I have seen the recall of Volvo S60 models 2001-2005 in us in regards to the fuel pump cracks in flange and thus leak of fuel which may result in a fire. I am currently (since 7 days of the date of writing this complaint) having the same problem with my car (Volvo S60 model 2005) in uae/ abu dhabi. The dealer along with the service managers and workshop refused to carry the repair free of charge since the recall is not within uae and my car chassis number is not listed either. I was doing the utmost to let them understand that this a safety issue regardless the recall list and regardless if it is inside uae or outside and thus Volvo dealer must repair for me at once free of charge. They do not care about my safety where I still smell the gas inside the car and I am exposed to a fire as long as I am driving it with no repair. I am writing this to announce the unsatisfied about the way the dealer/ service manager treated this subject and concentrating about the money to be paid by the customer rather than sustain the safety of personnel/ owners of Volvo. I told them that they need to report to Volvo International that the subject of the recall in us happened with one of the customers in uae. Yet I got a negative action and/ or care.

I've had my car all of 4 months and I started to notice when it got really hot outside (summer) and when I went to start my car it would stall as if it was having a hard time starting up. Long story short I take it in to the dealer, they run a diagnostics test an tell me there is a crack in my fuel pump. I currently live in pennsylvania which is not one of the states listed for the fuel pump recall. I highly believe my car had a defective fuel pump because in the spring time, when it wasn't so hot my car was running fine. The Volvo dealer ship charged me $98. 11/hr to run a diagnostics test which came to $102. 83. Then on top of that they charged me $795 + tax for the parts and labor to replace my fuel pump after finding there was a crack in it. Everyone keeps telling me that my fuel pump is not on the recall but it has the same exact symptoms as all other Volvo cars that are listed on the recall. I'm trying to research how I could find out how these people know if my fuel pump was recalled or not. I have twin 2 year old girls that I had in my car all a while it was having this unknown issue. This is not safe at all and could of caused us harm. Luckily my father is car Smart and informed me what the possible issue could be.

I noticed a fuel smell coming from the passenger compartment, which steadily got worse. I brought it to my mechanic and found the fuel pump was leaking. I paid to have it replaced.
My 2001 Volvo S60, at 68k miles, had cracks in the fuel pump, causing a strong gas smell due to the leaks. This appears to be a widespread problem with the S60 in particular, since numerous postings have been seen regarding this same problem. When I called the Volvo dealership, they knew immediately what the problem was. This is a $1000 repair that is nearly certain from what I have been able to tell. Apparently Volvo has issued a recall on this problem, but only in arizona and nevada. The idea that the car develops this problem upon entering these states seems amusing. This appears to be an S60 issue, regardless of location. Perhaps the recall needs to be expanded to cover all affected models/cars?

Leaking gas from the top of the gas tank. Currently have a NHTSA campaign number 07v152000 that only covers cars in arizona and nevada.
On certain vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of arizona and nevada, due to the combination of fuel quality and climate conditions, the fuel pump may, in certain cases, experience a reduced functionality. The most common symptoms would be fuel odor. I live in tennessee and my car does the same thing. We have had over 3 weeks of 100 plus degree temps here. The consumer stated tried replacing the fuel filter, unfortunately that did not solve the problem. The consumer further stated there is evidence of a fuel leak in the gas tank and the vehicle is very hard to start. Updated 09/26/07 perm granted via email to release info to mfr on 09/28/2007. Pco.
My car gives off a strong gas/fuel smell, which is not coming from under the hood, but can be smelled both inside and outside the car. It has about 74,000 miles on it, and is less than 8 years old. I noticed the smell now for many months, which continues to get stronger. I saw that there is a recall for the cars in arizona and nevada, but I live in florida, where it can get pretty hot as well. I believe the problem is with the fuel pump. This problem must be happening quite often with other Volvo S60s. The problem may stem from a poorly designed plastic pump housing. I took the car in for the Volvo etm warranty program on 08/15/07 thinking that the fuel smell would be corrected when they fixed the emission system problem. The dealer's receipt indicates they performed a fuel induction service because of throtle body dirt, but the fuel smell has only gotten worse. I don't want to have to spend $$$ to have it repaired, when it is a manufacturing defect. What can I do?.
