I own a 2000 Volvo s-80. While proceeding through automatic car wash, the sunroof shattered during the blower/dryer operation. Car wash manager informed me that these models have a propensity to break at the same spot in the car wash process. He stated that Volvo replaces the sunroof under warranty, but when I contacted Volvo, they denied any knowledge of the problem.

My sunroof was busted out in a carwas by the blower drying it off.
My wife was driving the vehicle and I was a passenger. When attempting to open the sunroof and when it was about 1/4 opened, a steel bar, about 26 inches in length came out of the roof opening and hit my wife on the right side of her head while she was driving. The glass did not break only the metal bar that was glued to the glass came loose and fell out. Had she turned her head in my direction, the bar could have caused serious injury and even could have hit one of her eyes. This metal bar was attached to the leading edge of the glass. No accident or serious injury other than bruised skin occurred. On Nov 29th the car was taken to the dealer to be evaluated and spoke to the service manager who said he never heard of this happening before. When he called a mechanic over to ask his opinion, the mechanic stated that they just replaced a sunroof glass on a similar car the previous week with the same problem. The service manager only said that if the glass was replaced, it would be very costly. No offer was made to repair or replace with a better part. This incident could have caused a serious or deadly accident.
The sunroof on my Volvo S80 exploded in the carwash under the dryer. I had it fixed and the people of the carwash association said Volvo is to reimburse me but no one wants too.
I took my car to a car wash in Feb. 2008 and the sunroof exploded. It cost me almost $1500. 00 to fix. I sent in the documentation to the carwash association. They told me Volvo will reimburse me. I pray they are right.
My 2001 Volvo S80 t6 cost me around $3,500 in repairs/maintenance after purchase in the last 3 months. This car has something going wrong one thing after another. To mention some: front sway-bar links, turbo charger drain, bad alternator (that cause other electronics to malfunction I. E. The vehicle's entire heating system), in-car sensor failure for interior air quality , electronic throttle module failure that caused me to have the vehicle towed to the Volvo dealership for $190, catalytic converter failure, oxygen sensor failure, the front struts and mounts need to be replaced, yet. Maintenance wise, the 60k maintenance, which the dealership never mentioned that it had been completed on this vehicle ( no paper work for the vehicle was provided to me at the time of purchase), the brakes went bad in two weeks after purchase, the tires needed to be replaced, total cost: around $2,000. I don't know what more to expect to have gone wrong on this vehicle. This car has put me through lots of stress, waste of time, and loss of money. I bought the vehicle for $14,000 and has put in almost $3,500 and it's not even worth $17,000 in the market at this point. Volvo needs to have a recall on their suspension problems (struts, sway bar links, bushings) which happen quite often as I have heard and read on the consumer complaints online, and also for the alternator failure and cause afterwards. Also, if the car had to be towed because of a recall problem, they should cover the cost of tow since the problem was caused by their recall item.

Purchased a Volvo S80 in 2001;vehicle currently has 60700 miles and 3 automatic transmissions & throttle body replacement.
While driving sun roof bar which is a metal bar that goes around the glass in the sunroof caved in on the consumer. She contacted the dealer, and was told this was a common problem with the sun roofs in Volvo vehicles.
While driving, and without warning the sunroof support bar disconnected from the frame. The front rollover support bar fell out while opening the sunroof and the same happened to the rear support two weeks later. (VIN#1falp52uxta209370).
Computer failed excessively resulting in intermittent working of sunroof/ air conditioning, and power windows. Also vehicle stalled frequently.
Consumer called complaining about having problems with the sunroof. Also stated that while on a car wash an the minute the dryer started sucking the air to dry the vehicle the sunroof broke in pieces and the roof almost came off. Dealer was contacted and stated that is not their problem. Ts.
