The instrument panel goes completely blank for approximately 5 seconds while driving which renders speed, safety warnings, etc. Unavailable during that time. There is no pattern of occurrence. It happens while driving at city or highway speeds. It has always occurred while the vehicle is in a straight line of motion. This starts out on an infrequent basis (once or twice a week) until it manifests into an event of several times a day. I took the vehicle to the dealer the first time on 01/13/2017 with 12,097 miles on the odometer. It was hooked to the diagnostic computer, and when they saw that no codes were stored, it was "fixed" with a driver information module software upgrade. When the problem started again, I took the vehicle in on 07/20/2017 with 16,066 miles on it. Once again, the car was connected to the diagnostic computer and no codes were found to be stored. The wiring was checked and found to be okay. Another software upgrade was used to resolve the issue.

Having electrical problems and software problems. In the middle of driving all electronics will go off. Also, car wont always shut down or start properly. Looked over many forums and found the exact complaints. There have been other recalls for electrical and software for the S60, but apparently they dont apply to my VIN, even though I am having the exact same issue.

My 2012 Volvo S60 had serious engine noise brought to the shop they thought it might of been the fact that I had low oil, but I had just gotten my oil changed 12/17/14 and it was 5/27/15 now and I had not driven anywhere close to 6 thousand miles to deplete all the oil. The shop told me to really figure out what was going on they would have to take out the engine to take a look at what was making the noise. That evening I got a call from the shop again telling me that there was a serious problem. They told me because my car was dangerously low on oil in fact 3 quarts low that the engine for that fact had not gotten any oil, this in turn cased the barring and the crank shaft the be damaged so bad that they shop to me that if basically beyond repair and I would need to get a new engine. Upon researching the internet I came across a string of recalls for my car, it stated that the Volvo's software had a problem which prevented the low engine oil light from coming out and in December 2013 they started a recall. I check the website and got the number to Volvo of north America and called and was told that my car was one of the vehicles that was recalled. I was also told that they problem was fixed by a simple software update. I was also told that in their records my car was taken into Volvo and the update was applied to my car fixing the problem. I told the representative on the phone that if this was the case then it must of not worked because my car was in the shop with the exact same problem that Volvo's website described and also no "low engine oil" light ever came on.
The driver's control door module (ddm) has failed (very common on the S60). This module controls the windows, door locks, rear-view mirrors, and child-safety locks on the rear doors. Now, both rear doors are permanently locked, and can only be opened with the outside door handles. I feel this is a safety issue. A new replacement unit from Volvo will solve this issue, but Volvo dealers charge about $800. A used ddm will not work, due to the software addressing scheme used by Volvo.

I purchased the car on Friday, October 18, on Saturday, October 19, the car went haywire, windshield wipers would turn off, no turn signals, no headlights, and no instrument panel. Totally unsafe. Contacted dealer, and he said, "wow, you're the 2nd person today to call with these issues. We think there may be a recall, but you'll have to take it to the german dealership on Monday. " no help, no concern for safety, nothing! had the vehicle towed in on Monday, and german dealership has to order the software. My car sits, the dealership that sold the S60 to us, denies that there is a recall on my vehicle! capitol motors should be closed down! I am paying for a new car, I cannot even drive!.

The contact owns a 2002 Volvo S60. While the vehicle was stopped and the contact attempted to accelerate, the vehicle shifted into limp home mode. The vehicle would only move 5 mph. The contact turned the vehicle off and restarted it; it performed correctly after the restart. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times where the software as update and the throttle modular and mass air flows were replaced. The contact referenced recall 06v441000 (vehicle speed control) was informed that the vehicle was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000 and the current mileage was approximately 98,000.
Right front power window inoperable from either side switch control. Power door locks do not respond to remote. Ambient temprarture readout inoperable. Dealer claimed to have upgrade component software. Position bulb outage error text: replaced right rear position bulb.

The car stalled repeatedly while the engine was idling. All power was lost making the car very difficult to steer and brake. I nearly got into several accidents
the engine stalled while:
1) stopped at a red light
2) while shifting gears on the highway
3) while shifting gears in heavy traffic
I took the car to the dealership 4 times before the problem correctly fixed. The following items were replaced but did not fix the problem:
1) fuel pump
2) map sensor (replaced 2 times)
neither of these fixes worked. The problem was corrected after modifying the software on the computer board.

I bought this used 2001 Volvo S60 with 54k on it. Found out that has this problem of computer shutting down with no warnings and there's only power to radio and the a/c fan. . . No signals no instrument panel and nothing worked. There was all these messages saying brake failure, emission control failure and srs failure message. Engine ran as long as it was on, once turned off would not start again. The car computer resets by itself in about 10-15 minutes. Took it to Volvo dealer two times explaining the details. They did a software upgrade, cleared the codes and reset the computer. Both times, the car worked for a while but happened again. Two days ago happened in the freeway and I almost had a crash (no signals and also couldn't open windows to hand signal). I feel like they are aware of the problem, but don't want the consumer to know about it so they keep doing the cheap fix of clearing code until next time. I'm really concerned about the safety of the car now especially in the freeway.
Intermittent problem. 2001 Volvo S60 t5. Vehicle will fail to shift gears when accelerating. Usually occurs when proceeding from a stop, usually when turning. Took vehicle to the dealer, princeton Volvo, and although their mechanic experienced the problem, they indicated that they did not know what could cause the problem. Now I learn that Volvo has had numerous reported similar problems, usually involving the electronic throttle control modulator. It should also be noted that the aforesaid dealer attempted to remedy the problem by making a software change, but this only made the problem worse.
