect measurement tpms system of this car has misdetected low tire pressure on three occasions. Most recently, on October 3 while driving on the freeway at about 70 mph the tpms alert illuminated. I checked the information screen and the display showed low pressure in all four tires. Because I have had misdetection of the right front tire twice before, and that it seemed very unlikely that all four tires would deflate at the same time, I disregarded the alert as a false detection. Later I checked the air pressure in all four tires and found it to be exactly correct. In an earlier episode, as I mentioned the tpms alerted that the right front tire was low. In this instance, I did not have a history of false detections, so I believed the information to be accurate and immediately exited the freeway and returned home where I had a (very accurate) tire pressure gauge. Of course, the pressure was correct in all tires. I then followed the Volvo recalibration procedure and this completed successfully until later that day when the same tire alerted to low pressure again. I rechecked, again pressure was correct, and re-ran the calibration procedure. I did not have any other false detection again until about a year later when the October 3 incident occurred. The car has had at least one “total system update” to the software to address other issues since the first false detection incident, possibly two (not sure). The problem I am having with this is that Volvo apparently decided to change from direct sensor measurement to indirect wheel speed measurement around 2019 or 2020 as a cost saving measure. That is fine, but the indirect measurement system they are using is causing so many false alarms that now the first thing I think when I see an alert is that it is not a real problem. This is not a good situation. Volvo forums are full of complaints by other owners of similar false alarms. Volvo should fix this problem through software or restore direct measurement.
Yesterday I took my one year old granddaughter to north carolina, which is an hour and a half drive away. We had breakfast with family members and I loaded her into the back seat. When I closed the door it looked as if the door closed, but as I began to drive, the door swung open. I attempted to close the door again, and the latch would not connect to the hook inside of the driver side rear door. I ended up needing to have my son sit in the back seat and hold the door closed the entire ride home (an hour and a half) to make sure that the door would not open again. I am currently driving my "new" car with a ratchet strap going from door to door to hold the door closed so that I can go to work. I found information stating that there was a recall on the Volvo S60 (2017) but when I enter my VIN nothing displays. I just bought the vehicle in February and the dealership is telling me that this will cost me $450 to repair on my max care warranty. Why? when the vehicle had a recall on it in 2020 that obviously was never addressed, prior to me purchasing it.
Backup camera will fail to work, on occasion, when car put into reverse. This problem is known by Volvo and I have been told "they are working on it. " searching the internet I see that this has been an issue since late 2022. I have brought my car to the dealer two times and the problem remains. The last time this happened was 2 days ago (did not drive the car yesterday). . Read more...

The child safety lock is not engaged. The door latches on the rear right passenger door in my car has failed. It fails to unlock when from the inside. In an emergency situation. Passengers won't be able to exit the vehicle quickly. The problem can be reproduced and there are current door latch recalls in other models but it needs to extend out these models too. It has not been inspected by police but. Again there is a recall for similar models. The recall should extend out to these models. No warning signs.
I was driving my 2013 Volvo S60 t5 when I felt a sudden, sharp pain in my hand and started bleeding. After safely stopping, I discovered that the chrome trim on the steering wheel had detached from the steering wheel itself and caused a minor cut on my finger. Upon further inspection, I found that the trim is secured to the steering wheel with an adhesive that deteriorates over time, and the trim itself has sharp metal edges.

The 360 view camera works wonderfully with sufficient light. In dark or dimly lit areas, the camera is totally dark and unusable. Parking in a dark parking lot or area is not possible using the camera. When I was trying to park between the parking lines in the rain in early morning I had to get out of the car to see if I was in the lines. I have taken the car back to the dealer and they state that there are no issues with the camera system. Many owners on Volvo forums state similar issues. I can provide pictures upon request.
While driving on a highway the car went from drive into neutral all by itself and I could not put it into drive. Managed to get to a break down lane and turned car off and on. It started normally in drive, but that only lasted for 30 seconds when it went back into neutral. I was close to my exit and this happened multiple times - was in drive and it went into neutral on its own! very dangerous. Car was picked up by Volvo assist and towed away last night. Car is 7 months old car with 3800 miles on it. It was towed to the dealer where it was purchased and we are waiting to hear something about cause/fix etc.
Driver side door latch does not clamp to secure the door.
I bought used S60 and sent car to auto shop due to engine seize . I was told the engine needed to be replaced. I has replacement done. Car ran good and I was pleased. Months later, the vehicle made a clicking noise when I arrived home. When I checked the oil the following morning, there was no oil in car. I was never given a low oil level indication or warning. Now car is making crazy tapping sounds. I.
It has come to my attention my 2014 Volvo S60 has a well known and documented problem of excessive oil consumption internally. It has to do with the pistons and the pump rings and is well known by Volvo since 2013. It is not a leak but an issue with the manufacture which seems like an obvious reason to recall and make them fix it. How do we not know more crashes or fires aren't caused from this when the company is clearly trying to cover it up??!! I was not aware of it before I purchased the vehicle but received a letter from Volvo stating the issue and the extended warranty will be added from 8 years or 100,000 miles. However, the years start from when the vehicle was first sold, in my case 8/31/13 so even though I have not exceeded the 100k miles they will not fix my problem. They quoted me $9k for the repair and claimed they could do nothing else about it. How can it be a company knows for years this is an issue and doesn't warn buyers nor do they do anything to try and remedy the issue until they see a class action lawsuit coming. . ???? the NHTSA must get involved to help consumers. This is a widley known and docuemnted issue. If I was not aware or cared about my car other then the scheduled oil change it could blow up and injure me or another driver easily if their is no oil in the car. That is absolutely unacceptable. How can you allow this to not be recalled? it has been known and is allowed to not be remedied? they are even reimbursing people who had already paid for this repair so it seem obvious they know its now right but until someone forces them to fix it, they can just quietly fix the bare minimum. The fact it is not known to the public should alone be a safety issue, people don't buy a $30k car to drive around with oil in the back and have to worry their car will explode if they don't add oil every 1k miles. As I said, I got a letter for an extended warranty that doesn't even apply and when I called Volvo they said nothing can be done. Please help.

On December 24, I was about a quarter mile into my drive when the car shut off. The dashboard went blank and I had to coast to a stop. I was unable to restart or use any parts of my car except for the emergency blinker. Nothing alerted me on my dashboard prior to this incident. I could not use the sos alert button in the car. I had a half tank of gas. I had to wait in the 9 degreef cold for 2 hours before it could be towed to the service center. My speed was approximately 25mph on a local road and I don't know what would have happened if this occurred at any higher speed with more traffic. Prior to this on 11/15/22, I had another incident with this car. I could not open the doors with the key fob and then I could not start the car. A battery jump was attempted by the tow service and it did not work. The car was towed to hudson valley Volvo service center where they completed software control module downloading, electrical equipment trouble shooting etc. , for 3 days and I was able to drive it again. Unfortunately, I do not feel safe driving this car.

The driver door will not latch and stay shut. We are in a warm climate and it happened suddenly. There was no warning lights and the car will drive without the door shut. Extremely dangerous. It hasn’t been looked at by a mechanic yet…it will have to be towed.
The "brushed aluminum" interior panels are peeling. The metallic part has separated from the plastic in multiple area. This creates curled up (perpendicular to the original) pieces that are very sharp. I have no less than 10 cuts in the last year. The pieces are razor blade sharp. I don't allow my son to come to the front seats anymore when the car is parked.
The vehicle was sold with automatic 911 in the case of an accident. That is no longer functional since it uses 3g. Volvo chose to use 3g even though it was supposed to stop working.
I am unable to service my car to fix the recall, because there is no Volvo dealer where I live.

I was driving down the freeway and the driverside door swung open while it was locked. This is after the door handle recall repair was performed. Prior to the recall repair, my door never came open like that while drving. This is dangerous because I could have fallen out, or a car could have hit my door! also, the windshield leaks on the inside and has been doing that for a long while. Volvo service said it does not leak. It does leak when raining or ice/snow melt. This is dangerous because windshield wipers do not work on the interior part of the window to wipe away water so the driver can see.
I was driving on my way back home. When my car started to knock. As I was slowing down to pull over. My oil pressure light came on. Granted, the reason was unknown. I had just recently checked the oil level. I got out to check the dipstick to find smoke coming out where the dipstick was. Curious as I was, I had no oil which left me puzzled. After some research, I found that my car had a recall on it for oil consumption. I called and asked a rep if they could verify if my vehicle was serviced for the issue. But without a doubt, he said it was. I just want to know if the problem was fixed. I currently can't crank my vehicle. I even dug into it myself and found that I had a bad starter nd battery. After replacing the two. I still can't get my vehicle to turn over. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. I turned the car on and got an error message that said the turn indicator system failed. After trying to clear the message from the dash using the button on the steering wheel, I discovered that nothing on the steering wheel was working, including the windshield wipers or any buttons on the steering wheel. I called the manufacturer and they told me not to drive it and they towed it to the dealer. The dealer said they had see this before as either a software issue or electrical issue and would need to replace the stalks and buttons.

When I first bought this Volvo there was condensation in both of the headlights then took it for a test drive and I really liked it and when I got back the dealer said if I was to buy it he would take care of both headlights so I assumed that he did but I bought it and left and was driving and then a code came on in the car saying low beam out I was like OH shit so took it back to them they had me go buy $120 light bulb and that wasn't the problem they did some working and testing and said that it was the low beam ballast so I bought 1 for the drivers side and that fixed that problem but then not even a week later the same light came on saying low beam out, took it back and they said that it was the same thing on opposite side on passenger side so they said order the part and we'll fix it I did that took it back to them and they said it was fixed not even a day later and the light was back on swing low beam out I'm thinking that there is an issue that has to deal with some kind of recall with these lights cause there is no way that they should break that easy or quick so please get back to me and let me kno thank you.
My car has water in the left back door, and I am certain it is from the recall of the locks. I use to park in my garage and the car is no longer garage kept and it has rained a lot. I can hear the water swishing around when I stop the car. I want to take the car back to the dealership that did the recall locks. Water is saturated in the back seating the driver's side.
As I approached a red light I began to slow down and my car started to shake and then it turned off I was unable to turn on my hazards to warn other drivers or pull over to the side, after a couple seconds the lights came back on and I put the car in p and started it again. It happened again later on the same day.
Car never warned of low pressure or oil low. Car started to shimmy and blow white smoke. It can no longer be driven. Piston heads blew due to lack of lubrication. Will cost approx 7 to 8 thousand to fix.
I recently had a recall on a Volvo for door latches. When looking at other recalls, I found that the oil pressure light on my vehicle, indicating low oil pressure, was a recall on a prior year, same make and model. I did further research and discovered that the car had a possible recall of the wrong date of manufacture. I was assured by Volvo that my vehicle was not affected; however, it is having the same issues, was the same make and model, says it was made in the same city, and I have had issues with the title along with getting an original date of sell for the vehicle. I bought it from a buy here, pay here place, and it had an yellow x on the inside of the drivers side door. I think it was affected by the prior recall and that I can not get all the needed recalls because the prior misprint of the year was never corrected before it was sold to the dealer.
