1 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2010 Volvo S80

Failure Date: 05/08/2010

Wanted to purchase a new 2010 Volvo. The airbag light was on, dealership could not clear the code. Was told by a technician that there was a loose connecter and there is no fix at this time, Volvo of America wanted the dealership to wrap tape around the connector and jam it in place to get rid of the airbag light. I did not purchase for obvious safety reasons. What happens if this "fix" fails right before a crash, and the airbag system does not work as designed? apparently all 2010 S80, xc70, and xc60 vehicles can be affected. The other thing that concerns me is Volvo of America does not want this repair in writing - looks like they have something to hide. Is this how the Toyota unintended acceleration problem was first handled?.

2 Air Bag Light On problem of the 1999 Volvo S80

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

Air bag light came on. Had the car checked by a Volvo service garage. The technician said that the srs (supplemental restraint system) module needs to be replaced. I was informed the pyrotechnics in the seat belt system and the front air bags do not work until the module is replaced and programmed. The re-programming is a 'dealer only' service. This is a permanent safety failure which has life or death consequences if I am ever involved in an accident. Not corrected as of 03/08/10.

3 Air Bag Light On problem of the 1999 Volvo S80

No impact at time of deployment. Driver lost control and hit another vehicle. Air bag light came on as driver was reading message, and air bag deployed. Speed was 20 mph. There will be invoices, police report.
