I have a windshield problem: the seal that secures the windshield to the roof of the car has failed along the entire length of the top of the windshield. This was found during troubleshooting a leak problem -- water was entering the car when it rained, leaking from the rear-view mirror and the light above it (note - my V70 wagon does * have a sunroof). Upon inspection by an auto glass technician, the windshield easily lifted away from the car when it was pushed from inside the cabin. The technician told me that this is a major safety problem. Without a proper seal on the windshield, the entire structural design safety of the car is compromised. If the car was in an accident, especially a front-end collision, the windshield would not absorb any of the impact as it was designed to, resulting in greater damage to the vehicle and making it unsafe. I was advised not to operate the vehicle until it was repaired. I looked at some online Volvo forums and noted that other Volvo owners have had this problem. The technician also stated that he has noticed this problem on other Volvo vehicles, and was replacing about 2 or 3 a month. He believes it is a manufacturing defect and that Volvo should issue a recall to correct this problem.

I leased a 2001 Volvo V70 wagon on 9/27/00. I immediately noticed that there was a severe amount of reflection from top of dashboard onto the inside of the windshield. Reflection is positioned high up on the windshield in the area were the driver would normally look out of the car. When direct sunlight is on the dashboard top, the reflection in the windshield is so great that it makes it very difficult to see through the windshield. Even in lower light situations (as with nighttime street lighting and overcast days), the reflection pops up and is distracting to the driver. It appears that the reflection is due to the rake of the windshield and the angle of the dashboard top. I brought this to the attention of the Volvo dealer and they in turn notified the Volvo representative. The response was "condition normal to all 01 models". I note that the dealer's service dept indicated that other owners had also complained of this problem. I am 53 and have driven and owned many cars, but have never experienced this type of safety impairment in any other car. To find out if I was alone in my perception, I posted a note on edmunds. Com and within several hours I received the following response: "yep, I'm sure everyone has this problem. " the amazing thing about this reflection is that it appears to exist in the full line of Volvo's new models. My guess is that over time there will be numerous accidents related to the driver's inability to focus through the reflection or due to the distraction caused by it popping up in changing light situations such as transitions driving from shade to sunlight on a tree lined street. For my part, although it will be a significant financial loss, I am going to dispose of the car as soon as possible because I believe it is unsafe to drive. I know this sound almost impossible that a company such as Volvo could produce a car with this defect, but sit in one when there is light shining on the dash top and you will understand.

Design of dashboard and windshield is of such an angle that consumer cannot see on a bright day. Glare is bad enough, and she does not feel safe driving. Contacted Volvo who offered no assistance. Consumer feels if the dashboard were a darker color, the glare would not be there.
Problems with windshield and headlights. The windshield presented a glare while the vehicle was in motion, at night, the low beam setting resulted in insufficient light protection, and the high beam had limited use.
6 inch crack in the center of windshield from top then proceeding to the drivers' side about 12 inches. I wasn't aware that anything had even hit the windshield until the serviceman at the dealership pointed it out. Even then it was hard to see the mark he was showing me because the mark is about the size of a pinpoint and it is all surface like a scratch. My concern is the safety of the windshield that was installed originally on this car. Something so minute should not have caused such a crack if this windshield wasn't defective or improperly installed to start with. This is advertised as an all-terrain vehicle-I've only driven on asphalt and concrete roads! obviously, there is something wrong here. Volvo hasn't even tried to alleviate any of my safety concerns regarding this windshield. I question the installation & the grade of windshield used for this type of vehicle. This should not have happened so easily. This does not happen so easily on any other vehicle. Why did it happen on this one if the windshield wasn't defective or improperly installed?? am I going to have to worry when that first snowflake hits the windshield?? I need some answers! thank you for your assistance.
On sunny days the windshield would give off reflections so bright that the driver was unable to see out the windshield. Dealer replaced the entire windshield.
