5 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 11/20/2017

Main engine wiring harness destroyed, engine still ran- temp, fluids, cam timing, mass air flow, fuel rail, throttle position -sensors, instrument panel. Had checked oil two days earlier, was no damage. Wind screen washer light came on when I tried to start engine, checked and found damage -was one of the sensors which was damaged - fluid bottle was ok. Some minor wires were still attached. This could have happened on the highway and caused an engine malfunction. There was always a slight odor in hot weather or when on a long run- was the soy based polymers Volvo used without any "odor inhibitors", the looms coverings do biodegrade quicker in hot weather exposure without an inhibitor and disintegrate leaving the loom to open up and be exposed to damage! the hood insulation was also destroyed and had to be replaced total replacement and labor $2. ,827. 42.

6 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 02/07/2017

Car stalls while turning or going over speed bumps. The car completely loses power when making right or left turns. It has also occurred in parking lots while driving over speed bumps. This usually takes place during acceleration. This has occurred on state highways, local, and parking lots. I do not drive the automobile on a regular basis; it is only driven occasionally (once a week). I consider myself lucky so far that nobody has rear-ended me.

Failure Date: 01/22/2016

Smell fuel outside right rear of car.

10 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 12/11/2015

I have had two Volvo V70 station wagons. Both of them have exhibited the following- when filling at certain gas stations (sunoco most recently) the gas pump will not shut off automatically before fuel comes pouring out of the filler. I believe it is a fuel filler problem in the car, not in the pump, because I do not have this problem with any of our other cars. I believe it is either an issue of the car's fuel filler tube shape, or dimensions. Dangerous! approx 1 full cup of gas.

11 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 09/18/2015

Takata recall: fuel smell inside vehicle.

12 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 05/12/2015

The vehicle stalls or goes into "limp" mode often upon acceleration, but also apparently randomly. There is a recall for the same model of a different year described as "vehicles going into the limp home mode without need". I took it to a Volvo mechanic and he found no problem, but he cleaned some parts and charged me. It still happens and is dangerous since the car could stall in traffic. It has happened over 100 times. I called Volvo "support" and they said they could do nothing since there is no recall on that model. They offered no technical support which I thought was the least they should do. I would like to get it fixed, but Volvo is of no help. At least they should offer technical support even if there is no recall.

13 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 04/02/2015

The contact owns a 2004 Volvo V70. While driving at 45 mph, the vehicle decelerated and came to a complete stop. The contact mentioned that the steering wheel was difficult to steer and the engine light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart. The failure recurred six times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pressure sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 07v226000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

14 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 12/19/2014

First time, was in a drive through & just took off, hopped the curb, and hit talk box. Next 2 times were stopped quickly by me putting in neutral. Last time was just leaving parking space, and car jumped curb and I stopped 4 ft. From brick wall. Have had it tested 2-3 times by mechanics w/o success.

15 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 09/07/2014

Driving home from detroit to indianapolis on highway. . . Check engine light came on, then went out a little further down the road. . . Later came on again. . . Engine was running fine. . . Then sudden power loss. . . . Engine completely stopped. . . Coasted to side of highway with no power steering or power brakes. . . Restarted engine. . . Engine ran well enough to get me to next exit before losing power again. . . This time it wouldn't run well enough to drive it after restarting. . . . After expensive trip to dealer for repair, found out issue was a fuel pressure sensor that failed. . . This is kind of like having your car lose power and stop running because your coolant temperature gauge failed. . . Engine contol module should not shut car off in response to this fuel pressure sensor fail. . . This gauge is used to optimize fuel consumption. . . It's not a pressure regulator. . . Unexpected and complete power loss on a higway can be very dangerous. . . Engine control module should not be programmed in this way. . .

Failure Date: 07/09/2014

Car stalls dies in traffic.

19 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

When the vehicle is driving at any speed and the accelerator pedal is pushed down, there is often a loss of power and the vehicle will not move forward for up to 5 to 10 seconds. There is a recall on this year and model already but my specific vehicle with my VIN is not covered. However our vehicle is doing the exact same thing as the vehicles that have been recalled. I have spoken to Volvo but they have been unwilling to work with us to repair the vehicle. I feel as though the previous recall should have been expanded but I am unsure. Thank you.

20 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 05/12/2014

The ignition is shut off momentarily as the transmission attempts to downshift causing it to slip into neutral then engage the lower gear hard as the transmissions computer reestablishes control. This action is recorded on a video car camera operated by the ignitions on and off position. The hard shifting problem thought to be fixed by software update may be addressing the symptom not the cause. Acceleration is also affected at other times where the foot pedal is inoperable, but reestablished when shutting the ignition off and on. The drive train becomes wobbly after a short period of time at highway speeds making travel between cities unsafe. A clunking sound from the rear, as broken spring or loose bowling ball makes, is heard at times of mild acceleration at lower speeds. Perhaps a grounding strap my alleviate static buildup in the ignition system.

21 Other Fuel System problem of the 1999 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 02/05/2014

Traveling in town at appr. 45 mph. Car went into limp mode, etm check light came on.

22 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

With my foot on the brake, I put the car in reverse and suddenly the engine revs up and the car accelerates at a high rate. Luckily, my foot was on the brake and I could stop the car. I had to press down quite hard on the brake pedal. A couple of seconds after applying the brakes, the engine returns to a normal idle speed. This sudden acceleration has occurred three times over, approximately, the last six months. The most recent occurrence was today, August 21, 2014. I estimated the first occurrence was in February of 2014.

23 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 05/29/2013

I started the car, placed the car in drive gear and idled through the parking lot traffic to the intersection but the car would not accelerate through the intersection though the condition restored after I pulled over and turned off the ignition and restarted it. Then the accelerator functioned normally. Had a semi truck been coming along, I would not be here to write you this letter.

24 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 03/17/2013

I purchased a used vehicle the old owner said there was a recall. The check engine light goes on and off. I contacted the Volvo dealer he ran VIN but no recall for this car. I took it to a mechanic and he ran a diagnostic which read fuel sensor. The recall I saw for this year car is similar to the one issued. Could my car have been missed? NHTSA campaign id number: 07v226000 recall date: 2007-06-05 summary: on certain passenger vehicles, the fuel pressure sensor located on the left end of the fuel rail may, at times, transmit incorrect signal regarding the fuel pressure to the engine control module. If the signal is outside of the pre-programmed allowable limits, a diagnostic trouble code may be set and the check engine light will come on. The soldered joints on the circuit board of the fuel pressure sensor may crack due to temperature changes and excessive vibrations. Consequences: misfire may occur during driving that, in turn, will reduce the engine torque and in the worst case scenario, the engine may stall without warning. In certain traffic situations this could cause an unsafe situation and possibly a crash. Remedy: dealers will replace the fuel pressure sensor free of charge. The recall began on June 29, 2007. Owners may contact Volvo at 1-800-458-1552. Component affected: engine and engine cooling notes: Volvo cars of n. A. , llc.

25 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 12/13/2012

Fuel smell coming from trunk. Possible combustion. Previous recall was not extended to colorado, but as the front range summer temperatures and dryness are an indicator of failure, I worry that this recall should be extended to colorado owners.

26 Other Fuel System problem of the 1999 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 08/08/2012

As I was driving home the car started running very rough and was not able to get it above 25 mph. It also started to lunge forward sporadically and it seemed like it was going to stall at any moment. I contacted Volvo directly and they called it "limp home mode" and that's exactly what it was, horrable!!. I consider myself lucky that my children were not with me. Apparently Volvo recognizes the problem but are no longer fixing this ongoing problem. Volvo estimated that the fix would be on the low end $900. 00 up to about $1400. 00. Volvo is not taking anymore responsibility and now it's up to the consumer to absorb the cost.

27 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 12/15/2011

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Volvo V70. While parked, the contact noticed that the check engine warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The technician recommended updating the software. The software was updated however afterward, the check engine warning light illuminated intermittently. Additionally, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the control electronics module would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but to no avail. The contact informed the dealer that there was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number: 07v226000 (engine and engine cooling) that could have been related to the failure. The dealer advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The technician then replaced the fuel pressure sensor. The failure was remedied. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Kmj.

28 Other Fuel System problem of the 2000 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 03/13/2011

Check engine light is on service light is on throttle position sensor and oxygen sensor defects, troubleshooting codes: p1171,p1132,p0141.

29 Other Fuel System problem of the 1999 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 12/02/2009

I recently purchased a 1999 Volvo V70xc, shortly after, the car went into what's called limp home mode. I looked online to see what would cause this and saw that there was a recall in 2006 to repair this problem. I called Volvo to see if my car was brought in for service, I was informed that it was repaired. I brought my car to a repair shop and was told that it needed a throttle module, the same reason for the recall in 2006. The module was replaced and new software installed and now the card runs good. Should I have to pay for a new module, $900 since this was supposed to be fixed on the initial recall?.

30 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 04/07/2009

There is or was no failure or crash , but what it sounds like there might be one on the recall of my Volvo V70 station wagon 2002 because of a possible malfunctioning software in the electronic throttle system . The recall notice came from Volvo cars of north America, llc. I need some more information on this to see just how urgent and serious I should take priority to get my car in to see a Volvo service center to get it fixed, because this could be just a way of getting a one half hour labor charge out of people if my car does not contain the recall problem.

31 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 09/29/2008

On/off check engine light warning on my V70 Volvo 2004. I had 1 incident of stalling without any warning. Luckily it was night time and no accident occured. I had it diagnosed at local Volvo dealership service department and it turned to be faulty fuel pressure sensor. I did my research over the web and there was a voluntary recall made by Volvo dated 25may of 2007. I fall on every category but when I went to the dealership with this information, I was told that my car is not on any recall list. It's not free for me to have it fix which I believed contradictory to the recall memo.

32 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 08/15/2005

My car had a sudden lack of power and in some turns would stall. These would cause a dangerous situation in traffic. I took the car to the dealer and they had the electronic throttle module and throttle body had to be replaced. This is very expensive and should not occur.

33 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 03/15/2005

The car was shaking when started. It also had a horribly loud noise. I called to have it towed to the Volvo dealership but they were closed so I had it towed to the local mechanic in my town. He checked the system and said the throttle was defective and that I should have this done by warranty from the Volvo dealership. When I called the Volvo dealership in santa rosa, CA. They said that it could be caused by a dirty throttle and I should have the car checked first to make sure this was not the case. My mechanic checked this and it cost me $129. 35 for him to trouble shoot the situation to make sure this was a warranty issue. He then called the Volvo dealership and spoke to alex in service and told him that the problem was the throttle defect. The car was then towed to the dealership/service department. They checked it and said a part in the throttle was defective. They replaced that part and then had to replace the entire etm system. They had problems downloading the new software but finally were able to get it to run. They gave me a loaner car but wouldn't pay for my charges to have the problem diagnosed. ($129. 00). I would have had it taken to them in the first place but they were closed. This was very frightening! it took 5 days to repair the vehicle.

34 Other Fuel System problem of the 1999 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 09/07/2004

I had my trottle unit, pcv system replaced twice on my 1999 Volvo V70, once under warranty and again 35000 miles later at my expense ($1041. 91). I have subsequently learned that this is a pervasive problem with these model Volvo cars from years 1999 through 2001. An article in the las angelos times dated may 3, 2005 states that between 21 and 94% of these units fail within the first 100,000 miles. Volvo na refuces to recall these units apparently, according to the article, replacing some units under a silent extended warranty program. I am requesting your organization to investigate this matter and, if found that the majority of these units fail within the time period specified, you mandate that Volvo na recall these units. As such, those of us who have already paid to have them replaced can receive a full refund for the repair.

35 Other Fuel System problem of the 1999 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 07/22/2004

This complaint is regarding 2 faulty throttle modules (etm) that have been replaced by Volvo dealerships for my 1999 Volvo V70 xc. The first/original etm was replaced under warranty with 58,635 miles on 22 may 03. 14 months and 12,474 miles later, that etm failed and I had to replace it at my cost. Symptoms included irregular and erratic acceleration and deceleration of the car at highway speeds with the acceleration pedal pressed, but steady. It should also be noted that the two etm's that were installed were both model# 8644347. This shows evidence that Volvo is only replacing a failed defective etm with a new defective etm. I urge the NHTSA to look into this matter for the safety of Volvo drivers who might get into a future accident due to this defective part. Thank you.
