Volvo S60 owners have reported 8 problems related to headlights (under the exterior lighting category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Volvo S60 based on all problems reported for the S60.
I have an srs airbag warning light stays on and will not go away. The electrical wiring for the headlights are faulty, I tried everything to fix them nothing works. I used an inline fuse with the headlight wiring because the bulbs the continue to blowout. The Volvo forum suggested the inline fuse to fix the issue, but it did not. One headlight remains on the driver side and the passenger side comes on and off when it wants to and it also displays dipped bulb failure or beam failure.

My complaint is against sylvania ultra headlights, purchased from autozone. "the headlights failed shortly after 2 months, they are the most expensive headlights they sell (thinking they are the best) I purchased a pair. Had them replaced at a local mechanic - they were installed correctly. - this action was repeated for 3 sets of replacements. The 4th time around I did not purchase headlights - I took it too the mechanic and asked him to check the wiring and replace the headlights yet again. The mechanic called autozone - they asked do you want the good ones or the bad ones ? the mechanic said looking at me - the good ones of coarse. Then the sales person on the phone described how sucky the other ones are to the mechanic. About 30 mins later - autozone delivered the headlights that were sylvania but not the ultra. When I was in autozone - they claimed these ultras are the best. These bogus ultra headlights are a safety hazard and it appears they know they are bad - I smell a scam being perpetrated against the public producing a safety hazard and unnecessary expense/rip off.

While driving in the dark, power to the electronics listed below were lost inevitably and many warning lights/messages appeared on the dash (also listed below under symptoms). There were no warning signs that this was about to happen nor is there any explanation for why it happened. I was driving on a dark road and I lost complete vision of the road due to headlight failure (both low and high beams). This scenario is a common safety issue associated with many other similar Volvo years and models. I had to stop the car immediately to avoid crashing and call someone to pick me up. All symptoms from this "blackout" did not and have not disappeared since it happened, making the car undrivable. These symptoms are suspect to be the result of a cem failure, which also controls emissions. As stated previously, this exact scenario has caused thousands of similar Volvo years and models to be recalled/repaired on Volvo's behalf. Unfortunately, my vehicle model has not been placed under recall for this extremely, dangerous safety defect. I would like to see action taken against Volvo and repair costs covered on their behalf. Symptoms: ¢¿brake failure stop safely warning message ¢¿engine system service required warning message ¢¿srs airbag service urgent warning message ¢low beam headlights not working ¢high beams headlights not working ¢check engine light on ¢abs light on ¢traction control light on ¢odometer not working ¢radio not working ¢power seats & heated seats not working ¢12v sockets (front & rear) not working ¢trip odometer not working ¢clock reset.

I am the owner of a 2003 Volvo S60, this vehicle has been a headache for some time now. The first issue started with the headlights blowing out. I have had the car since 2008 and the lights have blown out atleast 10x's. The 2nd major issue I'm having with the vehicle is the car completely shuts down without warning when making a turn or sometimes sitting idle at a red light. Of course when the car is hooked up to a diagnostic machine there are no error codes and since this issue happens without warning it never happens when a service tech is with me. Lastly, two days ago I started my vehicle and the entire dash completely blacked out. None of the gauges are operable. I cannot see whether I have fuel or not in it. I feel that the manufacturer of this vehicle should be help responsible for these issues. I have read many complaints, and there were many Volvo owners who have had the same exact problems I have been experiencing. There needs to be a re-call so that the consumers who have paid several diagnostic fees and repairs fees get reimbursed for the faulty products or parts being used to build these vehicles.

Headlight wiring and connector burned causing light to go out. The dealer replaced the wiring and connector according to a TSB issued by Volvo. Dealer stated that they had repaired several Volvos with this problem. Although the dealer said this was a safety issue and Volvo issued a TSB and provided a repair kit for repairs Volvo does not consider this a safety issue. Thankfully, only one light burned out at the time otherwise I would have crashed at 70 mph. Dealer said both headlight wiring cables and connectors were burnt and they replaced both. I reported this safety issue to tennessee and kentucky consumer protection division. This one light went out on several occasions before I took the car to the dealer and discovered the safety problem. Repairs made at my cost.

Lamp outage error text: replaced both headlamp and assembly.
Consumer noticed that the right front headlight lamp was inoperative. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the head lamp blew out and needed to be replaced. It would cost the consumer $1,200. 00 to get it replaced. Please provide further details. A pebble from the street made a small hole in the glass in front of the headlamp. Moisture intruded into the lamp casing. Due tothe heat intensity of the lamp, it short-circuited. The design of the head lamp system does not allow for the swipe replacement of the lamp. The hole in the glass causes need for the entire $1200 system to be replaced.
