1 Suspension problem of the 1998 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 05/12/2014

I just purchased about 2 months ago a 1998 Volvo V70 used on 4/3/2014 for 3000. 00 . The vehicle drove just fine up until two weeks ago where the transmission seems to be slipping. While I was riding on i695 and was going about sixty miles per hour when the car jerked and cut off, meaning blinking in and out of the electrical system along with the engine as I was pulling over on the shoulder, which is terribly unsafe. I assumed and thought Volvo's were great on miles and transmission so I didn't expect it to be having these type of issues. I am a first time Volvo purchaser and highly disappointed and it's to expensive for all the hassles. All of the minor issues were expected because of the vehicle being a used car. Also, I cannot even check the transmission fluid levels in order to see if all I need is some transmission fluid, the dipstick that leads to the transmission is stuck, as in I have tried pulling, twisting and turning but to no avail. After purchasing a 300 dollar key pad from the dealer I expect more from the manual and at least to be able to check all fluids on the vehicle. If these minor issues didn't evolve into major issues with my Volvo vehicle I would not have an issue. Yet the problem is that these minor issues are indeed causing major repairs which is simply unacceptable and causing unsafe driving hazardous situations that could indeed affect the life of myself and other drivers. Thank you very much for listen and hopefully directly addressing my concerns. 3 Suspension problem of the 2007 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 10/12/2013

Driving home from work on i93 when I head a loud bang. Pulled off the highway and could not find anything wrong. Got home with no other issues. In the morning I noticed the car leaning to the right. Went out and looked under the car and found my coil spring had snapped. No sign of impact. Car was out of warranty so had to pay for repair. Repair shop told me spring must have been defective and it failed. Hope the other spring does not let go.

5 Suspension problem of the 2001 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 06/04/2012

I own a 2001 Volvo xc and bought this car for its reliability and as a family vehicle. I use this vehicle to commute 150 miles per day for my job. Drove the car on June 3, 2012 with my son to run errands and there were no problems. The next day, June 4, 2012 I got in the car to go to work in the morning. The minute I started pulling out of the driveway I heard a noise coming from the car. I got my husband and had him look at the car since it was fine the day before. He discovered the broken spring. Luckily the spring broke overnight while it was sitting in the driveway and not while I was driving it on the highway. We have done research on this part breaking and found numerous other Volvo owners who have also had this part break.

9 Suspension problem of the 1998 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 04/18/2003

The consumer purchased her vehicle over two years ago. The steering wheel shakes and it will not hold a balance. The dealership has not been able to fix the problem, but they are currently telling her it is fixed. The steering wheel is still shaking. This problem has been occurring since purchase. Volvo of north America and the dealership are both telling her that the problem has been fixed. She replaced the tires when the vehicle was first purchased, they went bad and she's had to put on 2 more sets of tires. They recommended she use high end michelin tires and it has made no difference. A representative from Volvo has looked at the vehicle twice, once last summer and last week. Consumer states she has complained about the problem since she had a warranty and has a letter stating that if it is not the tires, they will resolve the issue under the warranty. The Volvo representative stated there was a bolt loose in the fender and the mud flap was missing and the tires were wearing unevenly. The problem only occurs at highway speeds. The mechanic did notice the vibration at 35 mph. The local Volvo dealer, a different one, did ride with the consumer and stated he did feel the vibration, but wrote on the receipt it needed a balance.

10 Suspension problem of the 1999 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 06/09/1999

The car was picked up from majestic motors Thursday 3 June 1999, within 20-30 minutes of driving the car a noise began which seemed to originate in the rear, it progressively built until it was ear shattering, the car began to vibrate from the front driver and passenger seats back, more apparent in the rear. The dealership was phoned on Monday, the saleman returned my call tues, when the problems were described to him, he indicated the rear wheels were probably out of balance and the mechanics must have overlooked the rear window vents. An appointment was scheduled for Wednesday 9 June 1999, a loaner was supplied. I returned to pick up the car at 3pm, it had not been looked at, I returned the following afternoon. I was informed they could not find a noise and/or vibration, a mechanic standing at the desk offered to take go for a road test. W/in minutes of exiting the parking lot, the noise began, progressively escalating as well as the vibration. The mechanic informed me this was a common complaint from numerous of their customers and despite repeated attempts to remedy the situations they had been informed by Volvo headquarters that it was a design/engineering flaw and not repairable. This was reiterated by the salesman, tom from Volvo customer service, mr. Bill alpro vice president & service dept manager, and ms. Susan campbell of Volvo customer service.
