1 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2001 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 01/10/2018

When I am driving in 5th gear the transmission will drop into 4th gear, at that time I loose 1st, 3rd and 5th gears I can shift between 4th and 2nd. The shift is very hard and causes a jerk and clunking noise. I have to stop and shut off the vehicle. I turn the car immediately back on and all the gears are functional. I'm not sure why there's so many complaints about this issue yet no action has been taken to fix this problem.

2 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 1999 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 07/26/2017

Car surges randomly at lower speeds. Car also loses power on freeway and acceleration fluctuates uncontrollably at times. All symptoms happening while car is in motion, mostly at speeds over 50mph. I brought the car to my local dealership where there were open recalls on the model I own. After recall was performed, the symptoms have increased and worsened. Dealership is refusing to take any responsibility.

3 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2001 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 02/07/2017

Car stalls while turning or going over speed bumps. The car completely loses power when making right or left turns. It has also occurred in parking lots while driving over speed bumps. This usually takes place during acceleration. This has occurred on state highways, local, and parking lots. I do not drive the automobile on a regular basis; it is only driven occasionally (once a week). I consider myself lucky so far that nobody has rear-ended me.

4 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2004 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 09/07/2016

When we first purchased the car we drove it for about a week before it started surging forward and stalling a lot. My fiancé and I would have to pull over, park the car, have to turn the key three times before starting. Would have to repeat process every 5 minutes. So we took it to paramount Volvo of hickory, ended up taking it there for service. Dropped it off with a max full tank of gas as well, along with personal items we left in the car. It takes then about 4 or 5 days before calling us back with diagnostics, so we end up paying almost 1,600$ to get the timing chain replaced, new hoses put on, fuel pump replacement, and the fuel injectors. We pick it up, and our gas is almost on empty. . . . And a few items were missing out of our vehicle as well. I know they have to test drive it after servicing the vehicle, it seemed like they took it on a joy ride all over hickory. But we decided not to mention that, and took it as a compliment of them "liking" the car. At least we had it fixed we thought, then drove 45 minutes up the mountain home. Drove for about a day or two until "check engine" light came back on, so we called Volvo back. That time we ended up getting the fuel pump replaced on a "recalled part". Again it drive fine after picking it back up 2nd time then started acting up again, brought it back and they fixed the timing on it. Picked it up, week or two later we set up a new appointment because the car is surging, rpms won't go over 2000, kicks out and in gear, rpm gauge fluctuates when stopped. My 4 year old daughter and I were driving down the highway yesterday and it started surging, the steering seemed alot looser, then it started shaking around a curve pretty bad, got scared and braked, steering wouldn't turn , kept going straight, ran into the grass ,thank god. We could have died. Also attaching a photo of the rest of my complaint since it wouldn't fit.

5 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 1998 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 05/12/2014

I just purchased about 2 months ago a 1998 Volvo V70 used on 4/3/2014 for 3000. 00 . The vehicle drove just fine up until two weeks ago where the transmission seems to be slipping. While I was riding on i695 and was going about sixty miles per hour when the car jerked and cut off, meaning blinking in and out of the electrical system along with the engine as I was pulling over on the shoulder, which is terribly unsafe. I assumed and thought Volvo's were great on miles and transmission so I didn't expect it to be having these type of issues. I am a first time Volvo purchaser and highly disappointed and it's to expensive for all the hassles. All of the minor issues were expected because of the vehicle being a used car. Also, I cannot even check the transmission fluid levels in order to see if all I need is some transmission fluid, the dipstick that leads to the transmission is stuck, as in I have tried pulling, twisting and turning but to no avail. After purchasing a 300 dollar key pad from the dealer I expect more from the manual and at least to be able to check all fluids on the vehicle. If these minor issues didn't evolve into major issues with my Volvo vehicle I would not have an issue. Yet the problem is that these minor issues are indeed causing major repairs which is simply unacceptable and causing unsafe driving hazardous situations that could indeed affect the life of myself and other drivers. Thank you very much for listen and hopefully directly addressing my concerns. 6 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 1999 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 04/11/2011

The contact owns a 1999 Volvo V70. The contact stated that the check engine and esc warning lights were illuminated. The engine then exhibited an abnormal increase in rpms accompanied by a loud noise. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 06v441000 (vehicle speed control) but was informed by the manufacturer that the repairs had been performed by the previous owner. The vehicle was not further repaired. The current and failure mileage was 204,529.

7 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 1998 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 07/26/2010

On a large number of Volvos the abs computer fails resulting in loss of proper braking. Normal use causes this, in this all to common failure, and Volvo is aware of their short comings in this problem, thus far refusing to correct a highly dangerous condition that may have already resulted in injury and death. The replacement computers from Volvo are of the same lack of reliability. This has been a major problem for years and certainly represents a serious failure in a critical system to the automobile. In addition to being a serious failure, Volvo has made it a very expensive (hence profitable) repair. Estimates ranging from $500. 00 to $850. 00 for the repair are the norm. The part itself is around $500. 00, so Volvo makes a nice profit from each one replaced and is guaranteed another replacement further down the road since they have not even addressed the problem with their replacement units. To do so would be acknowledging a problem they are well aware of, so they wont. If ever a government mandated recall was appropriate this is it. It would seem that a car company as proud of their safety ratings as Volvo is would be willing to correct this potentially fatal flaw. As they seem not to be it should be demanded of them. They should be mandated to recall all models prone to this failure and to be required to reimburse consumers that can produce receipts proving they had to have this repair done. There are rebuilders that can make the old unit stronger, more reliable, if you send it to them, so Volvo could do it as well.

8 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2000 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 12/08/2007

Purchased car in Dec 2006. Within few months, began to notice the car would lose speed on highway and drop to a speed anywhere between 60-80km/hr. Black smoke rolled out exhaust. Took car to dealership (where previous owners maintained car). Several filters, seals, replaced. Few months later the same problem continued. Returned to dealership and told car needed catalytic converter. After being told the cost, dealership called back to say under emissions warranty. $1200 part was covered but I paid labor/other parts. Dealer was asked on both occasions to complete service due. Failed to complete these as requested. Problems continued. This time the dealership told me that ets was gone causing the car to go into limp mode. Repairs done at a cost of all $2600. 00. Less than a year, same problem occurred. The oil light came on (though there was oil in the car). The car was towed two hours back home . When I took the car to a different independent garage they (like two others before) told me to Volvo. Went back to Volvo but not before I had to pull over and be towed again. The engine began smoking, the car shook violently, the oil light (which Volvo had less than two weeks before said was fine) came on. . . The report back from Volvo is that the ets is gone again but also that the engine required replacing ($6000 job). This was more than two months ago and my car still sits at Volvo waiting for resolve. I strongly believe the ongoing issues are directly related to the need for a new engine and that Volvo was negligent in their responsibility (repeatedly) to make the necessary repairs. Not only am I out the $20 000. 00 to purchase the car only two years ago, I am out about $6000 for repairs already completed and am now being told it will be another $6000 to fix this problem.
