Air Bag Problems of Volvo S80

I bought this car from elderly people. After I bought it and drove, there's lots of thing not according to safety standard? I asked them (seller) but they don't have any answer, due to their age. So, since last Tuesday, I am driving as it is. Hardly I put 250 miles so far. There's belt sign, air bag sign, and low tire air sign. All signs are showing in my dashboard and stays as long as car is on. So, I am scared to death to drive this car, car itself in a mint condition and it's got only 131k miles. Still there's is more life left on this car. I am also senior citizen and retired person. So, I need help to get these fixed ASAP please.

The air bag warning randomly popped up on my screen. They will not deploy if I get into a wreck. Non working air bag. I also have issues that come and go with the electrical component. Sometimes my door won't open, sometimes my seats won't move, and my license plate light is out due to something electrical. My gas tank spits gas back at me and makes weird noises sometimes.

Safety recall r10125 for this vehicle has not been performed as of this date; received safety recall notice letter from Volvo car USA llc 29 Nov 2021; have contacted dealer once immediately upon receipt of letter; Volvo corporation 4 to 6 times telephonic and email with the last response (Volvo is looking into it) on 15 Dec 2022 upon which I have again responded with an email for a status check. My perception is that this VIN number has a three spoke steering wheel which would have to be manufactured (not four and requires different airbag) and that is not going to happen (last unoffical response from Volvo dealer in Jan 2022). The vehicle has a recall and Volvo told me I have to drive 8 hours to another state to get it fixed by the closest dealership. I cannot do that - I need to have it fixed locally.

When I was closing the passenger door, it did not close tight. So I opened it again and shut it a bit harder. When I shut it harder, the passenger side seat airbag and the top passenger side airbag deployed. If I had been sitting inside the car at the time, I could have been injured as small things exploded inside the car and it filled with a smoky powder. We took it to a Volvo dealership and they inspected it but have not relayed thier findings to me. Even tho I have called several times to find out. They never return my calls. Their was no warning or lights on prior to the incident. I know about the drivers side airbag recall but was wondering if their were other airbag issues they have not told us about? it will cost about $1500 to have the airbags replaced and from what I understand, none of the airbags will work now untill the deployed ones have been replaced. And I think it is a manufacturing issue that has made this problem. I just want to kmow if this has happened to other Volvo owners? and if Volvo should be required to fix our airbags.

On 11/17/2020 was driving to pick up decal for my car and I got a message that read a check airbags I didn't have any reading on my gages turn signal for right turn stay lit up not brinking just on , when I stopped and went in building to get decal came back to car started it my gages came back which was glad they were working but still had message about airbags.

Theres a recent recall on the airbags of the 1999 S80 Volvo that we need our airbags replaced because its a hazard that can lead up to death. Also the electricity keeps zapping down from the car creating no starts or very poor driving, I almost was stranded because the car seems like it wanted to shut down one night I was getting off work, I hit full gas and it only gave me 3 mph and also when I made a right turn one night from work I feel the wheel feel like its coming apart from the inside or loosening I dont know what it is but it feels and sounds rough.

Swapped battery at o'reilly's auto parts. All manufacturer safety protocols followed. After swapping out w/new battery: climate control module not working- srs airbag 'service urgent' errors. Volvo quoting $2500 to replace ccm, $800 for rebuild-process. Dim is also fried. No heat or a/c- airbag accidental deployment risk. Quick search online shows this is a Volvo issue specific to s60, S80 & xc70 models (all years) filed compliant w/vt state ag- cap 2020-07438 original repair order attached.

On November 9th my wife was driving our 2001 Volvo S80 to church. She parked the car but it began to move. It accelerated and she wound up driving into a tree to avoid hitting other cars. She was also worried that children from the school might be around. The car was in park. The engine was off. The emergency break was on. The steering wheel was tight, making it difficult to steer since the engine was off. The church secretary observed the incident. She saw smoke coming out of the back of the car which would indicate the emergency break was on. When she first reached the car with my wife in it she noted that the car was in park.

2006 Volvo S80 . Consumer writes in regards to unsatisfactory vehicle repairs and customer service at dealership. The front brakes, pads and shock absorbers were replaced. Also, the vehicle had air bag problems and it over heated.

"srs (supplemental restraint system) airbag failure urgent" message came on. I took vehicle to the dealership for repair. The diagnosis was a faulty (r) front passenger seat belt assembly, which was replaced. Several days later the fault message returned. Dealership checked codes and indicated it was the same exact part. I had the previous owner's service history for the car and discovered this problem had occurred 6 months prior to me purchasing the vehicle and another dealership had already replaced the same seatbelt assembly. So instead, the current dealership replaced the control module for the entire srs system. Two days later the fault message returned again. The car is back at the dealership for the third time now and has been there for a total of about a month. They are not sure exactly what the problem is, but suspect the wiring harness under the front passenger floor area. I have researched this issue quite a bit and have discovered a recall involving the connection for the clock spring in the steering wheel for my 2010, but more telling is a recall affecting 17,000 vehicles encompassing many models my 2012 for a wiring problem where the seat harness may become disconnected when moving the seat. Perhaps even though my vehicle is a 2010 it still could be the same problem since not much has changed between these model years. I have also learned that the srs system disables the airbags when this fault occurs so this represents a major safety rist to me and my family.

While driving my 2000 Volvo S80 about 20-25mph all the sudden lost power to all my gauges, dashboard lights, power windows, & power locks. The radio was the only device that was working. The following message was displayed srs-airbag service urgent. I have noticed a diffrence on my brake pedal that it does not respond as well as it use too there is a short delay when stepped on. Before this incident I had noticed a clicking noise on the driver side when a came to a stop like a relay chattering & also the ac would come on when the car is turned off. At times the following message would appear frequently alarm needs servicing. I don't know what is causing this malfuncions but if its a manufacturing problem Volvo should be liable on correcting the problem & provide us with a safe vehicle.

My son was driving a 2002 Volvo S80 with no passengers when he was hit in the left front by another car. He was forced to the right and struck a light pole at approximately 30 mph. The light pole impact was maybe 2" right of dead center. The car was a total loss. Only the passenger airbag deployed from the dash. None of the other seven airbags deployed. The fact that none of the drivers airbags deployed appears to be a fault. The fact that there was no pasenger and the passenger airbag did deploy also appears to be a fault.

The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 135,000.

Numerous defects in the airbag system, one time it was the bumper connection, another time the seat belt tensioner, and then the connection in the steering wheel, then it goes out of warranty and they cannot find the problem and I spend 800. 00 then it happens again and the dealer says too bad it must be shorted somewhere. . . . . Jokes on you.

Air bag deployed after running over manhole cover on rte 4 west on Monday Sep 20, 2004 approximately 7:20 am est. Roadwork in process on rte 4 travelling approx 15-20 miles per hour morning traffic, air bag deployed.

Failed climate control unit driving to work. Air bag system sevice urgent (in info. Box) came on and still on. Eat belt tighten for no reason.
