Loss acceleration in the vehicle on the highway at 60 mph. The car would not speed up and continue to slow down but never came to a full stop. I was not able to go pass 40 mph in the car and acceleration was slow. First time it happen, the dealer said throttle body and oil collection system needed to be replaced. I replaced both. It happens again, took it to a different person, the mechanic said fuel control needed to be replaced. I replaced that. It happen the third time and took it to dealer and he informed me the spark plugs. I replaced that. Now, the problem is still happening.

The interior of my vehicle has a strong smell of gasoline. We are aware of the recall 220 in 2010. My vehicle was registered in the district of columbia in 2010 yet the manufacturer indicates that it is not eligible for the recall based on the fact that it was originally purchased in new york, a state not made part of this recall. {if the language in the recall bulletin states that the vehicle should have been sold or registered in these states, Volvo should not interpret this to mean where the vehicle was originally purchase especially given the fact that the on the date of the recall the vehicle was registered in the district of columbia a state authorized by the recall to receive a mandatory replacement} should I await a fire to erupt before escalating this matter to get repairs under this recall?.
Smell of gas leaking but no leak on ground. . . Has recall for samething.

Etm fails causing me to ¿limp home¿ or has erratic throttle behavior, had repaired basically they just stated it had to be cleaned but the injectors where fine. After spending over $600. 00 dollars now they are stating I need to spend another $600. 00 on the part to replace because the motor is causing it to fail. I am usually driving down the road and then a message will display ¿reduce engine performance¿ causing me to go from 65 down to 40 miles per hour and I fear that one day it is going to cause and accident due to a mechanical failure on behalf of Volvo etm fiasco. Volvo has known this is a faulty design because back in 1999 to 2002 there was a recall and they were issued a 10 year warranty or 200,000 mile warranty after repeat failures. I am filing a complaint based on safety concerns and demand a recall and based on the same issue ¿faulty design¿ and Volvo has known this continues to be a problem. 2006 seem to have a very high repair and this so happens to be one of those cars. Thanks!.

Driving home after purchasing the car (yeah), I was turning into a parking lot, so my speed was descending and the car stalled. I wrote it off as my fault because it did not happen again until 3 months later. Within the past 3 weeks the car has stalled while in motion approx. 6 times. Volvo stated the recalled part for this issue was replaced in 2009. I notified the dealer and have a appointment for repair, at my expense because it was already replaced. Meanwhile I will not drive the car due to the lack of safety. Wish I would have researched the car model before purchase.
Check engine light came on and car lost power while driving at highway speeds. It would not accelerate and displayed the message "reduced engine performance". Dealer indicated it was a cracked intercooler hose and that caused the issue. It was replace and after about two months the same symptoms happened. It was then diagnosed as a bad eletronic throttle body. That was replaced and the same symptoms happened within two months again. The car now does not accelerate more than 10 mph. The next diagnosis was to replace the complete engine wiring harness. The car is unsafe to drive because it stall or decelerate from highway speeds with no notice. It is very similar to a recall for model years up to 2002.
I brought my car from someone in February, and it was running perfect. Now there is a gas smell, a smell that smells so bad I'm scared to drive because it might catch fire. I notice the smell before my birthday. My bday is 9/12, and now it jus had gotten worse. I don't thing I should be at fault for this problem. I don't have money to get it fixed. The dealer wants 1,095$ to fix it.
The contact owns a 2002 Volvo S60. The contact was traveling 55 mph when the smell of fuel emitted inside of the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 86,635.
My Volvo S60 is becoming difficult to start and is beginning to smell like gasoline. I've been researching online and the problem appears to be the fuel filter. There has been a recall in other states like arizona and florida but apparently Volvo has not issued a recall for cars in California. It is an extremely dangerous situation to drive a car that is leaking fuel due to a manufactures defect regardless of what state you live in. I would like to request that the NHTSA instruct Volvo to include all states in the recall of the defective fuel filter. Please send me any information regarding this request. Thank you for your time. From around oct. Of 2011 I have been experiencing trouble with my throttle body or as Volvo calls it 'electronic throttle module'. These problems include but are not limited to, stalling at freeway speeds, rough starting/ not starting at all, reduced engine performance not allowing for safe speed to be maintained, costly repair work with no improvement, and bouts of self accelerating at stops with parking brake and foot brake engaged. I have research a Volvo recall/ warranty extension for a defective throttle body, contacted Volvo customer service only to get the run-around. Various web forums encourage owner experiencing these problems to file complaint with NHTSA to help come to a resolution.
My 2005 Volvo S60 suddenly stalls for no apparent reason, then will restart promptly. Mainly this happens when slowing.
The engine light came on in my 2004 Volvo S60. The car would loose acceleration. Took it to our mechanic and he said it was the fuel pressure sensor and that it had been recalled by Volvo- recall # 07v226000. Took it to the dealer and they said that the VIN # of my car was not included in the recall. It was the same part that was recalled on other 2004 S60s. The cost was $450 to repair.
Volvo S60, 2004 recall letter dated January 15, 2010.
Fuel pressure sensor functioning outside of its normal parameters ecm code 2600. There is recall on the problem but dealer will not replace the sensor free of charge. Recall #07v226000.
2004 Volvo S60 fuel pressure sensor. Volvo issued a recall for this for 2003-2004 models. My car had this problem and its symptoms (car stalling). Volvo dealership said my car did not fall into recall due to VIN # break. Volvo corporation never bothered to return my calls. I feel that I should be reimbursed for this repair as it clearly meets the recall description.
2001 Volvo S60 has intermittent surging at highway speeds. At idle, engine rpm drops below 500 and nearly dies.
I have had the same problem of the car stalling around turns and on abrupt stops. It seemed to first be resolved by the recall of the pressure sensor. Recently though the car has been stalling sometimes 5 times per day when doing the same. The dealer claims it is a pvc problem that needs to be cleaned and wants to charge $1000 dollars to do it.
While pulling out of a parking spot 2 months ago, the engine of my 2002 Volvo S60 2. 4t w/37,500 miles, began sputtering, and when I got onto a major roadway, the car suddenly went into "limp" mode, whereby it went 5 miles per hour maximum. The sudden change in speed almost resulted in my car getting rear-ended. I took the car to the dealer, cherry hill Volvo in new jersey, and they diagnosed the problem as pertaining to the electronic throttle module (etm). The dealer said that the etm needed to be cleaned, and they proceeded to clean it. A week ago, I found out that NHTSA 06v-441 was issued, which addresses this exact problem. However, I was told by Volvo that my car, since it's a turbo, was not included in the NHTSA list, but it should be.
Contact statds 2003 Volvo cut off whilegoing 60 mph. Car completely lost power in the middle lane. It was towed ,and they kept it for 3 days. Consumer picked it up on 7-16-05. The dealer replaced the battery. Nine days later on 7-24-05 the car completely quit again. They called heconsume r at home and told her they thought it was a fuel pressure issue. Her car has been in the shop 2 times previously for hesitation and delays, and they kept telling her it was chip related . The last two incidents occurred at relative higher speeds than the first time. Car has been in the shop for one week, and she did hear from the service dealership last night. He told her he thought it was a fuel pressure issue and he was going to call in a specialist.

2001 Volvo S60 2. 4t stalled on NJ state highway 21 in newark, NJ due to a failed etm. This resulted in the car being rear ended in the right lane causing $6927. 61 in body damage. The cost of replacing the etm was an additional $753. 33.
We brought the car in several times to complain that not only did the inside of the car always smell like fuel, but the driver and all her clothes smelled like fuel. We were told they could not find any problems with the car. I find it ironic that years after the fact, Volvo contacts us to tell us there is a fuel problem. We no longer own the car, nor would we ever buy another Volvo again, due to the lack of concern and help we received when owning this vehicle. We tried speaking to various employees and service personal, but we got no where. Sincerely, the moores.
2004 Volvo S60 regularly serviced by Volvo. Bought new, well maintained, exc cond, & oil changed ever 3000 miles. Only 68k miles presently but many problems since bought new. #1) replacing burned out rear/front headlight bulbs constantly. #2) check engine light came on before 40k miles. Wasn't too concerned at first because only issue I seemed to have was hesitation somewhat when accelerating after being parked. Until one day veh wouldn't accelerate beyond a roll after being stopped for red light. A few days later driving approx 50 mph uphill car stopped accelerating and stalled. Both times I was able to roll to side of road, restart & make it home. Scared me enough though to take to Volvo next day. Fuel sensor gauge needed to be replaced. When I checked if covered under recall - found my car wasn't based on VIN, another fairly costly repair. #3 - ac fan wouldn't go off one day - fan running full blast & control switch wouldn't regulate or work. Fan continued to run even when I turned off ignition. Dead battery next morning needed jump start. Ac fan modular bad - modular repair done & then fan somehow burned out due to new modular when mechanic testing repair - now fan needed to be replaced. Very costly repair once again. #3 - check engine light came on. After months to several mechanics, checking oil, etc. Told light probably just faulty. Then check oil light blinks - car had less than 1/2 qt oil & I had major engine damage. Had complete engine rebuilt & very expensive. Engine running great. Now 2 mos later & I hear a metal to metal noise/sound when making turns - preferably right hand - & coming from rght front side of car. Mechanic can't see safety issues when up on rack. Has no clue. Noise annoying and concerning. It sounds like wheel is going to fall off car. I am sure it will cost another fortune . However once repaired - trading in. I loved my car. . . However no longer feel veh is safe or depen.
